Thoughts on ferals for pvp?

mostly world pvp and such… can’t decide between my feral, spriest, or levelling up a lock:( help!
edit: wpvp and bgs mostly

tl;dr Feral is good for all PvP, and a great way to piss off frost mages.

This is all just my personal preference.

Feral is probably the worst of the 3 for pvp, although do-able.
Spriest is solid especially as you get better and better gear.
Lock is the best of the 3 and will only get stronger throughout the phases as stamina and resilience go up.

Both feral and spriest are extremely limited in arena albeit doable. they are not “meta” but that does not make them bad. They can handle their own in BGs and WPVP while (IMO) lock is the best choice for all 3. Very difficult to kill, high damage, high control. I’ve played all 3 before and lock is the strongest, but probably the most boring as well.

Spriest would be my choice for solo play + fun factor.

haha yeah… you would think they have some sort of “confirm deletion” option or something.
Frost Mages give me such a hard time but it is fun shape shifting out of the freezes

They can be fun… can be amazing in 2s with the right comp.

I had so much fun with my spriest but I find it was very gear reliant (as you mentioned). I feel like the stealth factor of ferals is too good to pass up. Decisions decisions…

For World PvP Strictly, (Assuming you are using at least some PvP gear and your trinket)

Feral - very strong with stealth, CC, interrupt and heals. If you are losing a fight you can almost always escape and reset or just fly away.

Shadow Priest - very good against players of equal gear levels. If you end up dropping shadow form and healing you can oom pretty fast. Also no mobility which is a big wpvp factor

Warlock - This is world pvp easy mode. You will almost always win unless you are matched against players who vastly out gear you or if a decent rogue gets a jump on you. They have similar mobility problems to Priests but they have a spammable fear and more tools at their disposal to survive. Even if you get killed, your dots will still probably kill your opponent

Arena
Feral has historically only seen arena success in 2v2 paired with a rogue.

While this isn’t to say that performing well on a 3s or 5s team is impossible, or that nobody exists out there who bucks the trend, Ferals perform pretty poorly on average in every other circumstance compared to their peers that would fill their slot in the same comp minus said feral druid.

We have tools, absolutely we do, but…they just don’t stack up is the problem lol, other classes simply have better tools more suited.

You asked about BG and wPvP though…

BGs & wPvP

I think feral is pretty fun to play in BGs and likewise world PvP. I do a lot of BGs, as an old ranker and in general just enjoying BGs outside of raid times, and you can easily get top kills or damage, and be a key component in any pug team’s advancement.

For optimized pre-made play I would not preach feral over…say, a rogue, though. Mostly from a ranking POV, but in TBC pre-mades aren’t nearly as sweaty so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

I find feral druids rather challenging to play myself. However, skilled players can do a lot of damage with a druid!

Might be a little biased here but all 3 of those are great, but feral is probably the most fun. So much potential for counterplay and the skill cap is very rewarding. You’re a monster in BG’s, especially in ones where there are flags. Huge burst damage, and bleeds that melt warriors/rets. You will run into some situations where you can’t 1v1 people, such as healers. Priests with reflective shield will quickly make you kill yourself, paladins are too tanky, and shaman will shock you down because you don’t have a viable interrupt. Just avoid the fights you know you can’t win and its a ton of fun.

Ferals can just stay stealthed and decide when or if they want to fight. Besides rogue it is the ultimate pvp class.

Feral druid has the most favorable 1v1 matchups in the game so you shouldn’t lose to any class ever (with a bit of practice).

The spec is also capable of achieving gladiator and even 3k rating (look at the video above).

good info in this thread… thanks all. I’ll probably stay on my feral and push for the 4pc 15% speed bonus which will make it even more fun lol.

Worth noting this that feral in 2s (feral/rogue) is very “hybrid-ey” based.

As in, you need to do a lot of healing, peeling, and 2ndary support stuff, and a pretty minimal amount of actual meleeing.

Not a bad thing, but might not be everyone’s preferred style when PvPing.

Also want to emphasize how utterly crucial Warstomp was to a ton of those wins.

If you want to do arena, feral is not the route. They are good 1v1 and for world pvp, but they don’t fit the meta very well. Nelf feral is also many times weaker in arena also because no pvp racial.

Shadowplay 2s or Shadowplay+Healer 3s is much stronger than any feral comp.
