You’re kind of arguing whether if a tree hits the ground and no one hears it, does it make a sound. You might have noticed that, and I’m sure you weren’t the only one. I don’t recall anyone mentioning that as a thing though, and people got heated at people zombified in the capitals.
If that was all a charade, no one should have cared either way. I’m not even saying you’re wrong, just that if people felt they were causing destruction, and other people agreed, then whether they were or not might just be immaterial. The event worked as intended even if behind the scenes it may have been wonky, in short.
I don’t think that’s what Brewa was drawing attention to. What they seemed concerned about is that lowbie questzones would be effectively shut down because the infection would spread throughout, turn the entire area hostile, and there’s nothing the leveling characters can do about it.
EDIT: This kind of an event may be fun for folk dedicated to PvP, but it leaves a sour taste for folk coming back or starting fresh. And WoW could definitely use new and returning blood.

To be fair there is also a not insignificant PvE element to this. A good chunk of the zombies, especially in less populated cities, are NPCs and not players.
and even on PvE servers, hostile mobs never needed permission to attack you if you got too close.

I won’t apologize for having fun. We get a purge type event maybe once every 2 or 3 expansions if we are lucky. I guess I just don’t have a heart. But I’m ready for the drums of war to beat and the zombie invasion comes.
If you expect me to give up I won’t. This will never end because I want more, give me more.

Not even close to warmode. Ghouls are crazy weak and slow.

I’m not saying ‘stop having fun’. I’m saying ‘have fun with people that also want to have fun’. That’s it. Just a toggle to exempt myself and other folk of a mind to not have to deal with it.
I’m not disagreeing, and actually I would agree with you that the infestations probably should’ve been kept to capitals. It’s just whether you can take a break from your routine for a week I guess. I mean a few weeks ago the main AH didn’t work because of the dance party, but I managed even though not going where I always go was plenty annoying.
I’m not saying the event isn’t disruptive, just that some of us don’t mind the disruption. My condolences if you aren’t one of those people.
No kidding, a priest can shield a zombie off with just a bubble spam. It’d take an entire horde to take one down. Our damage sucks.
I eventually run out of mana, and it’s RNG if I get infected.
They could alter it so your attack do X% damage to zombie’s and they do X% to you. make it so 1 zombie can’t rely take on 1 player would require a group of them. and put an Argent dawn guy in every quest hub.
Could also make Zombie kills give a half decent amount of xp as an alternate way to level in the pre patch like the legion invasion. I bet with that Idea not many would complain if they getting good XP out of it.
Wouldn’t work. You need zombies and not zombies for these types of events. Like it or hate it you are part of the fodder for the zombies. Without you people there would be no event. Everyone would be zombies and have nobody to attack.

Wait is this going to be pvp or pve event?
Both
There is PvE things to do, but there is also the Scourge Invasion of the PvP event. It’s a bit of a replica of the WoTLK event.
I mean, if I unsub for the period, there’s literally zero difference. I won’t be there to infect just as if I toggled to ‘opt-out’ of the event. It’s the same to me, I don’t get to play because I can’t not get infected and have to deal with the constant and unwanted irritation.
Go to a safe space? It sounds like anything that requires a loading screen makes you go back to normal.
The problem is infection. As I understand it, ghoul attacks have a % chance to infect you. Multiply their numbers by a couple magnitudes, and the probability of getting infected approaches 100%. Since I’m a mage, I don’t have a disease cleanse, so I’m kinda boned if I get hit and I fail the dice rolls.
Part of the inconvenience helps build animosity toward the antagonist of the expansion. The shared experience helps with world building too. Seems pretty cool
It’s definitely NOT as bad as you are making it out to be. I played in the wotlk event. The only people that really took issue were Auction House bots. Players that stayed in the AH for hours and hours. If you go out questing, raiding, dungeons… it’s a non issue.

One sign that its going to be a mess is looking at all the trolls come out and go “Yes! People will be displeased!”
When Trolls are happy … its not a good sign.

Then, again, I ask what the point of unrestricted infection is. If I just portal away, I can’t do what I went to do. The disease has no consequence because I hit a load screen. I am now trapped in a spot and can’t leave and might as well log.
This can all go away if it respects War Mode toggles.
