Things That Addons Do That You Wish The Base UI Did

I’ll start with a couple of examples.

  1. I wish the game color coded damage done based on type. In other words, physical can remain yellow, frost damage would be light blue, chaos damage purple, so on and so forth - Nameplate Scrolling Combat Text is the addon which does this.
  2. I wish the game would bring all the bags into one big bag, as opposed to five small bags. Obviously, Bagnon does this.
  3. I wish the game would color code cast bars according to spell school. Same deal as above. Yellow can still be physical, purple for shadow damage, blue for frost, so on and so forth. Quartz does this.

The point behind this thread is not to make it seem like Blizzard should be incorporating addons into the game as a baseline thing but just illustrate things that people might find intuitive. Personally, I think color coding cast bars and damage numbers is a basic thing that should have been done a long time ago, which is evidenced by the fact that Diablo has this as a basic feature. Most games I can think of have this as a basic feature.

What else do you think the basic UI should do that addons wind up taking care of for you?

Movable/resizable action bars.

Mouseover targeting on party frames for healing, too. So helpful!

God there are a hundred things but I just can’t think of them right now.

Agree with Wild on moveable actionbars though, and hidden especially.

I personally don’t use addons much so I’ve forgotten so much of the functionality.

Probably better DoT tracking though. Base UI is like uber hard mode if you want to optimally play some DoT classes.

  • Map co-ords.
  • Buff / debuff bars that you can physically see move from 100% down to 0%. Sorta like how your health bar goes down.
  • Something like Bartender that lets you move everything around.
  • Being able to open all mail at once instead of clicking on each one.

The base UI does this now, actually.

Ah, didn’t know that. I’m still using a mod to do it.

MoveAnything lets me move every aspect of the U.I. Even things that are missed by standard UI overhauls.

Full customization of the UI is something other MMOs did I wish WoW did.

A “hover over action button, press keybind” system like bartender uses, rather than having to go into the keybinds submenu and try to figure out which slot in which bar you’re trying to keybind.

More intuitive keybinding would be a blessing.

I agree with that. I’ve been going through the beta with rebinding the bars the old fashioned way, and it’s fairly nightmarish when it wants to be.

Every time I go to the PTR I’m reminded of how awful Blizzard’s keybinding system is.

I wish the entire UI was movable and customizable (scalable, visibility options, etc). Currently having to use a suite of addons just to adjust all my bars, menus, maps, etc…

I wish the chat box was more modern (just started using the glass addon and this has been fantastic)

Map needs to be better.
Bag ui is an embarrassment.

I would like Tom Tom to be part of the base game. Like at the map ui, you can create and save custom waypoints and have the area you want to go marked, then you’ll have a pointer showing you the direction once you enter the zone.

Features from Altoholic. Being able to mouse over an item to see if its on another character or knowing your gold total is such a time saver. Plus many other features it has.

I love that mod. The way point system is soooooo good.

For buffs and debuffs, showing on the tooltip who gave you that buff or debuff. Useful if you want to know who cast Bloodlust while the boss was in its immune-to-damage phase.

The chat filter of BadBoy_CCleaner should 100% be integrated. Imagine if everyone could open their interface settings and type in a word or phrase, let’s say “WTS M+15” and from then on any message in chat containing that string would be filtered out. I feel like this would help players that want things like boost sales removed from their chat. I’ve personally used BadBoy since WoD and it has over 12.6m downloads on curse so there’s a definite audience for it.

Well since we’re here and all  BNet account wide savedvariables would be a wonderful luxury lol.

Pretty sure map pinging is a feature of shadowlands

All in one, filterable bag screen a la Arkinventory/bagnon etc
That’s really all I care about.

We already have this with basic mouseover macro

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover, help, nodead] spellname
