At the end of each season and patch players have plenty of gold because they aren’t changing gear and stuff out as much. So Blizz pumps the price up a bit to encourage the sale of the token since it has slowed throughout the patch’s lifespan. There is some natural supply/demand involved throughout the patch as well. Both impact the price.
Well yes and no. You buy a token for $20 from Blizzard, sell it at the AH for gold.
Someone buys it at the AH for gold and uses it to buy game time form Blizzard.
Blizzard gives someone game time and takes the $20.
It’s a three way trade. Everyone gives something and gets something.
There isn’t a no about it. Blizzard gives someone a monthly sub for an extra $5.
Why the dramatic trolling?
But it’s not an extra $5 for someone who sees that as a lot of money. It’s what every video game calls “free” for those who see $20 as a steep price because they are just playing the game for game time.
To me it seems like a good deal all around. And it’s optional. The only people paying real money are the people paying the $20 and I don’t see them complaining.
It’s not about how someone feels, we were discussing facts.
I don’t know why this was even brought up.
I don’t know, someone brought it up, asking why the price is so expensive. I’m pointing out that it’s not expensive.
If you go out to dinner and a movie anywhere around where I live it’s easily $20 for dinner and another $10 for the movie. And that’s for one night’s entertainment. To pay $20 for an alt to have gold which will last you for at least the expansion and probably more is far less expensive by comparison.
As for the person buying the ticket, they are getting gold by playing the game, buying the token in the AH and using it to buy game time.
Where does the “expensive” part come in?

I need to move where you live. That is cheap. Average meal runs me about $15 and then add in drink and that’s another $4. Include tip and that’s about another $3, just for myself. Then the movie is around $14 for a ticket, and that don’t include a drink and popcorn, (lucky I have the refill bucket and cup so that only cost another $12). So about $48 for just myself to do that.
Inflation and cost of living crisis even affects the token. There’s no escaping it.
Well we could easily spend that much around here as well depending on where we went. In fact if someone and their spouse took two kids to a game at Fenway Park your talking well in excess of $100.
But here is the question. Is $20 for a token - that will get you just about all the gold your alt will ever need - an expensive example of the company ripping us off with high prices?
Econ 101, friend. Supply and demand.
Its nearing the end of the expansion, even with Season 4 coming up I doubt they’ll go back to under 250-275k anytime soon (NA)
True, I personally have thought about buying tokens with my in-game gold but with the price set at over 300k I am not willing to give up that much gold. At the moment I would have used it to buy The War Within or maybe a year subscription.
But to put it in prospective, TWW costs $90 plus tax puts it at around $96 (yes, I know could buy basic). So, I would need to buy 7 tokens with gold which would be $140 or 2.1 million in-game gold. That would be a profit of $44 to Blizzard for a digital download (God I miss physical boxes) granted other people would have bought the game for me. Or my math could be wrong, usually is.
I wonder if people realize NA is the one that has it good?
China and EU are usually worse.

Why does blizz want to take everything else away from you?
What is blizzard taking away from us

Maybe, maybe not. They could make whatever changes behind the scene they wanted to, and we would have no way of knowing that it happened.
In fact, the idea that it’s a single simple equation based on a couple of numbers is laughable. Undoubtedly it’s a complex system that has had numerous tweaks since it was originally implemented.
We don’t know and we can’t know. That includes you. Your faith is strong, grasshopper.
Can we just ban these forum instigators already?
Fair enough and probably true. I have learned a lesson today, sensei.

based on… what?
I always buy basic. It’s all I need. But I can understand how some people, especially collectors, would want the more advanced editions.
