They are ruining marksmanship because of M+ players

Plenty of people against the change dont even play MM if you check alts.

They do play, just not the mode of game you want

Just pointing out the obvious that even since the beginning of WoW pets were nothing more than a minor buff to the Marksman and Ranged Survival hunter. It was more advantageous to put them on passive and sit along side of you and macro a pet ability for a slight (sub 1%) dps increase than to try send the pet to engage a target.

Pets have always been some minor sort of hindrance to Hunters in some form. Whether it was a lack of control from the hunter to pathing issues, to just flat AI stupidity. Players adjusted to those issues better than others. The current designs of BM and SV Hunters have more dps interactions with their pet. MM has 0 interaction with their pet on a damage output basis other than pet lust and raw dps from the pet attacks. It makes sense to move the MM spec away from the pet and balance the dps around the MM spec tree. The first iteration of this experiment is going to fail, look how long it took them to make MSV a competitive option. Who knows, maybe there is an iteration of these changes that has a cosmetic pet from our stable at our side. You just have to let them try new things in order to get it right. Change is going to happen no matter how many forum posts object to it.

MC/BWL were not consider High-Tier, they were the only Tier so a much larger part of the player base was able to experience them. Most people did not get “blackballed” in 2005 due to a lack of a profession except maybe First Aid was a requirement for some guilds/groups.

Not quite - the issues back then were that pets were pretty buggy in Vanilla and routinely caused wipes or other problems. The buff from the howl allowed the pet to be useful to the group without it causing other issues.

BM hunters were not allowed in raids at all, and SV was a meme that worked only in PvP.

That is the advantageous part.

BM didn’t raid because pet’s are getting melted by AOE and positioning before those changes were implemented. SV had it’s own set of problems but the pet situation was the same. SV didn’t shine until Naxx Gear Agility Levels then smoked MM in PvE.

Your reply made it seem like the damage was essentially zil - that wasn’t the issue nearly as much as their bad pet AI.

That was corrected with TBC and was the first time BM made it to a decent spec outside of levelling, and SV was remade into a solid group content addition.

Ok but what does any of that have to do with the interaction of a Pet and MM Hunter?

Other versions of hunter had more interactions with their pet. It’s fluctuated over the years, but it’s never been truly 0. Even on live, now, there’s interactions.

As I said earlier what are the DPS interactions currently on Live for MM other than Pet Lust and Pet Damage?

Strictly damage?
Trigger Finger / Lone Wolf (lone wolf being the opposite of buff, to be honest)

It also has significant defensive upsides that are not relevant in group content:
Survivability/CC via tanking.
Intimidation (if you don’t take Territorial Instincts)
Roar of Sacrifice
No Hard Feelings
Wilderness Medicine

It seems to have sucked the life from your mage. XD

Thank you for your thoughts, and I appreciate your perspective. However, I am coming at the issue from a completely different angle. My pet has never, ever been ANY sort of hindrance to me in play. I just want to be able to continue to play the game as I have always enjoyed it, in MM spec with a pet.

I am not asking for them NOT to implement changes that make sense to your gameplay. I am just asking for BOTH points of view to be validated.

While the pet provides a little damage I rely upon it as an open world/delve tank. I rather have lower overall DPS output and higher survivability since I largely play the game solo. Believe it or not it also shortens open world combat engagements as I spend less time kiting and more time being able to use Aimed Shot. When I do group content the pet gets put away for the higher DPS.

Just add a new 4th petless Hunter spec with a rogue like stealth abilities spec (for the " modern sniper" crowd cuz let’s be honest THATS really what they are trying to change MM to) OR The new “LoneBird” optional activated powers when petless in MM. Another poster pointed out, you have been trying in other ways to do this to MM spec and the petless change to the entire spec ALWAYS backfires on you. Just because I want to play the spec with a pet doesn’t mean I want the playstyle of BM, imo BM is too reliant on your pet and an accurate Tmog for the spec would be  a circus lion tamer with a coiled whip as a ranged weapon  Sorry any experienced pvper knows in a fight incapacitate the pet and get on YOUR behind and it’s a rap for you :100: I ain’t gonna lie some of you BM are monsters in PVP but you also know how true my statement is about your pet. I’m not capping as close range 100% is MM Achilles heel. But to the BMs I’m shocked because there are class QL changes I would be demanding since now having a pet is more spec related, such as dropping the exclusivity of taming “exotic” “spirit” beasts and taming tome requirements for pet families, also adding more pet models within the existing families become tameable, meaning opening up for example more models to be tamed from the mechanicals group, so 90% of the enemies in the Gnomeragan - Mechagon instances become tameable, at least then those that play “Mech” hunters as MM will feel better about playing the other 2 specs since the amount of mechanical pets types are pretty limited and, having a part of their characters rp aesthetic is being taken away with the auto-bird petless change to MM.

Survival hunters I can’t really speak on gameplay, I actually started out in the spec but don’t like being limited to 2 handed weapons and the pets cosmetically that are actually effective to maximize spec play. But as “Survival” what fantasy character were you going for Blizz? Ijs I hear "survival " I think solo and utilize EVERYTHING wilderness (looking like Dutch towards the ending of Predator :upside_down_face:) related as a tool or weapon but be limited to two handed weapons? And can’t use two handed clubs? A Survival Hunter more akin to the beasts of the wilderness but can’t use fist weapons? More like a close quarters fighting woodlands Ranger but can use hand axes or knives? Your foraging with 2 handed weapons? Gotta be a fantasy indeed scaling fish with a 2 handed axe, right? For those that are going to try and flame me about my criticism of weapon use, again it comes from the fact Hunters had use of one handed weapons AND dual welding them, I keep hearing weird technical excuses why they can’t like they need to make fight animations and stuff but we were already coded and HAD the ability to use them so what are they creating again?

Idk I’ll actually try the new spec with THIS hunter when it’s drops or switch to SV but because the aesthetic of the MM spec is going to be an a bird & cosmetically the options for Mech hunters are zero to none with the other 2 specs SV weapon choices and BM mechanical pets choices. I will be benching my (fave too) MM goblin engineer hunter, sorry I just can’t see from a RP fantasy standpoint being a goblin engineer hunter w/out a mechanical pet. Guess I’ll be retiring her in the SL. But damn can we at least pick our MM spotter pet out of our existing pets or battle pets? That would go a longway towards Hunter class retention ijs. Peace

Not a reply to your comments, just something I’ve noticed from your posts.

You seem to be using backticks ( ` ) instead of quotation marks ( ’ ) for your contractions. This causes large chunks of your text to be placed into code blocks and breaks the readability.

It does not matter. My dog at home provides nothing tangible to my life. I’m not going to shoot it.

I’ve already canceled three of my four accounts. I will cancel this account if this change goes through. I have lost all motivation to play since this change was announced. I am just done. I refuse to keep supporting them if they delete my spec again. Hopefully a few thousand hunters will join me.

Well, here’s to hoping it does not! That’s why we are here, fighting the good fight!

If it does, I am surprised how close in sentiment I am coming to feel to Danieltoon’s point of view. It doesn’t seem to be that big a deal, but it’s sucking all the enthusiasm for the game right out of me.

You roam around your neighborhood often dealing damage to your neighbors? Sounds like you don’t need your dog.

That is probably the most effective way to get any point across to a business. I wish you the best.
