Dropping a new player on a 120 is crazy – they should really level to 20 (solo) first to learn 80% of what they need to know. Then they might be able to jump up.

This is my take on it. I let my niece goof around a little in WoW when she was eight years old (I might add: With the chats disabled) and she was so distracted every direction and generally unfocused that she “couldn’t figure it out”. Well… Oddly, when it became clear I was not going to spoon feed her answers, she started to think about it herself and was able to figure it out.
This doesn’t mean I didn’t give her tips and hints – and also help her bypass an early bugged quest. But children are distractable, frequently have the attention span of a goldfish, and often complain about not understanding something because they’ve long figured out someone will just do it for them if they say they don’t get it… That does NOT make it “too hard”, it simply makes it “not an ideal game for a seven year old”.
I might also add if you put ANYONE AT ALL who has never touched the game onto a full lv120 character and expect them to pick it up from there, you’re out of your mind. The leveling process is there for a reason. So players can make mistakes and figure out the game.
Though, Hellraiser, I have to comment… Seven year olds sure as heck CAN use their brains, but they’ve figured out no one expects them to use their brains so they don’t. If you expect a child to use their brain, they will and they’ll be very good at it.
