I feel like classic is rewarding me for time put in mostly . It doesn’t matter if I’m chilling with Netflix on other screen or giving half my attention to a farming route .
Retail feels like I have to pay full attention during high keys or high rated arena and I get rewarded … I hate the rng though .
It has a lot more classic rpg elements in it than retail. It’s a pretty huge part of what people like about it. You put in the time and become a monster in pvp. That said, a more skilled player with the same toolkit will always do better.
Because there are other games for what you want “skills”, such as Dota, fortnite, CoD etc…
this is a mmorpg
Edit: I should add, mmorpg requires knowledge rather than skills. If you start to put “skill” requirement, then all PvP or even PvE needs to be “fair” across classes and gear progression, which eventually gets what you got today: Refail
no time invested + no skill = no reward
time invested + no skill = little reward
no time invested + skill = little reward
time invested + skill = high reward
Retail
no time invested + no skill = little reward time invested + no skill = high reward no time invested + skill = little reward
time invested + skill = high reward
Look no further than the honor system. Time is definitely more important than skill. For someone like me with limited time though (I have kids), it’s basically endless since I can’t do 12+ hours per day… I may never run out of things to do lol…
1400 arena rating doesnt take long, but you definelty need skill. The reward for 1400 isnt great though.
You need a massive time sink sure, but if you arnt somewhat skilled, you will fail. As to the r14 rewards - they compete with aq40/naxx loot in a pvp setting.
There is a skill factor. Its not built around solo skill and 1v1. Its build around being a skillful member of a group. You might have an amazingly skilled flag carrier, and players that know how to shut down enemy healers. You might be a skillful leader in organising team tactics.
If you have no group skill, it doesnt matter how many hours you grind, a better team will always earn more honor/cp than you.
Look all the old vanila pvp video, all of them just one shot video with 2 or 3 healer babysitting. Just accept the truth, typing a wall of text doesn’t change facts
I ran premade groups. Personally R11. We created many R10-R14 players on Blackdragon Flight. It took over a million honor per week to increase the higher ranks. It was made worse from other players also competing that grind.
Most of us were no higher geared than MC / minor BWL and ZG gear. All of us were exalted with wsg/av/ab and used those pieces. Lots of high stam/ap/crit, healers built around survival instead of built like a raid healer, team compositions and tactics that enhanced one another.
No player could go and 2 shot, 5 players on their own, what you seen was pvp highlights, crit/kill montages if you will. You never seen the stuff behind the scenes.
Upto phase 5 and the release of AQ, sure 100 percent. Its about gear itemization. Lower pvp gear set is blue, with bonuses built for pvp, some ZG blue gear is better for pvp than bis raid dps gear.
The battle ground pieces are great for pvp also. AB boots and the run speed increase. The epic bg gear is insanely op for pvp (WSG legs/bracer, AV rings/weapons/trinket/ AB shoulders and/or 3 set)
