Has anyone else come across this message before?
When trying to equip a shield (elemental shaman) it tells me “this is not your preferred type of armor”.
I know I’m new to shaman, and haven’t played this toon much, but her weapon preference is clearly marked “mace, dagger, and shield.” And she has a bunch of abilities that enhance her shield, so…
But when I try to equip the Residual memories item, I get that message.
This is actually the 2nd time I’ve gotten that message for an item that is very obviously for my spec. I think I also got it when equip[ping a shield for a paladin.

Just saw that for the first time as well on my resto shaman, equipping the Dalaran Defender’s Aegis shield with intellect …

Yep. Blizzard definitely misflagged shields somehow. It doesn’t prevent you from equipping it though, just a weird incorrect warning.

I see it on toons that can equip but it isn’t the armor type (like non plate on plate toons).
If you are enhance, it may not like the shield since enhance should never be using one. Otherwise it’s probably just a bug since ele and resto both would use it normally.

The idea is supposed to be a warning with the new transmog collection rules that while you can bind the item to your warband to learn the appearance, the item is not actually appropriate for your class, such as going to learn a cloth appearance on a rogue or something.
If you’re getting this with shields on a shaman, something must be borked with Blizzard’s tagging. Don’t worry about it.

Not just Shaman, but both Prot Pallies and Prot Warriors. I also got that message trying to equip a two-hander to my Frost DK.

I think I’ve got this message twice now, and I think it was a shield both times. Might be some sort of bug. I just came here when I got the message trying to equip a shield on my elemental shaman. I guess we just ignore it.
Blizzard don’t break everything when releasing a new patch challenge (impossible).

Yes. My Paladin’s have both seen this one. Doesn’t make any sense.
The game passive aggressively telling you that you’re a ranged class with a shield on and that’s silly.

I just received this message when trying to equip the shield for my proc pally. For those equipping it anyway, do you still receive the stats on the shield?
I just got this on a Holy Paladin. Tried to equip an Expeditionary Bulwark of the Aurora (Upgrade and collect appearance) and got the warning message. This is not your preferred armor type. Huh?
I went ahead and ignored the idiotic Blizzard error and equipped it anyway. Got the upgraded stats and collected the appearance.

I thought this was only related to the memory gear from the pre-expansion event,
But apparently, it still happens out in the “real world.”
my Prot Paladin got a shield as a quest reward, and when I tried to equip it got the “not your prettered type of armor” message again!
So there’s definitely SOME issue with shields.
Surprised I’m not finding more threads on this. Hope Blizz addresses.
