Need some help if you would be so kind. Most of you who know me, already know my limitations, so I guess the best way to ask for help is just to tell you I’m 72 with memory issues.
First, I would like to install tooltips, but I am wondering if it’s the right thing to do. I would use it for auctions and the adventure table and any suggestions you may have which I have not considered.
Ol Jonãs and I play solo, never get into a dungeon or raid unless my limitations are known beforehand and without going into too much detail, the game for me is an adventure and the quests are as real as I can make them.
Although I do (now) know how to play the game and its logic and mechanics, if you were to advise me, I would appreciate it if you could consider me clueless as far as tooltips go. I am clueless about many things, but that should get anyone who is interested in helping me out - get started.
Can we clarify what it is you’re trying to do? ‘Tooltips’ are the little windows that pop up when you hover over an icon (for an item, a skill, etc.) that contain information about the item. There’s no need to install these tooltips; they come with the game.
Was it a third-party addon you were interested in installing? I searched for one just called ‘tooltips’ and didn’t find anything. There are dozens of addons that enhance or change tooltips… but I am not sure that’s what you want, since you reference the Auction House and Adventure table; I am not sure how changing your tooltips would help with those.
If you give us a bit more info we can probably get you pointed in the right direction.
Thanks for the lightning-fast reply. When I went to “Tooltips’” site, they referenced loading the game onto my own site. I wasn’t looking for that, and I went to our “Macro” section and found an icon ready and waiting for me (I think it’s called "extra action), so I gave it a name and located it on my action bar. “So far, so good”, I thought to myself.
However, clicking on that icon didn’t bring up anything, so that’s when I realized I may not be “getting” what a tooltip is supposed to do for us and decided to bring my question here.
Something else which may further “define” my situation, Breakbeat: I believe the new updated “Auctionator” wants us to have tooltips installed as a prerequisite for that add-on to work.
So to answer your question, no: I wasn’t looking for a third party add-on. Just a way to get some information on things I may not have uploaded onto my brain.
I hope I have helped you a little more so that you can help me.
I truly appreciate your taking the time to help me out.
As Breakbeat noted, tooltips are not something you install. They’re a UI element already included with the game. Whenever you mouse over something in-game, the small window that pops up with details is called a tooltip.
Looking over the Auctionator page, I don’t see any requirements for anything called tooltips.
In their description, tooltips are mentioned a couple of time:
Auction prices in your item tooltips so you can quickly see how valuable the item is that you just picked up
Tooltip prices
Auction and vendor prices are shown in item tooltips. Disenchant information is available for WoD, Legion, BfA and Shadowlands
All this means is that when you mouse over an item in your inventory, Auction and Vendor prices will now be included in the tooltip that already exist for the item.
As an example - If you have a Sword that gives you +5 Strength, the tooltip might look like this:
SWORD OF STRENGTH
+5 Str
With the Auctionator addon, the tooltip would be updated to look like this:
Tool tips are a basic game feature however additional information may be displayed in tool tips by other Addons - like Auctioneer.
Other Addons can use the tooltip for things like displaying if you have already learned the look of a piece of gear for transmogs, displaying how many of an item each of your other characters has, what has dropped from a particular type of NPC and your drop rate for it. Etc.
Thanks, EVERYONE for the help. I guess I had that feature all along and didn’t realize it, or I turned it off a long time ago (when I still had a memory) and have forgotten how to turn it back on.
Where and how does one do that - and yes, I know: I’m dumb as a bag of hammers.
