This game is way better than FF14

Like chrono trigger?

I got half way and gave up, i dont get why that game is hailed as the greatest rpg to ever exist.

Breath of the wild to me smokes chrono in terms of amazing story.

I’ve been playing RPGs as my main genre of entertainment since the 90’s “mate”.

Projared did a really convincing video that gave it a huge signal boost in the RPG circles, it’s a good game, a seminal RPG even, but people still manage to overstate it

FFXIV is a great game.

So is WoW.

This “us versus them” mentality needs to stop.

It’s beyond old.

There is a difference between a good amount of dialog and too much.
ffxiv has WAAAAAAY too much.
Thus why I called it a clicking simulator of dialog boxes.
When is there combat? When is there anything else other than clicking through hours upon hours of text?

I like reading, but you honestly can’t be defending that nonsense.

You clearly haven’t played the game at all if you’re making this nonsensical statement.

There’s just as much reading as WoW has. The only difference is… the entire player base doesn’t skip all of it in FFXIV… because the story is great.

And there is MUCH more voice acted content than WoW.

If that’s not your thing, then that’s fine… but don’t claim what is obviously false to anyone that has played FFXIV for more than 1-2 hours.

I agree with you when it comes to ARR, and so did the developers. Dunno if you’ve played since then, or knew, but in 5.3 they actually cut some pretty substantial chunks out of ARR. Once you start getting into Heavensward though, is largely story relevant or setting up things to pay off in the future.

ARR is a slog, even with it being cut down, but it sets up everything in the story that follows. A lot of what pays off in later xpacs, doesn’t work without the set up.

I can defend it, gladly. Because what you want is a combat simulator. You want to hit stuff, you want to watch virtual monsters die. You do not care about story…and that’s perfectly ok. I LOVED FFXIV’s story, I’m all caught up on it to the latest patch and its a masterful piece of work unlike anything in recent history, except maybe God of War series.

Your better off with wow where the story is “meh” and you get sent to bash stuff in every other quest sacrificing any good story in the process. Leave the rest of us to enjoy a beautiful and rich story that we can enjoy.

That’s kinda my issue with ARR. The story might pay off later, but it just takes sooooo long. I tried to play the “right way” but I felt like the gameplay was a huge disservice to the story. I’m not someone who likes to read books (I like visual stimulus), so it was really hard after I hit level 20 to just do murder hobo quests with only 2 spells to really utilize, while feeling like the on-screen text with non-animated cutscenes/dialogue immersion taking up half of my actual game time.

let me offer you a suggestion. Skip it. Skip the entire story of ARR, you can get into Heavensward on a bare minimum of information, and be fine. Then when you catch up to the current story, go back and play ARR through New Game+ in small easy to digest chunks, to fill in any gaps you might be missing.

I think I got to level 50 after just powering through it all. Playing a BLM because enemy health go boom, but I was really looking forward to trying Astrologian. Couldnt find the place to switch to that job, and just kinda felt fed up at that point.

Yeah, Astrologian, Dark Knight, and Machinist are all hardlocked behind you getting to Heavensward in the story, because they are unlocked in Ishgard, fortunately, SE learned from that mistake and all jobs starting Stormblood are unlocked in the 3 starting cities.

to hijack the topic for a second, is it technically possible for me to swap to AST now?

People need to do this with every game ever. Stop hopping to another game and expecting to be “previous game 2.0”…it isn’t One of the reasons why I see people rage from soulsborne to Sekiro or Sekiro to soulsborne or soulsborne to Nioh series. Yes they share difficulty of being easily killed but that’s it. Same with wow and FFXIV and ESO, etc.

There is a point in the story that sends you into Ishgard, and until you get to that quest you can’t swap to them because you have to unlock them 1st and their unlock quests are in Ishgard.

Having played both to death over the last few years, both have their positives and negatives.

FFXIV Positives

  • A long-term storytelling that feels like it was planned years in advance
  • A game system that gives people the tools to do mechanics in raids/dungeons/etc without needing additional addons
  • Characters feel like a part of the world, not the tool to be used to tell a story
  • A community that embraces new players and goes out of their way to help them
  • Starting with Shadowbringers, a new system that allows running dungeons with NPCs if you don’t want to or can’t find a group
  • Gearing systems that give you a change to gear no matter what, instead of waiting on RNG
  • Player and Guild housing
  • The Gold Saucer, a place with mini-games and challenges that have nothing to do with anything but to be there to be fun
  • Some of the best transmog ever
  • A higher resolution and graphical style that doesn’t tax your PC
  • Console accessibility
  • Flying is available in every expansion, but you have to earn it through world exploration

FFXIV Negatives

  • You are forced to play the story from start to finish, no matter how many characters you make.
  • Alt leveling your classes is really tough as there are not enough quests around to quest through all classes, leaving dungeon grinding the main option to level alt classes
  • The bag system is too small with no ways to increase it, and gear storage in impossible.
  • A heavy reliance on the cash shop with many mounts and gear being available through there only
  • Using the UK as its international transaction base… Those Pound to Aussie Dollar conversions is hurting my wallet.
  • The guild community isn’t as active as WoW as it’s not really needed till endgame
  • Too many one-shot mechanics in raids.

WoW Positives

  • Gameplay is smooth and evolves over leveling
  • LFD and LFR are simple and easy to use
  • Gearing is straightforward and not class reliant
  • WoW Classic is a thing
  • The best cinematic moments in gaming (Along with an amazing CGI Cinematics Team)

WoW Negatives

  • Too much reliance on Reputation grinding
  • Too many features and gear locked behind progression walls
  • Mythic+ and Key running
  • The community is toxic
  • Guilds are more about using Discord than the game to communicate
  • The graphics engine is outdated, same with the style and animation
  • Factions are outdated
  • PvP relies too heavily on “us vs them”

These are just some examples of the good and bad of both games. The amount of tribalism shown around both games, or in gaming in general, is something that has existed for a long time and will keep happening because as a species, we have become so enclosed in our own echo chambers that we have forgotten what it was like to have friendly debates with each other with the outcome being: Agree to disagree.

Actually, this system has been added to all ARR dungeons and about half of the HW dungeons. In 6.3 the rest of the HW dungeons will have this system added and in 6.4/6.5 the Stormblood Dungeons will have it.

So other than trial fights players will be able to play the entire story solo.

Can also be a trap. While not always on for various reason, the game does have auto demolition which means when it’s on if you don’t enter your house once every 45 days you will lose your house, of which there are no where near enough to go around. So if you ever decide to take a break from FFXIV and want to come back and have a house, you’ll be forced to keep subbed so you can log in and keep your house.

Depends on what you’re hoarding but to clarify:

  • Your main bag has 140 slots, which I believe is roughly equivalent to how much bag space you can have on any character in wow with the biggest bags.
  • You also get a separate smaller bag for each gear slot. 50 slots for weapons and rings, and 35 for all other slots.
  • For Free you get 2 retainers, each of which have inventories of 175 slots. You can have up to 10 retainers, but anything above the free ones costs an additional $2 per month.
  • You also get a chocobo saddle bag which gives you an additional 70 slots.
  • You also have a glamour dresser which can hold up to 800 pieces of gear.
  • There is also an armoire which can store most seasonal and artifact gear.

So the amount of inventory you have in FFXIV is not a small amount, depending on how and what you hoard.

The gear and mounts available on the cash shop have the same level of effort put into them as items obtainable in game. So you won’t feel cheated by not spending money on the shop.

Shadowbringers is good. Endwalker has severe pacing issues with high highs and low lows ending up being a rushed story arc and I found it quite underwhelming in comparison.

Garlemald got done dirty and I’m very disappointed in the writers for just giving up.

They really asspulled a lot of nonsense in Endwalker that ultimately leaves you with more questions then answers.

Hildibrand is still an amazing questline that has never disappointed me once however and I think it is leagues better then anything the main story has to offer.

Agreed. Should have really been 2 xpacs.
