I highly, highly doubt that the Pathfinder devs, while creating Pathfinder, sat around twirling their long, black mustaches, saying something like, “Mwuh huh hah ha haa! We’ll teach those silly players who want flying!”
The devs didn’t want flying, because they wanted their work experienced a certain way. That’s understandable. The players wanted flying, because they wanted to experience the devs work a different way. That’s understandable.
Pathfinder is how you get both. It’s not a punishment.
