Oof.
I know wow has its issues and has had exploits in the past. But large scale gold and item dupes? Easily reproduced invincibility? I don’t remember wow ever having exploits on that scale. I think the closest were burst macros back in the day?

I remember hearing early on about dupe bugs that involved using instances and rollbacks when the world server crashed.
Which in 2004, the world server crashing happened like every other day.
Only thing I’m going to say about that game is ,Out the frying pan into the fire. You’re going to have the same boha has wow because it is the same folks the make it ,c.i.p. the npc’s names are about the same.
Amazon has always been much worse than Activision.
Oh I remember the server rollbacks. Never knew you could dupe items as a consequence though. I usually ended up losing stuff. Hence the roll back.
The ones who said they quit wow for this eventually came back quietly
Did anyone say that New World was going to kill WoW?
Last game I recall people making that claim about was Warhammer: Age of Reckoning. And we all know how that turned out. People pretty much shut up at that point.
My understanding is that it took two people and trading items between them, then having one person go into a dungeon.
Since they were on the instance server, they wouldn’t crash and rollback but the guy who traded the items would and get their items back.
I assume it’s fixed now, or at the very least server crashes resulting in rollbacks of 5-10 minutes are so absurdly rare it’s impossible to predict. It really only worked in Vanilla because there were days when the server was crashing every 15-20 minutes like clockwork, especially on patch days.
You just wait, they’ll get us eventually!
WoW had its very broken moments… even very recently… but yeah… the promised land of New World left me wondering who was actually ejoying this stinker. Conan’s MMO launched in better shape and more complete.
really? you don’t remember when the JC panther mounts (among others) were being duped like mad?
I do
I didn’t play for a few years so I have a gap in wow history. You’ll have to enlighten me. Was there mass duping and gold exploits? What about invincibility?
it will be a good game here in a couple of years when they add a new lair of pve content
they just got to fined a niche like eso and gw2 did
Tortage remains the best new player experience in any MMO.
I can guarantee you that any MMO that comes out is going to have someone saying it’s the next Wow killer
and whenever Ashes of Creation comes out
and if Dreamhaven makes an MMO they’ll get their own wow killer thread and the LoL MMO once it starts releasing screenshots and info that’ll get its own Wow killer thread.
I mean, I’m still waiting for a sincere claim. I suppose people have less-than-genuinely made the claim, but I still haven’t seen someone that legitimately believes in a “WoW killer.”
That’s absolutely nuts.
I had a feeling NW was going to be a dumpster fire. Looks like I was right.
Only WoW can kill WoW. While New World is doing a great job of killing itself. I doubt Amazon would actually take some of the commenters serious and nuke the game just to restart it like FFXIV but if patches don’t work who knows.
Its right in the name… New World… its literally the same game as we have seen 25 times before… just a new world.
…and launched nowhere near complete, like most before it.
I’m not a defender of New World, I have not even tried it. But I will say you not remembering these things is largely a product of how old WoW is and how slowly information spread when the game was in its infancy. If vanilla WoW were released today things like the totem stacking bug would have permeated the game and made a meme of it very quickly.
