Tips for PvP

Playing Player versus Player content can both be absolutely mind numbing or a stroll in the park as you cleave your way through the enemy team to the flag cap, half of the time it is incredibly monotonous and tedious with the repetitive idea of people fighting in mid or just completely ignoring the whole purpose of the battle ground with people thinking that their way is best and that everyone should follow their strategy.

First of all, shut up. Second of all, follow a better strategy of …
~playing your role as you should play it~

Dps is literally the most straight forward simple and basic role of just hitting enemy with sword untill dead. The way how most battlegrounds strive is by teamfights, how do you teamfight? Stick together, staying together is the definitive way of winning almost every single battleground, even if your team is a little unbalance in terms of Frontline and Backline you can still play a certain way to win any teamfight if played correctly.

Frontline characters would be classified as Melee, Tanks, Healers (I’ll get to healers later). As melee it is your duty to act as a vanguard for your backline casters and to peel healers so they can stay alive and help you stay alive, don’t immediately run into the brunt of the enemy team and outrun healer los while also taking aggro of the whole player team, that equals instant death and you selfishly leave your team at a disadvantage of one less frontline to protect them. On the defense for your team, ward off melee from reaching your backline/healers with impairs and a disarm if possible, for ranged throw a stun or harass them to get them to run back further or to target you instead of your squishier team mates. On the offense, act as a Calvary by opening up on someone with a full burst to at least bring them low enough in a execute range. If you see a healer focusing your target then disengage from that person and either move onto another person or run back to your backline to run out of los of the enemy team but stay in range of healers. Always run back to your team no matter what since when the enemy over extends you can always retaliate with your team to burst them down while they are away from the rest of their team.

Each teamfight varies upon the positioning of your other team mates, if your casters are constantly running away from someone and casting or if your healers are literally hugging you for a peel then you’re in a disatvantage, you never want to be focusing someone who is getting focused healed and you never want casters nor ranged or healers free casting. Keep stress on healers and enemy health bars since running and healing is the worst situation any healer can be in, and don’t every chase someone away from a team fight since they can put you in a awkward position away from team los, and downtime from the teamfight.

Dueling healers and tanks is damn near impossible if they just pop all of their cooldowns defending a base, and tanks is out of the question. Dueling other dps although is a literal test of skill, since it just two kits fighting eachother with limited cooldowns, defensives, and heals. Try to conserve defensive cd’s for when the opponent is about to pop burst or has popped steroid or has popped burst, use heals as soon as health starts dropping by the quarter, and always stay in range of the dps if it is a ranged dps and if fighting a melee dps then always stay facing said dps, remember to always press slows and stun when in the middle of a burst or combo. to give the enemy downtime on dps.

For backline dps such as hunters, and casters, you’re playing as a turret for your team and your sole order is to just pelt the nearest person that gets in your range with your super death magics and hurty sticks of doom. or bullets… It is mostly vice versa as melee dps, half of the time your job is to peel for team and to focus a vital target, whether that would be a focus or a free casting healer you should do your best to do what you do best as a ranged dps by making their health bar disappear with a few abilities.

You mostly want to put stress on a single person until they back away or until they die so try to share a target with someone else or focus someone who doesn’t have the healers attention, or someone who over extends or a squishy class, mostly you want to kill their frontline if you can with heavy cc and a heavy burst or to make healers waste their cds as your switch target to someone without healer focus or defensive cooldowns or to at least kill your focus target swiftly if you can. As backline you’re mostly unprohibited in combat and can free cast with a clearer mind so try to assist the frontline a little more by thinking for them and assisting by throwing a stun or slow for them or even boosting their dps with your dps, most team fights are about how quick you act to assist and help your teammate before they die. Even just a freedom, bop, priest swoop, evoker swoop, or anything can greatly help a comrade, just don’t ignore the guy running away from the rouge posion stabbing them to death in the backline…

Stealth melee dps like rogues and feral druids act mostly the same as regular dps. Although since you have the advantage of surprise and a dps burst like no other class with right execution you can about kill anyone or at least nearly beat them to a inch of their life… your main idea is to roll in and out of combat, your sustain absolutely sucks and your defensives are finite, you have to hit and run the most vulnerable person, make them pop their cooldowns or waste as many abilities you can on someone before running back to your team or dipping back into stealth, (Rogues remember to always pop feint before getting into a team fight.) You usually want to waste as much energy as you can and pop as my a combos you can on one person, if the whole team turns a blind eye then stay on focus until you kill them or if you are being peeled off of your target. Rinse and repeat until either success or failure, half of the time its depending on how your team opens up with your opportunity to strike at your focus target or someone else as healers divert their attention to your focus.

Healers and tanks :

If you ever get into a battleground as healer just remember that you are basically the team mom trying to make sure the dps doesn’t stick a fork in the outlet.

Your main role is even simpler than the role of dps although more difficult, Keep you and your team alive while keeping out of the enemy team aggro. You usually never want to charge in with your dps into the frontline but your station is always either too far away, or too close to the battle, you usally want to just stay in a 10-15 yard distance either in between the backline and frontline or away from both since you can be stunned or slowed at any moment as you fall back away from the team, usually your team should never abandon you but don’t expect everyone to know that running away from the person literally giving you life is a bad idea, again your role is like playing as the big momma for your team and sometimes you can be the turning point in a battle with a clutch enough heal. Don’t position yourself far away from the team, instead always try to be behind your team so they cant harass you as hard, you’re usually the officer of the battleground when it comes to a chain of command, when there isn’t a tank you remind people to assist you and where you can be at most proficiently. NEVER BE GUARDING FLAG AS HEALER, half of the time I see a healer guarding flag because some hunter or rogue didn’t want to hold flag, and most of the time its the healer without a freedom trinket. Please guard flag for healer so they can help assault bases

Always ask for a peel, run into your team, type /help fear them, root them, hover away, change form do anything but always ask for a peel. Healer is if not the most important spec in a battleground since they can outheal your dps or just completely negate your burst entirely, don’t disrespect them, and don’t ignore them either, that person is literally playing healer just so that you can win for them in dps.

Tanks:

Tank class is situational when it comes to battlegrounds. Blood dk is a spin king and can 1v10 a whole team almost. Prot paladin is the epitome for vanguard, throwing bops, silencing enemies, mass blind, horse knockback, insane cc in general and huge aoe with massive defensives. druid bear just being a overall health tank, out healing your dps and ignoring all cc, shruging off damage and bursts, protection warrior being like the big daddy for your team, reducing damage dealt, consistent cc, great survivability and either great at harassing the enemy team or protecting your team or being an incredible vanguard for defensive objectives.

All of these are usually just great for guarding flags or running flags. Tank classes with a better mobility like DH’S clearing warsong gulch as if it were an Olympic long jump, or deathknights slow resist/stun resists/knockback resist and over survivability or druids just being druids and not even acknowledging your existence while they walk into a ice cream shop, get a vanilla shake, walk out, go into the flag room and freely cap as their team (hopefully) kills efc.

Tanks like warriors and paladins are usually great at guarding points like arathi basin, battle for gilneas, eye of the storm etc.

In team fights however a tank can be just as useful as a healer with their utility, they act as a better frontline for your backline by just harassing the enemy team with their incredibly annoying kit of mass cc and damage reductions. Warriors demoralizing shout can almost just negate all dps, Paladins stupid amount of cc is enough to make a caster in real life probably start casting spells at their computer in effort to kill them, and death knights are just professional gropers when it comes to snatching away your team mates. They make sure you absolutely can-NOT leave their vicinity without them saying so. Druid is just a druid, bear roar, bear there, bear here.

Tank in a battleground also acts like the main target caller and lead charge, whatever target they are focusing you better focus too since their cc renders whoever their target is immobile for the rest of the battleground, although the main problem with tanks is their dps, they can kill but in vicinity of a enemy healer its almost better to just go back to graveyard or run back to team or to try their best to be annoying.

Each class plays a little differently, and every battle can be won decisively based up coordination, thinking selfishly and just trying to hit enemy with sword will only work if you have a opportunity to kill and aren’t getting killed yourself. If you’re asking your self “HOW THE AM I DYING?!!?” Its probably because you’re standing behind a wall away from the team while chasing the low health warlock back into their graveyard with flag and getting ganked by two undead rogues on top of a frost mage slowing perma frosting you.

Good luck and happy pvping.

I ain’t reading all that. You wrote a thesis, on a forum, concerning PvP. You’re too invested.

First time post, on a throwaway Classic alt, writes a Harry Potter. No thanks.

  1. Enter BG.
  2. Find stragglers.
  3. Attack them.

Let everyone else do the objectives.

There’s my much shorter version.

would you consider reading it if i did it?

How are rogues defenses infinite?

TLDR for sure. DUDE!!!
