get a better tank.
If rank 14 took skill, why did so few of the rank 14’s go on to get high ranks in arena?
Coming from someone who did the rank 14 grind, even arranged wsg matches were not nearly as tough competition BACK THEN as 2300+ arenas were later. Now maybe on these big classic servers, bg’s might get much more competitive than they were in vanillla
Even if you say arenas were competitive, your battlegroup also mattered in regards to arenas. The first professional 5v5 team was guild Notorious from tichondrius (battlegroup 9, hands down the toughest battlegroup in regards to competition in TBC/WOTLK), none of them were even above rank 12 previously
Forgot who it was that sponsored them, their 5v5 was war, mage, hunter, priest, pal (alliance)
Threat generation isnt infinite, based on the tanks skillset - there exists a threat generation cap, based on gear and rage generated/spent. Im simply stating that a better mage would understand this already, and plan in advance.
WoW classic or retail isn’t a skill game… It rewards commitment and to some degree being social. No skill really required.
So yeah. Time is the cost.
So many que dodgers looking for that basic pug to steamroll was the very cause of it. Arena forced players to pvp, and arena matchmaking ensured higher ranked/more skilled players would face against each other - this isnt active in the r14 grind.
Working as intended. Vanilla WoW was created as an RPG and having good mechanical skills was not supposed to be a requirement to progress in the game.
yeah, threat gen isn’t infinite, but if 2 frostbolts is pulling off the tank, get a better tank.
I have gone back and watched a lot of old pvp videos of grand marshals i use to watch back in the day… and ive noticed, this time round, that a lot of the peope they were fighting were really bad, keyboard turning or low geared… occasionally they would show a fight against a warlord or a better player, but most of the time it was against undergeared noobs…
yup that is how vanilla was
Not if those first 2 frostbolts were cast/hit before the tank touched it…or the tank got a taunt resist…or was busy bulding rage/threat on other targets…so many variables
its a very in-depth rotation it takes a lot of concentration to do
Yeh super tough to download omen or some other threat meter. ![]()
Does it take skill when an Enhance Shaman out-rolls a cloth class for Illusionary Rod?
The rewards for ranking in PvP are just terrible for the time and effort required to get them. The epic set is on par with T2 roughly in PvP or slightly better and you get weapons on par with R14 in AQ40. BwL and AQ40 aren’t exactly free loot, but they are cakewalks in comparison to that grind. You can get a lot of those slots within several months easily if you have high attendance and perform well in a serious raiding guild. Why spend a few months doing literally nothing but eating, sleeping, and WoW for gear that is on par with BwL and AQ40?
This is what people nonstop complained about retail that anyone could catch up to you no matter how much time and effort you put in. This is what they wanted that if they sank enough time that they could be the ones with the epic mounts and the purples destroying everyone at Pvp and being godlike everywhere they move. This is what the grind is all about becoming that god
If you sink in enough time killing scripted pixel dragons, you will sh1t on everyone in PvP. If you spend that much time PvPing, you get decent gear. How is that even remotely ok?
there has never been any skill involved in this game in regards to pvp. any game where you can randomly crit, miss, or resist a skill is ZERO SKILL.
I still do think gear should have two camps though, one gear set from grinding kills in Pvp has a distinct advantage in Pvp and a disadvantage in pve and vice versa. So hopefully we arrive at this point again as some people claim it had once been I was not around for that glorious time ever since the dawn of my wow gaming it has been raiders owning PvP. Pve gear maybe having a stat that scales against npcs rather than players and Pvp gear on players
I don’t know about that I’ve had plenty of fights where none of those occurred and you had to trade cooldown and kite to survive/win like a chess match which is hardly unskilled
This is why resilience was added, which was a pretty damned good system imo.
