Tier Sets not fitting aesthetic of Raid they come from

Have we just abandoned the Idea of Tier sets looking like they came from the raid we’re doing?

No shade on WoW’s artists, here. The sets are fine and the rendering is good.

But this is the second season where the armor doesn’t really go with the Raid or even the M+ environment.

TWW season one raid has some of the coolest weapons added to the game… and they match exactly 0 armor sets from the raid.

Now we’re going into the crazy world of goblins, and these armor sets look like more random class fantasy concepts, but aren’t tied to the theme of the season.

Who else would like to see more Tier sets that are both class based but also incorporate elements of the current Raid and/or season?

they abandoned that in DF season 2

have you been living under a rock?

class designed sets > raid designed sets

Yes, actually there was a whole post on it a while ago they wanted to decouple it after trying for a while.

I don’t really care for these sets so far but im gonna wait till i see them with all their effects in game before judging.

Might rush a lock elite set this tier though… feel like its got to many mog pierces to pass up should i swap mains

bfa and SL (aside from castle nathria plate) were the biggest crime of tier set appearance ive ever seen. the darkest days. and this was after legion and their incredible sets

OP; if u want raid designed sets be ready to sacrifice 9 distinct appearances in order to have cloth, raid, plate, and mail sets only

Both are possible is the point. These sets look like they come from some side story, not the raid.

the issue is they look like garbage. but at least they are class garbage.

Yep, speaking of rocks, looking like a rock in DF S1 sucked.

People gripe on them, but BfA and SL sets did have some incredible stuff for piecemeal work.

Like the Uldir sets can get fantastic mileage for low-fantasy looks when you swap out the helms and shoulders.

yep and we all looked not like rocks only, but shamans

if you main zandalari then those sets were good for you

however everyone else suffered

We did get an Ethereal set because of an Ethereal boss recently. :mag::robot:

…and now we are getting one for warrior so i’m curious if that means Ethereal boss in Undermined. Probably comes with a cool axe. :8ball::robot:

That’s because these weren’t technically tier sets. I’m not saying drop tier so that all plate/leather/mail/cloth get stuck with same armor sets.

I’m saying keep the class fantasy, but add raid aesthetic to the design.

Again, the weapons from Nerub-ar Palace are some of the coolest they’ve added to the game, but they match none of the armor sets from there.

My guess is they could find a happy balance between incorporating style elements from the raid without going full “all must be made of rock”

IDK, just feel like another class variation with no connection to the story and theme is disappointing.

if you want an example of 12 class sets designed through the raid look at sepulcher sets…

that stuff was absolutely hideous. no thanks

That’s always a big debate.

Should Class sets look like the Raid, or should they look like the Class?

Because sometimes those two ideas can converge, but not always.

And it makes sense for the armor to look like it belongs on the place you got it from, but it also kinda sucks when your Class armor doesn’t look like something your Class would wear.

I personally prefer when Class Armor is based on the Class with minor Raid undertones.

For example, when we got a Naga Raid and all the Sets were themed after the Naga… Those were basically useless sets, because we can’t play as Naga, and they didn’t look good in any non-Naga character.

As a warrior, I know your pain, those were awful. Shaman and Paladin were ok, don’t really remember any of the other sets.

paladin is the only one that looked like its class. so i definitely think if they do a agenda to make class sets look like the raid we will lose the class in the process. then may as well get rid of tier sets again.

More accurately, they look like they come from specific zones from specific expansions. Monk is Jade forest, specifically Jade Serpent Temple, Druids are Drustvar with all the Thornspeakers, Hunters have a distinct Castle Nathria look especially with the dark red recolor, Evokers look like either Dragon Blight or Temporal Conflux threw up on them, Demon Hunters clearly graduated from the Vault of the Wardens in Azsuna, Maldraxxus threw up on the DKs, Hey Paladins; TBC called and said they wanted the tier back and Silvermoon is suing for cultural misappropriation, Priest…um yeah I think Nazjatar maybe shoulda stayed at the bottom of the ocean with the rest of BFA. Rogues escaped a Plunderstorm, Mages got the worst of DF, Shaman I’m split between TBC again or WotLK lite, Warlocks we’re sending back to Cata to live with Shannox, and Warriors… Legion’s Tomb of Sargeras 2 electric boogaloo…

I truly disagree, no offense. And even if that were the case, it makes even less sense.

The ideal solution IMHO:

Class Sets should look like the Class.

Non-Class Armor should look like the Raid.

The problem with that is that Blizz would need to make 4 extra sets per Raid Tier, but that’s a problem for them and a boon to us

I prefer class based personally, I only want raid incorporated if it would also look good.
