why break something that barely anyone is using if it might break something that MANY people are using? Unless they can break it without breaking any other addon, then i’m ok with it
this has been discussed repeatedly. The add on detects at minimum 200yrds away, through walls and doors, over hills, through trees. With networking it ranges over 1100yrds at least, and possible longer.
for something that has very few percentage of people that use it, there sure are a lot of the sky is falling posts if it where to be removed.
did it ever occur to you that something weird happened, someone wondered why it happened, they went searching for an answer and saw spy and immediately blamed that? you can’t prove that someone is using an addon
lets do some math here, let’s assume every download is a user (they’re not equal but, whatever) and round it to 100k downloads.
Let’s also assume there’s 2 million players, cause that’s your number.
That means that 5% of the playerbase uses the addon. That’s extremely low.

For the last time this is not a cheat.
It does NOT interfere with anyone playing their class.
It’s sole purpose is to make you aware that a hostile has used an ability somewhere near you.
Rogues especially are upset with this because they don’t want an addon to alert you to their presence. They want the EXTRA damage they can get if they catch you totally unaware.
While a player may have rolled a rogue for precisely this reason, there is no rule that currently exists that prohibits an addon from making someone aware that a hostile is 200 meters or less away. It’s here and it’s not going anywhere no matter how much they complain.
I actually wish I knew who created it so I could donate to future developments.

I understand why you don’t like it. I do like it for those exact same reasons. But liking or disliking something doesn’t make it right or wrong.
If it broke any of the TOS or COC rules, then it would be a cheat. Since it doesn’t, it’s not.

Even if i do get into PvP, I wouldn’t need it cause it’s my choice to not have it. Call it gimping all you want, it’s still making a choice.

Isn’t this an RPG? Numbers are sort of it’s thing, what’s wrong with seeing more numbers? I never understood that.

you think addons are why we are crushing end game right now? no its cause blizzard gave us the buffed patch where all classes and gear are buffed compared to the original trash drops you got allowing us to ignore mechanics completely cause we do too much dps. the only way you are going to be able to do this “hard mode” is raid half naked with 20 people
If you disable Spy, you need to disable the many addons that do the same thing but better.
So this means Health Bar addon, Casting bar addon, Cast time of those casts on enemies, Auto Swing Timers, Your Cooldown Timers, Enemy Cooldown Timers, Deadly Boss mods and other PvE addons, Healbot, Decursive…
^ To be against Spy and not want to immediately get rid of EVERY SINGLE ONE of those is Hypocritical.
Not what I mean, most ways to break Spy would break those, and I don’t want that
WUT? Nearly 700K downloads is quite a few, and that’s the classic version.
I know not everyone who downloaded is still using it, but the sort of people who use Spy (players like me) are the same who’re typically max level and tend to be on a PvP server.
Typically players like myself are not going anywhere and still use Spy.
I would wager most of the people who downloaded are both still using it and active in PvP.
If this add-on was not a problem then there wouldn’t be this many people complaining.
How is it a “surprise” attack if you are “ready for me?”
This would disable a specific part of Spy, not the entirety of it. Spy does more than just parse the log and make note of enemy players.
It could expand upon what it already has if it wanted to. It could use a number of additional methods to replace part of what was lost. It could check your mouseover’s target. It could check your mouseover’s target’s target. It could check your raid members’ target. It could use the coordinates it sends and then check the difference between you and the sender to then determine if it should generate the buttons that it does. It doesn’t really need these features at the moment, because of the amount of spell spam that combat log provides.
