This is why almost no one plays PvP

My very limited understanding of the PvP System is that as the season goes on, they artificially increase the points you get.

IMHO: Forget about points/rating now, just focus on getting Conquest gear. Once you have Conquest gear, go play a real PvP game until the last 2 weeks or so of the season, then push - being fully geared + the point inflation, you’ll get to 1800.

Your CR doesn’t matter, only your MMR.

Let me see if I understand, I mean there are no incenses for PVP and the balance is rotten, but you also want the elite sets for PVP to be given away?

Random solo queu arena…is random

Crazy
It’s like gambling with your rating

PvP is kind of a joke in a game like this anyway. PvP is supposed to be about player skill ONLY…otherwise its PvGear or PvLevel or PvDevsfavoritespec, etc.

If you win more than you lose, you will eventually go up. If you have a bad lobby and go 1-5 or 0-6, and then 4-2 your next, you won’t get much CR because now your MMR has to catch up.

Fwiw I also think 1800 is extremely achievable on any class, it may take you a bit, but you can get it with a negative w/l by the end of the season due to MMR inflation

Ive been doing bgs and asking myself that same question as i spend half the match cced, knocked back, or the other guys pressed their invincibility / insane self healing button.

Retail WoW PVP is just awful to play and awful to watch.

Less people play PVP then other game modes because PVP here is garbage and unbalanced.

I stopped playing back in whatever the first season was that SS was a thing because I heal, or prot paladin which is classified as a healer, and I would go anywhere up to 6 wins and gain no points because it compares me to the other healer, or in my case prot paladin, and in some games I would be much higher rated then them so the game didn’t recognise me as deserving points.

On the flip side it mean that I could also go 5/6 and lose points, and because I am the ‘healer’ there was almost nothing I could do if there was someone out of their league and getting thumped, I just had to accept that most of the game was out of my control.

And because I play prot and we are classed as a healer even though we are a tank, I could only go against other prots, and that meant I would have a DPS queue time with the added stresses of being the healer even though I didn’t choose to be a healer.

No thanks.

most people dont even get to see rated because pvp in general is bad.

If they just changed this pvp would be so much more enjoyable.
You should never lose points.
Win/lose streak, and the skill of who you won against should not effect points earned.
You should always gain a nice amount of points every win.

The explanatiom is simple you lose the match you lose points.

The reason you get so little when you win is because you were on a losing streak and your mmr and cr are different or you were placed in a low mmr game (because you lost so much).

Ince your mmr and cr are close to equal you win and lose almost the same amount of points.

Healers are competing against eachother over competing with other dps. A person going 0-6 punishes everyone.

One, last I recall, there are no incenses to be earned from PvP, unless they recently added some kind of toy or transmog I didn’t see.

Second, do you think vicious war mounts are just given away? I don’t see an issue with wanting to get past sets right now, just for a currency.

Even this solution outlined by Spagooter works for both current elite sets and past elite sets:

The point is that every other mog is farmable/currently earnable (with exception of holiday-only mogs or mogs literally removed from the game), ASIDE from elite PvP ones, which have just been recolors of Mythic raid sets for a while. I still think even unique-model-from-PvE sets should be put on a vendor, too.

If you only need over 1k cr to start farming the seasonal mount (which you don’t even need to be too skilled to get, just don’t dip under 1k and you’re fine for farming %), why can’t it be the same for elite sets? Reminder that every single reward from PvP, aside from conquest and honor, is purely cosmetic.

I’d understand not wanting gladiator mounts or something to be re-obtainable, you need to be genuinely weighing 600 lbs skilled to earn that.

Then again, there’s also an argument that gladiator mounts are the equivalent to PvE’s mythic raid mounts, and THOSE are still obtainable, though rare past the expansion they were introduced. However, I am not arguing for Blizzard to make past gladiator mounts obtainable, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they introduced the “gladiator’s saddle” at some point to make it so you’re able to buy past glad mounts if you keep getting 50 wins over 2400 over and over or something LOL.

No one plays it because Classic PvP is miles better.

How common is going 0-6? Wouldn’t that suggest that the rating isn’t really doing its job?

it has its upsides.

I got my first retail WG last night since I left in DF last night.

Coming from cata of late…I was going damn this place is different.

Horde had 39 people at match start. I only see fuller horde teams on weekends around 1100 my time in cata. A faerlina pvp guild floods a premade sometimes around that time. Oddly enough, its actually fun when they do that. Its the one time many don’t complain about premades.

WG is actually a contest then. Rest of the week, its play with the 8 raid bosses with tenacity stacking.

And I got to see ye old SR zerg fight. I’ve not seen that since Wrath redo. It was missed. Lots of time to test out petless MM hunter in pvp there.

Now seething shores was seen too. Being away has not changed my stance on that place. even with winning it, I did not like being there really.

PvP has been under-incentivized, too seldom balanced, and carelessly stagnating since WoD (though some would claim, since TBC or even Vanilla). I refer to the modern formats of rated arena and battlegrounds, which have been hurt by Mythic+ class design (Micro-CCs, 1000 pets, modifier one-shots) seeping into PvP and making balancing harder as time goes on. I’d add Garrisons, Solo Queues, and yes – every Classic release to the list of reasons for PvP’s decline (and overall, anything splintering the game and discouraging players from networking and creating virtual life arcs in an MMO will be counter-productive long-term).

Which one.

Cata has WG and TB that are basically gimme wins for alliance. when 10 horde show up we go…damn, that is unusual. we expect like 6.

IOC is IOC…50/50 chance of crap show in cata or retail. Ghost capping in AB…that tradition has lived on since 2005 and will for years to come!

Anniv…lets play the fun game of is AV even pvp? Turtles are a debate. Facerollng rotations on a pinch point is technically pvp since against a player. its just, imo, low quality pvp.

anniv hasn’t gotten AB yet to see how bad “let them win” gets. SoD had that fun already. Anniv awaits its turn.

Era era…is eternal era players r16’ing their 20th alt…in AV, again.

I have way more fun in Retail PvP, so that’s the version I stuck with.

People have min-maxxed the fun out of Classic PvP.

Last time I was there in a WSG, we had people running out of bounds with the flag, and spent about 40 minutes running around with it.

At that point, I just left the battleground.

Retail at least has time limits and stuff, in addition to rated PvP.

I have limited time, not going to spend all of it trying to catch some Classic sweat that enjoys exploits.

Also, folks over there will complain every time, if you don’t do the graveyard jump skip trick and clear the fence behind it.

Yeah, as if that’s how the map was supposed to be played. -_- That cliff is there for a reason.

At least Retail has the superior map.
