Thinking of renting this computer

It’s a Predator Orion 3000 Gaming Desktop. Sadly, the computer I am currently using is worse than a George Forman Grill, and I get FPS issues while playing WoW with all the settings turned on low. So anyways, here in Australia, there is this company where they rent out products and pay only $1 at the end of the rental period to keep the product for good. The Desktop I am looking at has pretty decent specs on it, which is:

  • Intel Intel Core i7-8700 Processor @3.2GHz
  • 8GB DDR4 Ram
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB
  • 2TB HDD
  • Windows 10

Now since I can’t afford to buy a gaming computer straight up, because of rent, bills, etc, this is only like around $22 a week over 36 months, should I go for it or try and save up the money and buy a nice gaming computer.

No. Never. Good grief…no.

$22.00 a week for 3 years amounts to over $3,000.00. That computer is not worth even half of that.

No. Run for the hills.

I’m going to give you a piece of advice that if taken, will benefit you for the rest of your life. If you can not afford to buy something outright, you can’t afford it.

The one exception would be buying a house, you can safely mortgage that because you would be spending that money on rent somewhere anyway.

$3000 for an $800 computer, yeah that sounds like a deal to me!

Don’t do this. It’s a terrible idea. Put some money aside each month.

Stay faaaaaaar away from things like this.

Will serve you incredibly well in the future.

It was only a suggestion though. By the end of every week, I only have like around $40 left over, after paying bills and rent, doing shopping and everything else.

And rental computers does charge a lot of interest as well.

If you put away $15-$20 a week for a year, you can buy a comparable (maybe better computer) and own it outright. If you can save all $40 every week, then you will only have to wait six months.

I actually think Cyberpower has some computers that are close in power for $500 on Amazon.

Well, thanks for the feedback guys. I might take up on the advice and not go for it.

save money and build your own. and if you must go with a prebuilt, at least get one with better stats. you can do a lot better for the amount of money you’ll be spending.

Go to Best Buy. Sign up for their credit card. Buy a computer you feel comfortable affording. They’ll offer you points or no interest for a year (longer if you spend more, but I recommend not doing that). Divide the payment up for that entire year and set that as your monthly payment. I’ve done this for x2 TVs, washer/dryer, monitor, and much more. I’ve paid 0 interest to date.

Your other option if you have fast internet is to look into shadow tech. $30/mo gets you access to a cloud gaming machine. Worth it if you don’t want to spend $800+ on a proper gaming system especially if you don’t play constantly. You can always cancel before going on vacation, or whatever.

It’ll also be a toaster by the time she’s done paying.

Agreed with this poster.

You’re falling into a money trap. It’s suppose to sound enticing to the uninformed to bait you into buying it.

I’d take the advice of some others, and put away the money you would have otherwise spent aside, then use that money to purchase a better system when the time comes. Stop by https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/c/off-topic/games-gaming-hardware when the time comes once you have saved enough.

You’d get way more for your money if you can hold out for a bit.

God no, at that price you are looking at over $3,500 after 36 months. You could buy a couple gaming PCs for that much.

WOW’s TOU actually forbids this.

Listen to what these people are telling you. Don’t rent this pc. Save your money and build your own… do you know what you could build for $3,000? A liquid cooled monster beast that will eat every game your throw at it.

Please please please don’t rent this pc. Fight the impulse and make the smart decision. You’ll be happier in the long run.

Best answer…true story. That’s what I am doing right now. Zero interest…just don’t miss a payment. The devil is in the details.

You’re not wrong.

Buying > Renting
I would suggest almost always avoiding renting things. you are just getting robbed slowly over time and don’t have the chance to gain anything.

I hate breaking hearts  I hope your finances improve for you very soon.

Honestly now a days you can keep a pretty solid computer for a couple hundred dollars, if you are willing to build it yourself. And with the wealth of do it yourself computer guides on youtube, it is pretty easy to do for even a first time builder.
