Too many abilities and debuffs/buffs

do you think blizz will ever prune the classes so that there isnt so many abilities per class/spec and debuffs and all that?

i was trying to teach my friend how to play and they gave up after 4 days saying there is way too much going on.

after that i had them try classic and they said it was much better. so after thinking about what he was saying to me on why retail wasnt for him it all kinda made sense on how many addons and all the abilities being overwhelming to new ppl that it makes sense why there isnt as many new retail players coming into this game.

People complained in Legion and BFA that the game was too easy, so they made it harder.

I just want combat slowed down a bit and the graphical bonanza decluttered.

I mean classes like dh are already pretty pruned, but for a lot of specs we deeply need it.

I don’t want to see things GONE, I want more passives and stuff backed into other spells.

Maybe consolidate some mini buff/debuff and offensive/defensive/mobility cooldowns, but overall I’d rather not see much of a prune. Classes are pretty fun to play, and I think it’s ok to have a learning curve that people grow into that takes more than playing a few hours.

i think for this game to retain new players they need less clickable abilities and buffs. playing wow at max level looks like a screen mess. they should be able to fit every classes abilities into 6-8 buttons max and the rest can be passives. anymore than that and you are just throwing abilities in just to have more buttons.

I think we might see a lot of the talents that add new abilities start to become choice nodes were the choice is the new ability or a passive that buffs existing abilities.

I don’t think they will ever get rid of tracking hots, dots, resources, and buffs, etc. The game has long since moved from rotation to a priority list as much as that sucks. I always suggest some of the easier specs for new players like BM hunter, where you can use a WA to track the dot and yell at you to refresh it and outside of that you can hit what you want as its mostly use your CD’s as fast as possible.

For things like trinkets I doubt it they seem inclined to make the most difficult to use trinkets be BiS while the stat sticks or passive trinkets are often A rating at best.

Personally I would like to see the classes become easier (or at least give the choice) and keep fights as they are where you can choose the difficulty.

Any new game I get into - I feel the same way. That’s just how games are. Pretending this is some “wow problem” that needs to be fixed, or else isn’t being realistic. People either play and learn - or they move on. Your friend moved on.

The problem isn’t the complications - it’s that he wasn’t feeling rewarded enough during his learning journey to stick around.

If a 4 button + passives output build is as strong as a 9 button one, the 9 is a total waste of time. If not, nobody serious is taking the 4 (which will obviously trickle down until Casual Cal won’t even take it, even though he’s only doing superbloom).

The option would be nice, I agree, but the community just makes it a no-win option for blizz.

Dh has way too many debuffs, you look at your deathlog in PvP and you can’t even see more than a second of the combat because there’s 8 debuffs being applied constantly.

This is were Blizz just has to tell people to suck it up. As long as they are balanced or even just a slight win for the active ability, than it works as it should. People get to choose the difficulty.

The funny thing is people claim they want difficulty but as soon as they are given the choice without reward they refuse to take it… and than complain its to easy.

We just need to start calling these people out on it.

We should change it so everyone only has Attack, Defend, and Heal

They’ll auto cast as well, so people don’t get overwhelmed

Yeah, people should get over it, but 20 years in and they haven’t, I don’t think it’s gonna happen.

Debuffs and whatnot are fine. What’s not fine is how the default UI handles it all. Needing an addon to deal with game mechanics is lame.
