Things right click reporting will get you muted for:

Why not?

We have a ignore system. Make the case why they shouldn’t? Because it offends you?

heh. people think it wont affect them personally so somehow its ok when someone unfairly gets punished .

good luck with that guys.

why not? oh wow, so people should be free to say whatever they want , whenever they want no matter what?

Why is is always the other person who has to make a change? Why can’t the first person exercise some tact to begin with?

It is entirely possible for both to be a solution, some people need to learn to be less sensitive and others need to learn tact.

Except its not and its insane to try that approach. Everyone has a different bar and finds different things offensive. On the other hand everyone has access to ignore. You can never make global rules that everyone will like.

You don’t really have a answer for why not do you?

If you want Blizzard to change their rules, make a thread suggesting that. I wouldn’t mind, what people say doesn’t offend me so much as their intent. I personally restrict myself very little in-game; I probably remove less than 10 words from my vocabulary and I’ve never been banned or silenced for anything in-game.

If you wanna talk about the forums, ho boy. I’ve had some run-ins with the Blizzard law here. I have to restrict myself quite heavily around here.

Might want to read the part where blizz takes into account what is being reported to determine acceptable behavior. Players do have influence on that.
I’m not running in that circle with you again. Regardless of our views on a temporary squelch being a punishment or not. That is what is used.
Sorry you’re inconvenienced but your inconvenience may help blizz rid the game of people abusing the RCR.

Some may want the QoL convenience of being able to say any extreme view they want with no repercussions but some don’t want that trash messing with their gaming/forum experiences.
Breaking immersion because Johnnyedgelord feels the need to bring his real world issues into the magical land of Azeroth where we are but humble adventurers seeking escape from from all that non sense.

LOl ok, so you just want to be able to say whatever you want, whenever you want no matter what, just because you think you should be able too, and everyone just has to deal with it? Rather than , i dunno exercising some tact once in awhile.

and everyone has access to self control when it comes to what comes out of their mouths too.

true, good thing I was not suggesting any, just something that is a solution at the most basic level, people need to learn to be less sensitive and others need to learn tact.

I’ve seen the complaints in retail, and when the person whining posts what they were silenced for it always just strikes me as, oh yeah maybe you shouldn’t have said that

I took a stroll over to the general and customer support forums for retail (an environment that has actually been using this report system for a while) and Imagine my shock when I didn’t see a single thread about reporting and how its abused.

I couldn’t believe my eyes, so I went through hundreds of more and couldn’t find a single one. Could the fear mongers on the classic forums be wrong?

The answer was a resounding yes.

You can’t even provide realistic examples of how this system would be abused, and when we look at real world counterparts, it’s simply not happening. This topic has already been decided.

It’s in the game, it’s good for the community, get over it. If you aren’t planning on being a massive jerk then you have nothing to worry about.

I have a nice list of links from the old forums of people whining on the CS forums about being unfairly silenced, and a Blue stepping in, showing it was deserved.

it’s my assessment too, where are all the complaints of abuse? Hell, when a server crashes and player get dumped, they flood the CS forums with complaints, and they cannot go with a week with someone whining about abuse of the Vote to Kick system.

You haven’t said anything in this post… you restate what I said that people should be free to say what they want (Some extreme exceptions still apply of course).

Your counter argument is nonsensical. It only works if everyone has identical values and ideologies otherwise its a unsustainable spiral to the bottom of the censorship heap. Simply make a endless ignorelist for those who wish to close themselves off from other people rather then try to close of people.

Player providing “feedback” as to what they find acceptable by using the report system is vastly different than players imposing punishment themselves.

Sorry you might find yourself inconvenienced if Blizzard decides to separate the player imposed punishment from the right click report system, but your inconvenience would help rid the game of the abuse of the right click report system.

a solution at the most basic level, people need to learn to be less sensitive and others need to learn tact.

fact is the only things that should be punished is real life threats and targeted harassment.

those can be a number of different things but are the only things that even can not be “ignored” by the ignore system in game.

I never heard anyone refer to Deadmines as “Van Cleef” in Vanilla, because you keep seeing it called Deadmines in quests, and don’t know who the final boss even is, initially. I saw Defias Mines a bit, but DM was always DM until Dire Maul came out, then it was DM for Alliance and Deadmines for Horde.

Only thing it will effect for me is what I see in chat, the frequency, and how extreme it is.
I keep most of my chat within guild, private groups, and discord. I’m not the one worried about being inconvenienced by the Chat Squelch Mafia.
If I am falsely squelched I’ll appeal and go right back to saying “LF1M healer Scholo. No reserves. Don’t be an edgelord pls. Then gtg.” Maybe it’s that next time that gets the Squelch Mafia banned.
Then I did my part. /shrug

Don’t be an edgelord pls.

Damn. I’m going to have to learn all the chat filter avoiding terms that the ‘kiddies’ use again. It was hard enough at 25, reading Barrens Chat for useful information. Now I’m going to have to start reading it again and boggle at how ‘language’ (in the loosest sense) has changed in another 15 years.

acronyms are the new big thing.

That’s not a fact, that’s an opinion.
