Honestly I feel like people in the OP give the average tank a bad name. 99% of the tanks I come across are cool and patient. They explain mechanics and let you know where and when you messed up if there is a wipe.
Very rarely do I ever come across someone that acts as entitled as the OP.
I think the biggest thing is if people want more tanks then be nicer. The tank will go at a pace that is comfortable to them not the speed that you think they should be going or that the Mythic geared tank in your last run was able to do.
This community could learn a lot by being generally nicer and more accepting and less selfish and “me me me” with everything.
Right on. Most of the time the most annoying thing is when someone doesn’t know the mechanics and doesn’t speak up. Tell me at the beginning of the run that you don’t know what’s what and I can explain and plan accordingly.
yea. it’s an issue and people like you are why I don’t tank for pugs.
When you’re running ahead pulling more mobs do you know
what those mobs do
what cooldowns the tank has available?
what cooldowns the healer has available?
I’m going to guess it’s a big fat no to all three of those.
And, yes, I realize they’re not as important in leveling content as they are later in the game, but it still matters, and infinitely more so in end-game content where even one extra mob can wipe a group due to lack of interrupts.
i pug all my content due to work schedule so yes i deal with a lot of baddies and toxic players. no idc i’ve been in guild runs where RL and even other guildies were toxic.
i can tank, heal, and dps but i choose to dps for multiple reasons 1. lack of tank spots outside of 5mans 2. i aint got time to gear up 2-3 specs unless it takes very similar gear stat weight wise.
Maybe you need them to be simple. Some of us, do not. Like the 8 people that liked my post.
Except not really. On havoc DH it feels good to press eyebeam, blade flurry, and your big CDs. On assasination rouge, it feels good to play in your vendetta window. On WW monk, it feels good to use your images, press fist of fury, even blackout kick.
Do you really think pressing shield wall is eqauvalent to any of that? If so, you haven’t played any dps.
Congratulations, you got triggered by my forum alt.
Tank here, and one with experience in content just under the upper rewarding tiers (heroic raiding, M+12 and higher). I pull at a pace that keeps the group moving/active without swarming us with mobs as much as I can. This means I might not pull big, but I chain pull in the sense that as soon as one group is dying/dead, as long as everything looks alright (healer mana, my CDs, etc) I am pulling the next pack.
However, I have had DPS pull more mobs and send me scrambling for threat so the healer does not get smashed. Accidental pulls can happen and I try to let those slide, but then there are those intentionally pulling more mobs or dangerous mobs that really need space to move to avoid their moves. Sometimes I survive these and can get the group back up, sometimes I die but the group cleans up, but it is also not uncommon that the group wipes.
Tanks need to pay attention to the following:
healer mana
mob positioning so melee DPS does not get cleaved, DPS that pull are nasty at messing this up
their own cooldowns
the position of unpulled mobs in relation to the group in case they get pulled
I have also seen complaints that some tanks pull less then what they can handle, maybe they do in pugs because they don’t know what the group can handle. If they do the same in set groups that they work with, that is another issue. In pugs however, there is always that shadow of doubt and there will be those tanks that error on the side of caution as long as the timer is made.
This right here is why there is and has been a shortage. The ratio of roles changes to favor dps when it comes to what most people think of as ‘endgame’ — raiding.
It really sucks to give up a role (and sometimes class) that you dedicate most of your time to because tank spots are always filled and “oh no thx, we don’t need anymore melee dps”.
yup thats why i like ranged dps cause EVERYONE is always pugging ranged but typically melee is usually full. at the start of an expac people usually have their tanks/healers set you will see groups fall off around mid expac where they then got to recruit a tank/healer.
it’s tiring gearing 2 different specs 1 dps and 1 tank/healer as well as staying ontop of changes/rotation/etc… for me i find it easier to gear a 2nd dps spec then a healer/dps combo not to mention as a healer you have to dps. why a healer got to be dpsing when my main roll is to heal? just so i can push content faster?
If you’re a decent tank. Soon as you hit 120 you get benthic gear and you run m0 to get a key then run m+2 - +4 (or even higher) until you get decent gear. No real tank runs heroic dungeon anymore. Thus why there is a “lack” of tank
