I purchased a token through in game shop… the transaction was complete, and token popped into my bags… but the icon didn’t fully generate… it is grey looking… I click the token without results… I mouseover and it says on bottom in red “CANNOT AUCTION”… I wasn’t intending to auction, I was intending to use it. I contacted support and they told me I could sell the token on AH…that wasn’t helpful so I am posting here in hopes of resolving before my game time runs out…
When you buy a token with IRL money, you can only use it to sell on the AH for in-game gold.
If you wish to purchase game time, you buy it either as a subscription or in a two-month time block when using IRL money. The only way you can use a token for game time is if you purchase one from the AH with in-game gold (or to add to your Blizzard balance for other services).
I don’t know why it would say cannot auction, as that’s all you can use your token for when purchased through the in-game shop.
But here is a handy dandy chart one of our MVPs put together. Definitely click on it to go to the proper post for formatting.
Oh, and there are a bunch of restrictions related to tokens. Maybe one applies to your account. Like Parental Controls? Maybe the last one - that you are on Classic? Classic did not have tokens so they don’t work there.
Limitations and Restrictions
You cannot trade, mail, vendor, bank, or destroy Tokens. Tokens purchased for real money can only be listed; Tokens purchased from the Auction House can only be consumed for game time or Blizzard Balance.
You cannot delete, transfer, faction change, race change, or boost any character with a Token in their inventory.
You may use the in-game Shop to purchase a maximum of 20 Tokens per week.
Your Blizzard account can only have one type of Token and:
a maximum of 20 Tokens purchased with money in your inventory at one time
a maximum of 10 Tokens purchased with gold in your inventory at one time
Depending on market activity, a Token may take several days to sell. Tokens are sold in the order they are listed on the Auction House.
You cannot purchase Tokens if your World of Warcraft region doesn’t match the country listed on your Blizzard Account. For example, you cannot purchase a Token in the US region if your Blizzard Account is registered in an EU country.
A WoW Token can be purchased from the character selection screen using gold from multiple characters on the realm, no matter their faction. This includes gold in the character’s mailbox.
Parental Controls may block you from listing a Token on the auction house.
WoW Tokens are not available for sale or purchase in World of Warcraft Classic.
I understand now… but it remains that there is a grey token in my bag , which I purchased for 25 CAD, On the icon, it says in red “CANNOT AUCTION”… so I am confused as to what I am to do with the token…or was it a 25$ fee to eliminate a bag slot? resetting UI/reloading UI /deleting cache was not effective.
It may seem like it’s kind of a stupid suggestion, but I wonder if it is some sort of add-on or tool-tip issue - despite your attempts to fix and reset the UI. Have you manually tried left-clicking the token and selecting it to manually place it into the sell box in the default AH UI? Not right-clicking it to automatically sell (plus I don’t know what add-ons you may be using, I know Auctionator will default into their ‘selling’ panel).
