I’m worried while spamming AV all day that when I do finally reach rank 14, the games I will want to play, wsg and ab, won’t ever be popping because of the meta. Woe.

AB is the best bg and it’s not even close.
AB is the worst bg out there. Thankfully the real pvp happens in hillsbrad foothills at the farm fields
Speaking as a very casual pvper, not a good one, and someone who solo queue’s cause i like to take breaks regularly, AV is the BG that offers the best experiences. Solo Queueing AB is running into the same premade 6 games in a row and stopping, cause you see there is only 1 game happening. WSG is fun but being the only healer most games means naxx/aq warriors can just pop me.
I get the idea of wanting to premade into a premade for intense battles, and see how that can be super fun. But you just get cannibalised as a solo player until you stop queueing.
To add, the only AV games I afk out of are when we’re getting cave camped by premade squads. More than happy to throw myself at a losing turtle, even spam recalling to dun baldar to fear and SW:P while people pull the boss adds. You need to give the solo player a feeling they’re at least doing something, playing the game a little, or we stop playing. Like in AB.
Edited to add: To address Mootwo’s comment specifically about ‘how to change the meta’, there’s a good chance it just stops PvP participation from more casual players, like it was in the past.
Is era really limited to just AV spam and a token wsg/AB?
Gotta say, having just resubbed after months away for the honor system changes, that would be a pretty immense let down, particularly if the non AV bgs are basically just premades 24/7 … how boring…
So yeah, someone be a bro and toss me the instance counts for all 3 bgs during prime time today please… Makes a sizable difference into whether I keep bother leveling up even one of my 3 current toons, let alone all of them…
I agree on this post for the most part. I would like to see a test done where they remove premades queuing against solo queues, fix the terrain issues, and keep all profs and consumable items out of the game. I personally would play other ones absolutely. The game has no mmr system is by far the biggest problem.
People used to when wow released play the hell out of bgs leveling. Once twinking got a foothold it literally killed it. They gave twinks their own queue system and guess what twinks disappeared after a period of time and low level queues picked back up again. CLassic had the exact same problem when twinks were allowed in game again. I just don’t understand why people don’t see these adherent problems, refuse to acknowledgement them objectively, but come to forums wondering why pvp is the way it is.
Server wide brackets are gone meaning players will either want to afk to 14 while watching movies and doing nothing or pla the game making high hph.
If majority of era players are showing their colors as afk pve andies who don’t pvp then yea it’s only gonna be AV and people who want to pvp should wait till fresh

To use an anecdotal experience here, my parents like to try new games on GamePass, one weekend there was a 3-day free play for a shooter with full loot pvp. One of the game veterans spent the entire weekend camping the start area killing new players as soon as they got out of the safe area.
Players will destroy their own games’ future for 3 days of fun, then wonder why the game dies off. Not only PvP players either, but that’s another rant for another time.
Being real I have like 1k or even 2k posts going over why PVP is the way it is and my thoughts on it, often in a way too long way. It’s one of those topics that I’ll go on about all day.
Sometimes I just don’t agree with others on the reasoning for things, or with how things should be done on Blizzards end.
I did mention in one of my posts about how to change the AV meta, because I’ve watched the AV meta shift in Classic and SoM and even Vanilla, but what I said won’t happen. At this point anyway. So no worries for the AV fans, or the “watch movies to R14” fans.
Ya I wanted to wait a week or two after the new patch to see how things would play out
Looks like PvP is dead. There is no fun to be had in AV. Other BGs are premades.

Spot on. I don’t mind AV, albeit, the meta of just run to boss is lame i do enjoy tower defending. Premades i extremely dislike in a no mmr system as it leads to quite unfair games often. I get people like premading and i don’t necessarily mind it myself, but, you have to take into account people are at a disadvantage a very high percent of the time with no mmr system. If there was a MMR system i’d be fine with them and remove anything out of bgs that is engineering pots stuff like that. Problem i always see is people defending this play when it really doesnt exist that i know of in most other games. People like to start off on the same foot leaving skill and instance knowledge to compete. I don’t mean these jumps ect in wsg either. Some call it flavor, but in reality, they are a considerable advantage when most players don’t know them. I hear pvprs say well it becomes predictive where u can go then, i say well its pretty predictive will they will go when its there also. The middle ground is remove them so it levels the field in general. It’s been said many times people don’t like this, heavy pvprs say to bad, then complain when the bg isnt popular when people have repeatedly said why for years /shrug.

Then why complain about the way the game is now? Even when classic was released the same problem existed and had ill effects. People didnt want to play it then and didnt. So much premades were win trading in other bgs. Not all but a few did. I merely stated problems that people have complained about and reasons why they don’t queue those bgs which has existed since before original tbc launch. People are just getting much less tolerant of it. I say try it and see what happens. If it doesnt solve anything then put it back. Fair? Im just giving suggestions as to why people jsut dont run them based on years of echoeing.
Using items that are craftable in game with their sole purpose to be used is a problem?
This is new to me. If that’s a problem I believe that’s a personal opinion. If I use a FAP, that’s an item put in game to be used.

Lol all you want, but, then deal with the reprocussions is all i’m saying. It was the same as twinks in bgs and look what that did. Destroyed leveling side adventures to the point twinks were the only ones left. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a compounding affect. Point in case. IDC if people use eng pots w/e in wsg or ab, i just don’t bother playing them when its premades every time you turn around spamming this stuff. Not all but it’s enough and even in pugs there are players like this and people just get / got sick of it. Again, im merely suggesting possible reasons why these bgs haven’t been inherently popular when they are supposed to give more hph, which imo is only for premades and not pugs. Hence why AV is always more popular a fair share of the time.
Repercussions is semantics.
Pve people who aren’t pvp oriented aren’t the crowd to spam BGs for hours and hours for fun IF that are not ranking. The pvp crowd will do that.
So the repercussions you speak of are gone once those players get the rep they want or the rank they want. Watch, the games open for av will get smaller as time goes on and shift back

I agree on that. So i’m confused at what the problem is then? The topic is about to much AV but it will exist, like you said, til they are done. Assuming this is the case, then wsg and ab should be fine after??? Or is the problem that they wont do wsg or ab now to get farmed by what i said prior and they know it and why they run AV? It just seems people are upset that those people are not running ab and wsg now when they obviously have no interest in it and if they do after i don’t see what the problem people are having is?

The problem too is that premades are kind of a self defeating proposition…
The entire purpose of premades in vanilla is to accrue better honor/hour… which you ideally get by pubstomping people who have little to no capability of fighting back until honor capped (which admittedly is low enough now that possibly by the end of the week you’d see people more pvping for pure fun, rather than hph)…
The problem with the above is that the vast overwhelming majority of bg people are casuals. It simply isn’t fun for a casual to jump into a wsg or ab and get relentlessly curbstomped by premades constantly… Even premades LARGELY don’t want to bother with other premades (yours apparently being an exception)…but people also aren’t going to keep queuing into a brick wall of premades all day if they’re solo, so they’ll migrate to AV…which means less people solo queuing wsg, which means less hph for the premades… and even more premades for those that do queu it solo…which causes more to quit and etc…
It isn’t just a problem with Classic - era tbh… I’ve done more BGs in the 20 years this game has been out than most of the people in this thread combined… and if anything the problem was worse in retail (up until mid BfA at least when I stopped retail), and much worse in Wrath Classic (which I quit in April). Casual players are largely turning their backs on pvp and the lack of casuals building the base of the pvp pyramid has a pretty disastrous effect on the entire system.
HpH is one factor, and maybe adjusting the values of wsg and AB will incentivize people to swap off of av, but the real issue is that people in general just aren’t pvping more, and that’s what needs addressing more than anything, whatever form it takes… Raising honor values for ab or wsg might get them to swap off AV, but I don’t think it’s going to bring new players into the fight.
