Tell me, what’s meaningful about these empty levels?? What do these levels do for you besides occupy time? They don’t offer anything besides a number.
Actually having progression is great. 1-60 I gain powers and abilities at a steady pace. 61-120…no. The acquisition of skills compared to the +1 stamina you gain every level is huge in comparison.
Level squish is needed for the health of the game at this point. Now if only they’d squish the iLvls on gear to coincide it would be even better. Remove various levels of raiding by combining tiers to reduce iLvl bloat and boom. Fixed.
Wow, who kicked your dog?
They’re numbers. Not that big of a deal.
I have mixed feelings about it, on the one hand I don’t really care. On the other I am not sure I trust them not to mess it up - badly. I spend a lot of time running old content and am afraid that will be borked (yes, I know they said it would remain unchanged but I don’t quite trust them).

This. Please.
I cant wait for the squish, looking forward to how it will streamline the old expansions
Im hoping the squish is actually a prepatch before 9.0 so we can get things adjusted ect
Fine with it here. Can’t wait for the squish and new leveling process.
Central banks could do this… but they don’t because it would be bad.
Yeah I like it. I’m a minimalist. I like depth in simplicity over huge numbers and random variables. It feels more impactful to me. A 10k crit that I was able to hit because I got that last piece that pushed me out of the 9000s feels better to me than a 10,678,345 crit followed by a 10,768,231 crit. I just end up looking at my rounded off meter to see my place in the pack.
I used to be happy to get that specific piece I was looking for. Now I’m like “hmm let me sim this random piece of garbage thrown at me to see if I should use it” … “nope, it’s trash. Oh well, I guess I’ll just keep this 355 on.”
I don’t even know what’s going on numerically half the time because it’s all so jumbled and random. And no, I’m not an idiot. I can do math. It just doesn’t feel fun anymore the way things are at this point.
I do want to say that I’m not putting down anyone who likes the d3 style numbers we have. Everyone likes different things. I just don’t enjoy it personally.
These are the reasons I am concerned about a level squish. Levels have been nearly meaningless for quite awhile now; Blizzard can do almost anything to levels without reducing their impact or purpose.
However, I remember the first stat squish, it’s what made me quit the game back in MoP. The game simply felt terrible to play compared to before that point. The stat squish that came with BfA didn’t feel as bad, but that honestly could be because moving into a new xpac helped to cover up the differences. I don’t think the lvl squish will feel good. Admittedly, I do like their stated intention of letting the lvling experience cover an entire xpac and I hope that works as promised.
This leads us into the next major issue though. If shadowlands is not the last xpac, what happens in the future? As stated in the first quote, adding another 10 lvls just takes us right back to eventually “needing” another lvl squish, meaning this isn’t actually a solution to the stated problem of having too many lvls, it’s just a bandaid. Dropping shadowlands down into the 10-50 range for the 10.0 patch would make sense, but then what happens to the lvl 60 players?
Because a lvl squish does not seem to solve the stated problems, and because I don’t think Blizzard will be able to make the transition feel good going from one side to the other, I am against the lvl squish. That said, it’s going to happen, the course has already been decided. So for what it’s worth, I hope it works well.
If they do what they claim w/ the old expansions being stand alone leveling zones then I can learn to deal with it.
Couldn’t care less. Doesn’t affect my ability to raid & Red is still dead.
What is the level squish taking away from anyone other than visual numbers on the screen?
You kind of answered your own question. For real though i do not like it because it takes away something i have earned over many years. The purpose of an rpg is to advance your character, not to regress it. You do not have to agree with me and i know many do not, but it is where i stand.
Yes 120 levels is stupid let alone 130. as it stands a large amount of the levels are meaningless and last a handful of minutes
Not everyone but apparently most are which is surprising. Only MMO I have ever seen that constantly takes things away from players.
I guess people think they need to do this to make leveling better when its just another lazy bandaid fix for boring talent system.
60 to 70% faster leveling, access to more content earlier in levels, less restrictions, more dungeons available at lower levels, oh yeah, I’m DEFINITELY thumbs up for the level squish.
Kudos to Blizzard for going through with it!
They could do every one of those things without squishing levels.
Yeah, absolutely fine with it. The game is old, 120-130 levels is far too much to grind for while at the same time, the leveling experience just to get to current content is horrific. In this instance, I can choose to level 10-50 in only MoP or WoD and then move on to Shadowlands, which I’m seriously looking forward to for leveling alts. And levels will feel more impactful than the current system. (Plus the 60-80 grind wont exist, and I won’t have a graveyard at alts just waiting to go through the awful BC/Wrath era).
As for the number next to my name, that’s arbitrary. I’m not losing anything; the memories I’ve obtained over the years of playing will never go away, and those are infinitely more important to me than some numbers.
I’m happy to go back to levels mattering more, though they honestly need to stop the temporary power stuff they’ve been doing. Forget levels, I just don’t want anymore rent abilities…
