Thought it over and realized that if I stopped playing cata that means letting go of everything I put into the game since 2019 classic launch, since there are no perma-wrath era realms
Cata isn’t classic, and shouldn’t be lumped into the vanilla/bc/wotlk grouping. It is more closely aligned with retail than classic.
That is probably why they did not give us a wrath era server. Too many people would’ve stayed around on that instead of continuing onto cata.
A lot of current cata players are in the same situation but just haven’t realized it yet. Or they have realized it but are being delusional about it/ignoring it
Cata was a huge mistake because it fragmented the playerbase further. Cata seekers should have been funnelled to retail and then the dev team could have put a more polished sod and classic+ forward. An undermanned classic team tasked with cata alongside sod is bad.
I don’t believe that for a second. The basic rule across all video games is players will go through the game, maybe even a few times with different characters, then move onto another game when they’re done. Almost no one will continue to play any game forever no matter how good it might be. They move onto another game or the next expansion. Every gaming company knows this. That’s why every company releases an expansion for their popular games every couple of years and keeps making new games. Because the vast majority will get bored with a game and move on.
While I don’t particularly disagree with this, it’s a somewhat arbitrary line that you’ve personally decided to draw at WotLK. There’s always Era for permanent Era characters…
Maybe! I don’t know why they didn’t/don’t make era servers for each expansion. I think having a single (or 2: Normal/PVP) servers for each, with a yearly or two-yearly resetting ladder season that feeds back into them would be nice, and should resolve issues about what to do for arena seasons, if that’s a consideration.
wrath was alright but i got bored during the ulduar phase
in cata almost all my buds have quit. the leveling was cool but it hasn’t really held me past that
you mean Wrath was the beginning of what retail is today. wrath removed all the “danger” from the open world, wrath gave us multiple difficulty tier raids, wrath gave us RDF, wrath gave us remote queue BGs.
what did Cata actually give us that has stuck around besides the new old world (which no one cared about once they hit Outland/Northrend anyways) and LFR? Worgen/Goblin and a couple extra race/class combos?
Cata is just Wrath+, the only reason Wrath doesn’t get as much hate is because of Ulduar and ICC having big named final bosses
“Classic” was never a “vanilla-tbc-wrath” only. Classic is the name of the product to go through all xpanstions.
The fact that YOU & some others think that “Classic” is just a bundle of first 3 is your own doing.
How do people bundle Wrath with Vanilla just blows my mind. Wrath is closer to Cataclysm than to TBC by like 10 miles.
I get TBC getting lumped in with Vanilla, sure… But Wrath? What?
Wrath is literally the beginning of Retail. And a crappy version of it at best. Cataclysm gameplay, designs and features are all more thought out and with better polish
The only reason why people “think” Wrath is part of “Classic” is because of WC3. If WC3 had a Deathwing expansion, then you’d think same thing of Cataclysm
Also, did you know that the lore for DW was written like a decade earlier than Lich king’s? Now you do. .
