Too Much AV, Not Enough WSG & AB! No Real Fights!

STRONG disagree, I am both far from the first person to state this and I can say that they did harm the game for me going past Vanilla.

I’ve been trying to figure out what changed my love of the game and them putting arenas in was a huge part of it, I didn’t like them so didn’t touch them, even for one game, because I don’t do things that are not fun, and I hate deathmatch games.

My bullet points commented on everything you said so what you stated about ME not reading is inaccurate enough that it looks like pure projection. As in, you seem to be so full of yourself that you didn’t even read them. Even the statement about the high horse is a projection as YOU think that people should bring their arrogant arena egos into threads like this. Considering that people who think like this have ruined WoW the most it’s no wonder that you don’t get it.

Anyway, I’m going to go back and reply to something else that is actually related to this topic.

You’re right. I tend not to pay much attention to self righteous claims based on nothing. You don’t like arena. Good for you. They should put that on your tombstone.

What game do you play primarily. Wrath or classic

I’ve stayed out of most of the arena discussions in for example the TBCC and Wrath C forums. Why? Because I’m totally ok with people liking different things. Those games did have arenas and so I am happy for the people who enjoy them there. I’ve also posted in threads agreeing with RBGs being added in a way worded to intentionally not attack arena players.

I also enjoy understanding others perspectives and likes. I simply do not agree with dragging arena rating into threads lIke this over and over because it’s irrelevant and generally unprompted.

I have yet to figure out how arenas fit in with a faction-based MMO called “World of Warcraft”. The battlegrounds do fit.

It’s good to know that you won’t try to understand others if their thoughts don’t align with yours. Noted. I won’t bother to try with you again. Thanks for confirming the projection.

Considering I’ve been so open to what the Era meta could be I don’t know what you “told me”. Is this another avatar of the priest maybe? People swap their forum avatars like underwear and don’t bother to tell anyone.

Sure, because too many people play for efficiency, not fun. The thing is that your ways to break the meta are off.

It doesn’t really take this:

It takes one side not queuing AV enough to where the other has massive queues, or constant games that reduce the HPH to where people find the other BGs more efficient. It’s happened before even with both classic and SoM. If it happens here should I come back and say I told you so?

My legit suggestion to players who hate the AV meta is to go into AV with queue syncing premades. Take everything so the other side gets zero honor. Hold the cave and just farm for a while until going next. Do that over and over, until the meta changes.

That’s what people who aren’t happy will wait for.

I’m kind of leaning towards arenas for PvP, so Wrath Classic or Retail, and HC Era for the leveling game.

Idk, I’m in a weird spot now, where my interest is split, and it might be getting close to time to take a WoW break for a while…

I saw this just posted in another thread that I didn’t touch and I figured I’d share since you seem to believe I’m the only one with the opinions I have on arenas in WoW. Although I have no doubt you’ll be too lazy to even read it:

Arena rewards meta slaving and cascadint CC to prevent one or more of your opponents from playing the game. Period. 99.9% of meta comps can be automated by addons and weakauras. They literally tell you what to push and when.

Please do not act like its somehow a pinnacle of performance.

Ill take a 2400 rated SS player over a 2400 3s player 100 times out of 100 because the SS player isnt 100% reliant on always playing with the same tools available every fight. He knows how to work with what he gets via RNG. The 3s player has the majority of his gameplay automated or dictated to him through massive flashing UI elements.

Why is it always

Hmm, interesting.

The problem with the entire system is basically quality interaction with the other team reduces rewards. Protracted and strategic play over objectives gain you less rewards. You are incentivized to do whatever you do quickly above all else. Better to lose fast than win slow.

IMO. First off I’d say don’t change things its Era but since that’s out the window. The bg’s need to reward in a way that encourages both sides to continue to try to win. What that looks like i dont know.

Edit that wasn’t directed at you, I just clicked the wrong reply button.

That’s OK that you replied to me. I agree with your point.

There are a decent number of players who love “Vanilla” PVP/BGs for the competitive nature that it can offer when played right. Changes that accommodate this part of the player base, who really do love THIS version of the game, in Classic + or in future seasons, I am all for.

Yeah, its a hard thing to fix.

With RBG good High ranked teams don’t take risks; making the game play VERY boring, and bad High ranked teams cheat by either dodging, sniping, or literally cheating via win trading, hacking (fly hacking) DDoS, Rotation and coordinated CC botting (old honor buddy), and various other things.

You see the same problem with arena too, its just a smaller scale, but those are always problems associated with rated systems.

How to fix it??

Gear that is competitive and easy to get, that is not gated behind BS, but does take effort is good… The present system isn’t perfect, but its annoyingly better than rated because there is so little cheating.

If I were doing the design for the PvP system it would be similar to what exists now with some minor tweaks.

Assuming a fresh server here.

  1. Decay would not be a thing at all.
  2. Ranks 1 - 10 would open up 4 weeks after server launch.
  3. Honor cap would be set to 300K
  4. R1 PvP trinket at R1 (and tabard)
  5. R2 (Level 65 Blue item level) Belt, Bracers, Ring
  6. R3 Race Faction tabard (example UD would have its own unique)
  7. R4 Boots and Gloves (Blue set)
  8. R5 Chest and Pants (Blue set)
  9. R6 Banner and Tabard
  10. R7 Helm and Shoulders (Blue set)
  11. R8 First Tier epic iLvl 64 PvP weapons that mirror the R14 Weapons
  12. R9 Existing epic pvp mounts
  13. R10 Epic Neck, comparable to DMF necks.
  14. When BWL opens R11 - 14 unlock.
  15. R11 Epic quality Belt, Bracers, Ring.
  16. R12 (present day PvP R14 Weapons)
  17. R13 Epic PvP Set Boots, Gloves, Legs
  18. R14 Epic PvP Set Chest, Helm, Shoulders

The reason for shifting the loot distribution is to bolster participation, and the reason for unlocking R11+ later with BWL is so that gear is fairly evenly matched across the board for content going forward, this make PvP an option and keeps it fun while not making it so sweaty and required like classic 2019.

They tried this already. It was Rated Battlegrounds.

Turns out the people that want to group up and coordinate and minmax Classic PvP content… dont want to face other people that group up, coordinate and minmax Classic PvP content.

That’s actually exactly what me and my “group” and demographic want to do.

Is it the majority? Likely not.

But RBGs in retail are an entirely different genre than classic.

Comparing the two doesn’t work out. At all. It’s like comparing arenas to classic anything

AV is the best BG and I’ve been having nothing but real fights

I'd be amazed if it made a considerable difference. People in general are just lazy pvprs. You can afk AV and get away with it while watching movies on your second monitor. Pretty efficient when it comes to effort.

Real fights as in spamming blizzard at each other nobody moving forward hiding behind everyone else, pushing each other back and forth with blizzards and hunter shots?

actually, now it’s just a base race

RIP classic wow. Had a good run.

It was never a legitimate premise to begin with.

alright i take that back

not always a base race
