So remember, when you think people like me who have over 50 max level characters must be insane or play too much, a lot of us level alts at evens like this. I leave characters until right before a new expansion and then finish them to the max level, and next expansion repeat.
So when you get jealous about alts having some advantage or something, they’re very easy to get and maintain, you just have to work smarter not harder. My alt army started at 2 max level in wrath, 8 in cata, 14 in mists, and just kept building to be the army it is today. And I just never delete characters, and make new ones only when we get more character slots.
Leveling alts isn’t hard, if you’re patient and wait for events to do it. No way would I have all my alts if it wasn’t for catch up events like this.

Leveling now-a-days is nothing compared to the original mmo days. I’d be lucky to get 4-6 bubbles in a day of exp in EQ 1 near end level… And that’s if you survived, and could get your corpse back if not! /drag

Death XP loss wasn’t as big as people made it out to be, typically any place that was populated with grind groups had ample amounts of people who could res or corpse summon.
Remix took 3 hours to go from 10-70.

I thought they super, duper nerfed the XP required to level to 70 with the pre-patch. Is it that the event actually gives really good XP compared to questing in the regular world, or does it just seem like the event is a great leveling event because people flock to events like this and it’s just coinciding with that massive XP nerf?

My level 60 chars are getting like 3.5 levels per event, though admittedly they have rest xp.
Leveling is fairly trivial these days. The only reason I have so many below-max level characters is because I’m not trying to level them. I am trying to get Loremaster with them.

52 max level alts here, and counting

I went from 60-70 in about 25 minutes. Sadly, less gear is dropping now. But that’s fine. The amount of currency I’m getting means I can just buy it all.
I leveled 63-70 while leveling my profession in Valdrakken with a little resource harvesting on the side.

Good.
Leveling has never been a strength of WOW… if it’s not going to be good or fun, at least be fast and thank you blizz for making it fast.
Never? Leveling was fun back in Vanilla, TBC, WOTLK.
Even SoD leveling was fun and Remix was pretty decent too.
Heck…I’d say the leveling/story is one of the most fun parts of any expansion. At least the first time through.

Leveling was most certainly not fun in vanilla.
I remember… very not fondly… running out of quests because there weren’t enough of them (taking all quests, following them wherever they led), and having to kill surplus mobs to make up the difference. That’s why they revamped some of those early zones to smooth out quest progression.
I remember running out of quests of my level in Loch Modan and have to travel down to Westfall to start totally different quest chains. Not what I would expect as a dwarf or gnome – I would expect to continue to follow the quest chains I started with. Also probably not what the average, complete stranger to the game or to MMO’s would think to do.
And yes, I know you could run dungeons, but that wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, even once they were more experienced with the game.

You don’t even need to wait for events like this, really. Leveling is quick enough as it is. You can get an alt to cap just spamming timerunning dungeons in one gaming session if you really wanted to. It’s even quicker if you play a tank/healing role.
For you maybe and I’m glad you enjoyed it… I’ve never found it fun, especially in Vanilla… grindy and just boring to me.
The first time usually isn’t that bad, but I still just want to hit max level and never worry about leveling again until I find an alt.
I don’t mind leveling and enjoy it honestly, I just don’t find WOW’s leveling process to be fun.
Nowadays, leveling isn’t the chore.
Getting caught up once maxed is. Professions… reps for recipes… gear… oy vey.
The reps part will be alleviated with warbands, but the profession changes they made with DF have made it an even worse grind than ever before. Almost no recipes to get you to 100 that didn’t require sparks, extremely expensive mats, daily cooldowns, etc. The expectation, presumably (and definitely what wowhead guides were instructing), to rely on filling crafting orders with other people’s mats/sparks. Except crafting orders are basically non-existent.
Leveling was great in Vanilla. Best its ever been and playing Classic - Wotlk Classic confirmed that.
In classic you’re in a world not playing a game, so if you want a quick tight experience you aren’t gonna enjoy it.

Curious… what do you think actually confirmed it?
Make sure to do the shorter events as well, for more xp/hour. The “memories of XYZ” are one mob kill quests, and they take like a minute for about 16k xp. I was just flying between those as they spawned and doing them to level up, 3 new 70s this way today.

“Took 45 mins to level 60-70 at the pre-patch event” What you’re probably saying is, consider each event 10 minutes or so, you played 4 events. I bet the total time you were logged in was much over 45 mins.
