To top this next season would need Tol Daggor, both Dawn of the Infinate’s and the RP rich side of Tazavesh.
I know the perfect line-up to make you hate M+ forever.
Tol Dagor, Seat of Triumvirate, Dawn of the infinite RP, King’s rest, Cathedral of Eternal Night, pre-cataclysm Temple of Atal’Hakkar, Theater of Pain and Karazhan (With cracked up versions of Maiden and Shade of Medivh, just for good measure).
Don’t really mind Kings Rest or Theater of Pain. They have some boss mechanics you really have to know but otherwise I liked them.
The one that really gets me is Court of the Stars. Non linear follow the group LT search, RP logic puzzle, bad ground telegraphs you barely notice, and a lot of camera boss with your camera getting stuck behind decorations. And for feral the RP part put you in human form with weird animation pauses which was really jarring to play.
Sanguine depths had really bad camera boss issues and MAKE IT ALL RED!!! issues with telegraphs. But I usually did good damage in that place.
Spires also had camera boss with tree and angel wings.
KR: 3rd boss damage, especially from the axe girl, was so huge that it could drop someone from 100 to 0 in just a few globals in higher keys. It had to be nerfed several times as a result. The damage from bosses across the board was also nerfed as it was insanely high (first boss had a insanely damaging dot and was annoying as well). Shade of Zul was harder than the rest of the dungeon trash combined, and the trash count was absurdly high despite being a linear dungeon, forcing you to find awkward ways to skip it.
Theater of Pain: Very tight timer, esp. during tyrannical weeks, back then. There was some RGN with the trash in the gladiator boss zone as well.
I actually liked it, but i do agree that the camera issue and the RP part were both annoying. AS for the puzzle thing, most people(myself included) simply used addons or weakauras to automatize it.
My main pet peeve with SD was the first 2 bosses, where the damage was absurdly high and unforgiving. It was considered meta to bring hunter and rogue so they could vanish/feing death castigate because the damage could potentially kill you in less than 3 seconds.
The bosses were also pretty bad damage sponges, and 2nd boss was the make or break point of the dungeon.
yeah but don’t forget, parry is a super flavorful mechanic that people love and should totally be kept in the game.
(In case it’s not clear, im being sarcastic. If any dev ever sees this, no one likes having things parried because you forgot to make an exception for a boss that has to be hit from the front for a soak/dodge mechanic)
Ya, you had to really be on your toes for that fight and sometimes the random order made things harder. Was unnecessarily hard on turret casters and self rooting healers.
Good write up.
Good thing they had a beta for this to fix/tune many of these dungeons, wait nevermind the beta only existed to give actiblizzsoft more money for the scam edition, seriously why even have betas and PTRs anymore when all you do now is fix stuff when its ‘live’ (usually weeks maybe months into it) like just call live the beta and beta/ptr the alpha at this point
I feel like if they did the changes the guy asked for this season would be a lot better for sure. It really is just some bad tuning causing issues
It’s for the free marketing, thats it.
Yes, absolutely.
Bad tuning, bad design and bugs. All 3 to several degrees.
I’m healing harder in 3-4s than I was in 20s in previous seasons or 10s in s4 dragonflight. By a long shot. Actually, healing harder than I ever remember doing in the past including grievous weeks or bursting. Stuff is really scaled out of control. By itself, it wouldn’t be so bad, but the stops change took the damage through the sky. Like, they turned the dial to 11, broke the knob off, got some vice grips, and kept turning it with that change. Now there’s no skill expression in pug groups you just have to spam stops constantly. DPS doesn’t have stops? Probably should pick a different one if possible.
The change to HP pools did nothing but attempt to mask it and failed miserably. The reason being is the healing output didn’t really increase at the same rate, so making dents in hp pools with actual heals outside of cooldowns is much more difficult or takes considerably more GCDs. You are still trying to heal bouncing health bars just like in dragonflight, except you’re doing it with weaker heals.
:Looks at previous M+ seasons:
Perhaps I treated you too harshly…
100% agreed with everything here. The vent opening safe spot can change right when the globs are coming out. That’s stupid. Everyone stacked in the spot where the vent isnt open… giant death cube stops in the middle… lol the vents you are on opened. Good luck!
Awful design.
Erudax is enough for me to never do grim batol again.
Siege of boralus is terrible. Machinists are terrible. Erudax is terrible. I’ll just farm mists for vault slots from here out.
They had like 2 devs working on Delves.
As a reminder: this was an issue in BFA as well, and this was also an issue in the Ardenweald section of De Other Side back in Shadowlands. You know… the expansion where many tanks were playing Dwarf?
I’m 100% sure it was only to stop people from doing death skips, but is one of the worst ways to stop players from doing them.
Agreed. Btw, nice writeup to highlight the issues with M+. I choose to quote your topic because it matches with pretty much every issue has right now. I was going to write one myself, but wanted to highlight and quote your own instead.
The dungeon lineup sucks, that’s the only issue.
the shrill are coming
I swear every expansion blizzard does the same thing, they nerf healers saying that the inc damage will be slowed down to match healers output. Then damage is crazy spiky so they buff healers to deal with it. Then the next expansion is announced and they tell us their plan to lower healing and make inc damage slower.
Appreciate it! I just hope my feedback reaches the right people is all; this season has so much potential to be fun but after this week I’m really not feeling it quite yet.
