Exactly, great way of putting it. And right now this is perfectly acceptable within the rules, and my whole point is that it should not be.
i agree with the OP completely. anybody who doesn’t play the game exactly the same way i do is a filthy cheater who should be banned and probably even arrested
Even if Blizzard auto banned you for advertising or even using the word “boost” in game, it wouldn’t eliminate the boosting. It would just move to discord servers/web sites and move to pure RL currency over tokens. The only way they could really put a dent into boosting services would be to target ones that are clearly breaking the rules (ie selling carries for RL money) and run sting operations on them. Have undercover GMs buy a carry and when they join the boosting team, you just ban them. After enough teams get banned, there will be less people willing to risk their accounts to boost over for RL cash.
You are also absolutely right. Just because you make something against the rules doesn’t mean it eliminates it from existing. But even just taking the posture that it is unacceptable and bad for the game and community is a step in the right direction.
Lots of things are illegal in real life, and still happen. Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be illegal.
Which would be a good reason. I would be willing to bet most people that get carries are more like 5 average guys that try to join the YMCA basketball tournament and are turned away because they arent tall enough.
No, account bound.
If I want to mail a new alt of mine 10K to get started it will actually have a positive effect on the economy. My first stop will be the AH to buy bags. It would suck starting with 1G, I’m not new to the game, it would be an unnecessary hinderance and detrimental to my game.
And if I wanted to bring all my gold together on one character to buy something really expensive, its still good for the economy.
But if you want to kill my ability to trade gold to others, so be it.
Oh and I forgot to mention trade chat on populated servers is so full of boosting sales than it renders trade for other purposes virtually useless
Trade chat has been useless for trade for over a decade. in between trolls, political spam, thunderfury links, etc.
Besides that, your conceit is showing. people using trade to sell carries are using it for it’s intended purposes. it’s trade chat. not trade-only-what-nexumus-approves-of chat.
It’s already not allowed in LFG they just need a better system to enforce it tbh.
This. there are addons that effectively hide the WTS adds in LFG. Blizzard could do it themselves, but for some reason they prefer to leave the policing up to us. it’s ridiculous.
I’ve got nothing against the boosting itself, the problem is all the spam in the group finder and the public chat rooms (which is clearly against ToS).
Not really, cause this would mean that others cant win the trophy anymore. But in WoW, you can run as many dungeons or raids as you want. Basically everyone can win the YMCA championships all the time and it doesnt matter what the other players do.
Its not really comparable.
legit groups still outweigh sale posts by far, i go through on occasion an report all sale groups as the are explicitly not allowed in the lfg tool.
With the limiter on trade chat you can’t really “spam” too much and it’s allowed to be there.
Yes it is, LOL! I have seen Glad players for example that are terrible! Whispered a Disc Priest once, and he told me he got boosted to 2.4k cause he paid gold, and admitted he wasn’t very good. I am a school teacher and pre-covid we had a volleyball league, one of the schools who won got banned from the league cause they used highschool students, that is the same thing as what people are doing in WOW.

the real problem here is that the boosting services (specifically Huoken) have figured out how to get around the chat limit.
they park 5-6 alts on a server, so they have 5-6 the amount of chat lines they can hit, to drown out competition, while technically staying within the rules.
it’s really annoying, and I’m pro boosting.
IMHO, should be against the rules to pay in gold or real money for anything having to do with loot or rating.
There’s dozens of boosting communities, each posting at different times.
And? It’s not spam for multiple people to sell their services.
And imo they’re just selling a service like someone offering to clean your car for you.
It reminds me of when I was younger and played soccer, I happen to live on the border of Mexico, Juarez to be exact. Every July there was a tournament called The Great Border Shootout, everytime and every year the teams from Mexico would cheat by having older players. One year we played in the championship Under 14, after the game one of the Juarez players kissed his wife and two kids, then drove off to his job!!!
Lots of things are illegal in real life, and still happen. Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be illegal.
But if you can’t actually enforce it, is it really illegal? For example drugs in most states are illegal but if the police couldn’t step up their own buys or act as dealers, they would almost never catch any one. I am not saying Blizzard should or shouldn’t do anything about carries, I am saying that just saying “it is bad” without being able to actually enforce it is pointless and people will continue to come here and complain about it.
They need to have teeth to enforce it or it won’t matter.
Offering to clean your car is not the same thing as boosting or carrying people to a rating, read my prior post on when I played soccer in Mexico.
