An engineer/machinist/tinker class would be super cool! Though personally I would prefer one thing for the dps portion of the class:
Focus on firearms/bombs instead of turrets.
Like…have Firearm (rifle or dual handguns?) for the general dps rotation. A grenade launcher and/or flamethrower and/or toxic sludge spray and/or electro net for aoe. Giant beam cannon (or maybe just straight up like, pirate ship cannon?!) for a high damage long cooldown ability. Toss in utility/defensiveness in the form of various gadgets maybe.
Not saying there should be zero turrets period, but the primary rotation should focus on the firearms instead of the turret.
Definitely! A Gnome holding a mini-gun would be an amazing sight. I’ll be one step closer to being a T-800 Terminator. Now I just need the red ocular lenses.
And every ability shows you shooting some different gun. Frontal cone channeled ability where you pepper everything with your minigun for 3 seconds, aoe attack where you shoot a huge rocket launcher, big damage cooldown where you fire a big laser from an Ironman looking back-arm-cannon…
I should really rephrase my point, After over 200 replies.
Necromancers are a core, and integral part of the WoW universe, they just aren’t super unique by most Accounts.
An RPG with a Necromancer Class is a common Idea.
And I think WoW goes above that, by making something More unique in the Form of Death Knights
It’s not that WoW doesn’t need Necromancers, It’s that Tinkers are more Unique, and that WoW already has a class that uses Necromancy.
I can see this. Up above there was an Idea Akin to old Paladin Seals from Vanilla and BC.
Where you load a “Special Ammo” into your gun, and it applies special effects on each auto attack.
The problem is that WoW classes, especially the expansion classes are based on WC3 hero units. The Death Knight in WC3 was the hero version of the Necromancer. If you think about it’s abilities, they were pretty much Necromancer abilities on steroids. In addition, Blizzard purposely created the Warlock class in place of the standard Necromancer in order to differentiate their game from Everquest.
Thus it makes sense that we have a Death Knight class instead of a Necormancer class.
Tinkers could also have some mobility abilities similar to DH. Like a rocket boost double-jump or some kind of evasive moves that increase defenses, while evading.
TBH. After Demon Hunter, I’d be okay with Tinkers not being exceptionally Mobile.
A flight form in my Mech suit would be nice, but other than that it isn’t too necessary.
Some increased movement speed or spot mobility is all they would need.
Considering they may end up relying on Turrets for DPS, an exceptional amount of mobility isn’t necessary.
Maybe a Ratchet and Clank inspired Helicopter pack. ( I can’t link pictures but you can look it up)
I do wonder if turret-based gameplay is a possibility here. I’m wondering if the mech will overpower the concept and each spec is mech-based, including the heal spec.
I can’t help but feel that I would vastly prefer a class where every spec is using a mech, and the DPS is heavily explosion based with crazy fast paced gameplay.
I’m talking Lasers, Bombs, Machine Guns, Missiles, the whole 9! Like something out of Gundam or Macross.
The Sky is the limit.
I suppose the point to settle on is that there are a lot of potential answers, and none of them wrong. It goes to show how much potential the class has.
To be Frank, I’m more concerned with the representation than anything.
It just feels weird to me that there isn’t a Tinker class already. When this game has races like Goblins and Gnomes. Zones like the Mechagon, ETC.
I do think the main issue is having an expansion that fits. An expansion about the afterlife and death really doesn’t fit a Goblin/Gnome centric class that pilot robot suits.
I do have a theory; I believe that the Undermine expansion that popped up during April Fool’s wasn’t a gag at all, but a purposeful leak showing off the basic premise of the next expansion. Consider that Blizzard has used April Fool gags to leak future content before (the Tinker hero itself was revealed via an April Fool gag), and in-game Gallywix, Gazlowe, and Mekkatorque are all MIA in this expansion completely, and the war for Azerite never really stopped after Sylvanas left the Horde.
It also should be noted that Kezan supposedly has ridiculously high amounts of Azerite deposits, and Undermine is located below Kezan.
Also Gallywix’s cannon hasn’t been fired yet, and supposedly it’s pointed at Stormwind.
Until they used engineering-made wormhole generators to enter the shadowlands, or to get out of the maw.
They didn’t, but they REALLY easily could have… and then we’d actually have a reason for why our characters are able to escape the maw, since that’s still unexplained.
