It warms my servos, knowing that someone else knows what Dieselpunk is. It’s such an underused style. It also makes sense that Gallywix would move towards the more grimy Dieselpunk designs and futuristic advanced tech soldiers. Maybe even with some added genetic engineering!
Helmets, gas masks and long coats!
To be entirely Honest, I just really like StarCraft and the Gasmask Aesthetic that ghosts have.
Mix some of that aesthetic into WoW and you have something truly, truly special.
The “United Empire” from Endless Space, The Helghast from Killzone, and the Terran Dominion from StarCraft all come to mind.
A proper Militaristic Evil faction in WoW. Something I wanted out of Warlords of Draenor but never really got.
Something truly capable of rivaling the Alliance or the Horde. An Engine kept aloft by Industry and Propaganda. Much more convincing Villain than Space Demons or The Jailer.
Let’s be real, the iron horde would have been nothing without goblin tech.
I wish they would’ve touched on this more. But Draenor was scrapped for parts and all development was focused on the Next Expansion, which was easily the best expansion in my opinion.
Hopefully they do the same with Shadowlands…
Draenor the best expansion?? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves now…
No no. Legion.
All the parts from Draenor were scrapped and development was focused on Legion. Which was the best in my opinion.
I will say Draenor was Aesthetically my favorite. but that’s mostly irrelevant.
We all know that Cata was the best for one objective reason… they added goblins.
Goblin starting zone is so amazing!
I’m not sure when last you played gw2 (and I am not going to read through the full thread at this point in case it’s already been pointed out), but this information is out of date. There are numerous classes that fill each of these roles now, and there was literally a raid tournament happening all last week. M+ was taken from fractals in gw2 which have been around for a billion years and are done daily by the players that enjoy pushing difficult content.
Last month there were pvp tournaments as well. The skill ceiling for raids isn’t as high as wow, but they are still challenging especially with how high the skill floor for becoming good at gw2 is.
Anyway, the thread caught my eye because I main an Engineer, swapping between holosmith for dps and scrapper for tank/off-heals. Definitely insanely fun and it’d be nice to see a similar class in wow, but wow has some other major issues to deal with first before introducing a new class imo.
This has been brought to my Attention, and I intend to give GW2 a more fair shake in the Future.
I tried really hard to get into it earlier, but the Class progression felt odd to me, and tying your abilities to your weapons felt really bad… I also find Character customization to be a little lacking. (though maybe that’s just the Asura)
However, as you said. It actually does have more PvE content than I thought. I’ll give it the ol’ college try.
Ultimately however my point is that WoW really deserves a similar fantasy. Especially with races like Goblins and Gnomes. It just seems PAINFULLY obvious.
it really was an absolute blast!!
This makes me IMMEDIATELY think of the New Vegas ranger snipers in Fallout: New Vegas
If you haven’t seen the Helghast from Killzone, look em up.
It’s obviously a little to “Hard-edged” for WoW. But I can see a similar aesthetic for Gallywix leading a Goblin Army.
The Allegory to WW2 However may be a little heavy handed…
ooh definitely was cool looking them up, they really have that “Hard evil (super) solider for evil boss” kind of look
Getting into gw2 is the hardest part. They do a really bad job of getting new players acquainted with the game. BUT once you get beyond that and start to understand builds, sigils, runes and specific stats on gear, you’ll start to see which classes can do which roles. The answer is all classes can do any role, for the most part – some obviously significantly better than others due to role-compression (x-class can tank, but y-class can tank and bring z to the team, so they are the “meta” pick, etc).
Check out MightyTeapot and MukLuk on youtube, they both make great guides for both new and experienced players. There are also a few websites you can lookup builds on, not sure what the rule is on linking here but a quick google search should pull them up.
And yes as someone who plays mostly gnomes and mechagnomes, a tinker class has been a longtime dream in wow. I only swapped to dark iron on this guy because pugs keep standing on me with mechanics in keys and raid because they “can’t see me…”
If I take another swing at GW2, It will not be with a focus on Progression or Endgame. I will simply play it to experience what Engineer has to Offer in both Scrapper and Holosmith.
Seems like a stupid mistake.
Ah even better then. There are tons of meta map events to do (though they do require you purchase the expansions, but they are definitely worth it). Almost every map is basically a living zone, where completing certain events triggers new events until one epic multi-player final event kind of like an outdoor raid. Definitely a lot of fun, and the best part is once you get your gear if you ever leave the game and come back your gear will still be the gear you need, none of this constant grinding for new gear that wow requires so it’s a nice change of pace when you need to come up for air from wow hah
TBH I like that WoW always has upwards progression to be made.
If I ever got BiS in every slot, I’d just stop playing. Why continue going at that point?
Honestly just had that happen with a game, and i’ve had that happen with a few games. It feels so odd to max out, espically with a game you’ve played for so long, like its just odd to have done everything the game has to offer, or just be the best/ have the best gear. because it feels like a “Journey is over” kind of feeling
That’s kinda the point in gw2, the reason people keep playing is because the content is actually really fun to play. Specs feel good with no gcd, the events are fun, it took a while to get used to thinking “Oh yeah…the goal is to have fun” after playing wow for so long but that’s really what they aim for.
