It’s actually quite simple. Kill a few raid bosses, clear some mythic+ dungeons and earn some conquest points. It’s not exactly vague in what you have to do. Nor is it vague in pointing out that you can only pick one item.
What a load of BS.
This has nothing to do with metrics. In Legion and BFA, one of the biggest complaints about the weekly chest was the randomness of the reward. Nothing like working hard to get the best rewards only to be randomly given something that was useless for you. They’ve addressed that with Shadowlands. Now you get to choose, and the more work you put in, the more choices you get. While also expanding it to reward raiders and PvPers as well.
I think it is an attempt to keep people from getting good gear too easily. To slow progression. That’s not quite the same.
However, the problem with the weekly chest has always been a lack of choice. The tendency to get items that are pointless. The way it is setup doesn’t really fix this in any easy way unless you do all types of content (PvP,mythic+,raid)… or unless you have the time to get to the third rank of a row.
So it doesn’t give choice without a lot of complexity. Seems just giving three choices would be so much simpler.
Again no, this is a scapegoat excuse that has no basis in reality.
The only metric that Blizzard uses to rate the success of their products right now is ‘monthly active users’. That’s the metric. Were you active this month? Then you’re counted in their metrics. How long you were active for doesn’t matter, how much content you did? It doesn’t matter.
The only people claiming it matters are people upset that Blizzard made a decision they don’t like.
I wish they would just not implement this so called “vault” but instead introduce a currency called “Valor Points” and “Justice Points” that you get for completing idk a mythic dungeon? that way you can buy gear with the right stats for you and can feel good about it aswell
That’s actually an option in Shadowlands. If you don’t like any of the choices on offer in the vault, you can choose to accept a currency reward instead, although it’s not currently clear what that currency will be. I imagine for PvP you’ll get the option of choosing conquest points as a currency, but for mythic+ and raiding? No idea.
But why would people log in to play a game that they don’t enjoy? I know that “time played metric” is a meme on GD, but it doesn’t really make any sense.
Usually needless added complexity that fails to add commensurate value is caused by a good idea fairy. That is typically a manager that starts with "hey, wouldn’t it be a good idea if . . . . . . . "
do you think they didn’t have a say in all of the business decisions like making 8 hour long campaign missions in Legion or removing gear from a vendor and making it come from a box ONCE A WEEK?
They literally have no say. This has been confirmed by multiple Blizzard employees, including former game director Tom Chilton, who directed WoW all the way up to the start of Legion before he passed the reigns on to Ion Hazzikostas.
Here’s what Tom had to say specifically about this:
Since there aren’t a lot of people that can authoritatively answer one of your questions, I’ll tackle it.
“Going off that, there seems to be a significant lack of clarity on many people’s parts about what impact (if any) Activision has had on Blizzard. As the people designing the game, do you feel there has been a change in how things are done since the merger, either within game development or the company in general?”
I’ll come out and say it. Activision gets an unfair reputation among our players for this, as does Bobby Kotick. We do demos for the Activision executive team about twice per year (sometimes only once). They ask intelligent questions about why we’re doing what we’re doing, but at no point have any mandates (or even “suggestions”) about the game’s design been issued.
