Thistle Tea thoughts

I can’t tell if I hate this, or if it’s genius… so maybe it’s a good change?

So hear me out.

At first glance, my reaction was “I don’t want something to eat my charges of thistle tea… without my permission”

But then I started thinking about it.
I kinda want to always be above 50% energy for Sanguine Blades anyways. So if I’m playing well, it’s never going to trigger thistle tea on it’s own. Which means I will always have my charges for when I need them.

But if I’m playing really poorly, it’s gonna auto pop my thistle tea, which will help me out in the short term.

So maybe it’s good for the skill floor… and raises the skill ceiling? Maybe genius?

I still want a giant Stanley mug with “thistle tea” written on the side to wack my enemies upside the head with.

Lmao, if empty - is a bludgeoning weapon. Approach with caution.

Ngl, this feels like a bandaid over a much bigger problem, especially for Assassination who has the worst energy regen issues out of the three. Longer fights that draw out for longer than a minute or two really show how bad it gets. If my Thistle Tea is popping on it’s own in mob packs and I have nothing for a boss in M+, I’m going to be pretty pissed

Definitely not a fan of this, on boss fights it’s gonna be annoying and you’ll definitely have to be much more conscious of how you’re spending energy. But for trash packs I highly doubt you’re ever going to really worry about it proc’ing.

bad because the best part about thistle tea is having the control to get the energy when you really need it.

Why Blizzard always change something nobody ask? While stealth bug vanish bug and they dont fix it.

It’s terrible for anyone using it. The mastery buff during its uptime usually allows you to line up cooldowns with the mastery bonus for a good chunk of extra damage.

If that change goes through, you’d just randomly get a mastery bonus. And most of the time, it will be while your CDs are down.

So, you’d have to pocket CDs for the time it pops, force it to pop and start your CD window with it, or juggle your energy just above that line until you needed it.

Depends on how and when you use it.

For Rogue specs that use Mastery, it’s one less button, however, you have to be conscious of when the Thistle Tea is going to activate and how often.

For Outlaw that use it specifically for the energy, it’s kind of bad because you lose the agency of choosing when to pop it.

Nothing is worse than killing off a mob and your energy falling below that 50% threshold and Thistle Tea burns a charge for nothing.

I hate thistle tea and I hate any talents that give resource regen. There is no proper balance for them, which is why they shouldn’t exist. Either regen is fine and the talents are useless or regen is bad and they become must haves. If it’s a must have and you don’t take it you’re essentially massively nerfed. It’s just horrible for balance.

Not a fan of how they changed it, but I do hate micromanaging energy so it’s not so awful. I think they need to just remove it and give rogues better regen, same for all other regen talents. Then maybe they will finally buff assassinations regen so they don’t feel awful after about a minute in combat stuck staring at your energy bar waiting.

If we have to keep these regen talents, then I kiinda wish they just made it a choice node between thistle tea(old) and a flat regen rate boost.

Instead of automatic trigger they should do energy over time like Blade Rush or old school Overkill where your energy regen is increased for 20 seconds on a CD.

I agree, I hate that all of the specs work around energy starvation, dumb energy RNG, and punishing good rotations with not being able to play the game for short periods. Outlaw shouldn’t even NEED Thistle Tea, we have 3-4 other different procs/talents giving us energy at any time. And it still isn’t enough to keep us going.

They’d have to gut and replace like 1/4 of Rogue’s talents, and considering they started adding just flat stats to the tree, I think they ran out of ideas for Rogue halfway through and just started throwing stuff at the wall.

Gutting those talents would require a full top-to-bottom rework of all 3 specs. We can’t even get them to fix the issues with stealth, a broken and buggy conduit from 7 years ago that they Frankensteined into the tree and have nerfed something like 6 times since its inception (it’s garbage, it never was good enough to nerf), bugs with Crackshot that have been returning periodically for a year, and various other interactions that don’t function properly or are miserable (Reprimand doesn’t work with Deathstalker, Killing spree being absolutely horrid but required for Trickster, etc.)

I do not think they have the ability to fix these things. They continue to show a lack of doing so patch after patch. It’s starting to look like this billion dollar company doesn’t have talent that can bug fix this class anymore.

Absolutely hate the changes.

I don’t have any energy issues with my openers as Sub and Sin, so apparantly we can’t use the 14% mastery buff to amp up the opener with it anymore. It wasn’t even an extra button issue either, it could easily be macro’d to something else if someone needed to.

The idea was that Blizzard nerfed energy/energy regen to add more value to haste since Outlaw has very little use for secondaries outside of Vers, but in reality that just works terribly, it still feels like Haste doesn’t do anything at all. When you get in energy ruts without Thistle Tea it still feels like you wanna rip your hair out.

A really bad change imo. Nobody asked for this and if they did it to reduce button bloat, which is commendable, there are so many better ways like the 11.0.5 CttC/SND changes which seem to indicate that SND is finally gone!

With this change you will now be forced to focus much more on your energy bar to not get under the 50% threshold, if you don’t want TT to activate by itself.
One can most certainly guarantee that there will be situations at the end of a trash pack where a last finisher gets you down to 49%…and oopsie, TT activates for nothing and a TT charge + Mastery buff is wasted.

This makes an already busy tracking spec (like Assa) just more annoying to play and takes away self-agency over your skills when and where to use. Do not do that, Blizzard.

And the major problem with this is that their design philosophy going into all those changes was “How do we make these people use ‘x’ thing” instead of “How do we make ‘x’ thing worth using”.

Instead of making haste useful by doing anything helpful (IE: A set chunk of haste percent turned into energy regen passively, Swift Slasher turned into a baseline passive because no one uses it due to the poor tree design and that would give us a good haste scale, etc), they decided to force its usage by nerfing our main cooldown and tying Haste to its scaling.

Same issue with Mastery. Our Mastery is so bad that they had to buff it ridiculously high in beta to even be half meaningful, and then went out of their way to make sure it was the ONLY thing that got reverted when they did the big scaling “buffs” last minute.

Or they could just be content with our spec just like… I dunno, using vers…? It’s a unique situation that basically zero other specs take advantage of. Let the spec be unique and stop bleaching all of the interesting parts of these class designs.

I’m sure they can fix them but it’s rogue issue so none of them care. If this was a tww problem could say I’m being dramatic. However this kind of thing has been going on for 12+ years.

Camo on my hunter has zero issues zero but couldn’t just use the coding for it because that would mean working on and fixing rogue issues and we don’t do that here.

The same thing applies to everything about the class barely anyone ever works on it and the ones that do are something.

Wish tea didnt give mastery at all tbh and they merged cold blood and marked for death into 1 talent that also increased the damage of the cold blooded ability by 20%. Also wish vigor was lower in the tree and more accessible and a 1 point node. Tea is so boring

I can’t wait to see this change also popping the consumable version of Thistle Tea eating up your Damage pot slot randomly if you happen to have them on you.

you’ll be eating a charge every 2 seconds if you’re not careful
i could live with it if it didn’t give mastery for 6 seconds
but it does lel
