Torghast concept is good, design is poor

Let me preface this with I think that solo content that’s challenging is good and healthy for the game but the way they made torghast “challenging” is not good.

Currently there are basically no hard mechanics at all in torghast. The difficulty comes from knowing what you can and can’t pull which is fine, however the part that’s not fine is how bosses just become dps races. It’s not fun nor is it challenging me. All it’s telling is “hey dude you didn’t get x power so your damage is bad and/or your alt’s ilvl is too low!!” Currently pretty much everything is gated behind torghast so when it’s literally impossible for me to beat the final boss because I didn’t get the trait that increases my paladin’s wings by 60% and I havent gotten any good loot drops from the past 2 world bosses or from dungeons the game doesn’t feel challenging or fun it feels like I dropped hours of work onto a character just to get screwed over by a ramping damage buff that also causes them to be immune to cc. Did no one bring this up on beta or was dungeon loot ACTUALLY dropping on beta so ilvl wasnt an issue?

I agree, I love the idea behind Torghast, but don’t like the execution.

If I were to make a few changes, I’d:

1.) Revert the HP and damage boost buffs Blizz has done the past few weeks.
2.) Add some more ‘wacky’ anima powers
3.) Add a currency that drops from mobs where you can purchase cosmetic rewards (toys, pets, mounts, etc)
4.) Diversify the mobs on each floor. It gets boring fighting the same mob groups over and over and over again.

where are the whiteknights?

The buffing the floor bosses was a bad idea… I suppose it did help as an indicator to say ‘good luck with the layer boss…’ I had one where I lost the dps race and i even started with the 1.5min invul power.

should add the anti-afk mobs can be burned … they serve no purpose other than to annoy…

Maybe what would help… is ilvl requirements listed… I don’t want to spend over an hour to get to the layer boss only to fail the gear check.

Pretty much how it went for me. I did all the floor bosses easily with no deaths even pulled a ton of enemies for the most part made it to the floor boss and used my cds by the time hes at like ~20% health he has like a 200% damage increase can’t hoj or blind his casts that do 80% of my health bar get him to 10% with bubble then he one shots me after it wears off. The dps race feels AWFUL when you’re not absurdly geared out and playing healer especially because the buff goes up by 1 every 7 seconds or so and the damage increase is absurd. A boss should not ramp up to like 3x damage before my wings even come off cooldown again.

The whole system just makes me anxious soul ash is hard gated per week with no catchup mechanic so whenever I don’t feel like rnging my way through multiple layers by the end of the week I feel like I’m wasting my time and making myself considerably weaker than everyone else who got gear drops.

Strongly disagree, Torghast is one of the most requested features in the Shadowlands expansion from the beta. Players enjoyed being challenged, and Ion and the Dev team paid very close attention this time around to carefully balance this game mode around both the casual and hardcore player. It seems that players who are unable to complete the highest layers either lack the skill or gear, and so they created the lower layers for these players to do for a bulk of the dust. If a system caters to both types of players, then it’s fair and balanced. The system is working as intended, what’s the issue?

Tupac, Torghast was loved by us beta testers because it was tuned in such a way that allowed you to pick most anima powers and still be okay throughout the run. Then Blizzard came along a week or 2 before the xpac dropped and re-tuned everything to make it a slogfest and downright unfun for some classes (looking at you, rogues and mages). What we were shown in beta is not the torghast that was released.

If I wanted to play a roguelike, I’d have played a roguelike. Torghass was a big negative for keeping me playing.

Did you even read the post? The issue is that the ramping damage on layer bosses especially after the recent health buffs isn’t fun nor challenging it’s tedious because if I don’t get a good anima power for dps the probability that the floor boss ramps it’s damage through the roof and does 90% of my health to 100% is extremely high.

Read. The. Post.

No one ever said torghast was bad and should be deleted, but the gear/power-up checks by bosses creates gameplay that’s decided by random factors which isn’t fun. Create mechanics that if I’m good I can avoid and still beat the boss through not something that’s “oh you didn’t kill the boss in a minute and 30 seconds so now he one shots you!”

Yeah people complained about clearing the floors so easily and not being able to kill the boss. So blizz in their infinite wisdom decided to buff everything else and leave the bosses as is. The fix no one asked for lol.

 PREACH! Tupac shut the **** up, do that challenge. Your nose so brown you looking like Rudolph if he dipped his nose in chocolate.

and also Tupac’s reference that it was loved in beta has been repeated over and over, but they weren’t testing the release candidate that is for sure… Torg was gutted and ramped up between pre-patch and release.

This killed any and all fun torghast was. There is reason for them. It does not matter if I finish in 10 min or 10 hours, I get the exact same reward

As stated before, Torghast is perfectly balanced to appeal to both hardcore and causal audiences! If players are again finding the challenge of mobs being too difficult, it often has to do with a lack of skill or gear. These players have the option to do lower layers for relatively no challenge, and for most of the dust. The system is designed this way to help every type of player achieve their goals. A wide majority of players enjoy the challenge, and have asked for the difficulty increase and players are completing Layer 7+ with ease!

I think it’s fine on mage, but I’m also pretty geared. We just need to become immortal via barrier and HP pool buffs now, increased epic anima power drop rate helps by making Triune more likely to appear. The new Seeker’s Scroll also makes our power gain more consistent throughout a run. The only really nasty thing is that Imperial Consular floor boss, but that’s been mentioned as overtuned elsewhere.

So the mount that torghast gives is only for harcore players? I don’t think so, everyone wants one.

perfectly balanced? lol

no it isn’t or we would all be in perfect bliss singing its praises and not posting on the forum lol

A mount is a luxury item, many players are fine in the Maw and most have even reported they don’t mind not having a mount due to the theme and lore behind the zone! The folks who want to challenge themselves go above and beyond and their effort is rewarded with a mount, but not everyone is forced to do this or has to do this. This system rewards effort put into the game, and folks who are going above and beyond will be rewarded for their effort over those who don’t!

Don’t bother, OP. As he so kindly said himself in another thread:

Except, really, he was talking about himself.

Folks need to understand that WoW has more subscribers than WotLk at this point and the max amount of posts on GD is maybe about 5,000 people. This does not represent the state of the game or a majority of the audience, most of the players playing the game have reported back with praises for Torghast and how well Ion and the dev team have balanced it.

please tell me and provide proof that it is perfectly balanced? it isn’t even what was beta tested…

and where are the reports that most of the players think Torg is perfect and fun?
