There are three features that have been added to WoW between the latter end of Dragonflight and then The War Within that I hope (and I suspect) WoW realizes must now be either present or improved upon in perpetuity in the game’s future:
Follower dungeons: Aside from a handful of leveling randos before they added all the endgame dungeons to the queue with your first 80, I have not done a single non-follower run of TWW’s dungeons since its launch, and it feels completely natural to play like this! The one big request to improve on these would be the much requested and almost as much teased inclusion of our own alts as followers!
Delves: Where do I start? Delves have “changed everything” I thought they would, but I didn’t know how much my own eagerness would be echoed in community sentiment, and it’s been glorious to be validated by their positive reception. Yes, there was a bumpy start when delves were just as valuable to “the sweaty people” as they were to their intended audience in the week before M+ going live, but their statement as a content avenue has been made. Delves smoked all other endgame pillars in a recent official WoW twitter account poll of favorite endgame activities, and they’ve most importantly transformed the social compact of the game. Speaking of which,
Story mode raiding. I have seen nothing but well deserved praise for this mode, and it’s the only way I’ll “raid” going forward, ever again. I used to be a “one LFR wing per season” kind of player, but now that spot has been replaced by story mode!
Not continuing or evolving these three features going forward would be akin to The Burning Crusade’s launch deciding not to go forward with dungeons. It would be like saying raids were an expansion feature. These three new features are so important to so many players that I hope everyone realizes that, aside from the wiggle room to evolve delves into something even better in the same spirit, they are here to stay. The individual agency these modes give players is now pretty much mandatory, but most welcome in a world where the “one variable the devs can’t control,” that being the community has become something that must be optional to interact with for the sake of the game’s objective quality. These three modes are crucial to the game’s future.
I can safely say that these features are a condition of my continued subscription to the game, I know many people who say the same, and I’d bet money, based on the vibe and the aforementioned poll, that we are not alone in this sentiment. There’s no going back to a game without them.
Thank you, WoW, for giving the game to everyone! We will be here so long as you continue to do that!
Players tend to like easy ways to get gear. Delves are undertuned and reward gear well above their risk vs reward. Who wouldn’t like this?
We’ll see how much delves are enjoyed in S2 when they inevitably restructure the rewards.
If the story mode didn’t reward a free enchanted runed crest, would it be so popular?
No it trying to be a doomsayer, it’s just both of these features are tied to easy ways to get good gear, and it’s difficult to judge their true value without that.
I agree OP, now we just need a way to get all the best upgrading materials like the best crests etc…to be dropped in like +2 Mythic plus dungeons and delves. We deserve to also have a chance at the best possible ilvl.
Delves are only undertuned for two person groups. And the gear is fine.
It’s people like you that ruin it for others.
Why in God’s name do I care about a crest? I’m there to see the story. The entire reason for the last boss. I’m just annoyed I can’t run it again for fun. I don’t need a reward from a story mode.
Before, I’ve always waited until the next expansion to do the last expansions things solo. It’s a nice change to actually be geared appropriately and doing current content.
This is false if it was true people wouldn’t still struggle with them especially healers and Blizzard wouldn’t keep trying to tune them so everyone can do them.
Also false, I did it for the quest complete and to see the story and since I like doing follower dungeons I thought a follower raid would be cool and it was, quit trying to speak for everyone else like you have some right because you don’t you only speak for you.
Delves will always be controversial with the mythic 10+ and mythic raider players (neither of which is me), because they will always see it as imbalanced risk/reward.
Those players are outnumbered by the larger number of players (including me) who enjoy delves, either solo (where they are not undertuned in general) or in small groups (where they are admittedly easier for gearing than other content awarding similar gear).
It will be telling to see what Blizzard does here in the subsequent patches.
On the one hand, Blizzard intended to use delves as an endgame progression for players who didn’t like the larger group content or the pressure of M+. But, I think they’re still sensitive to being accused that their risk/reward itself needs to be retuned.
We will see. I do think delves will remain as a core element of endgame progression for non-raid, non-M+ players, but I would not be shocked if they made the progression steeper/slower in some way than it is now, in future patches.
I think the gear is fine because the lack of crests - to me - evens out the rewards between M+ 4’s and lower and Delves.
Delves can provide a means of getting a guaranteed piece but you will need to do M4’s to gear those champ tracks above - I think - a 4/8 piece of champ?
So, while the delves have “higher gear acceleration rates,” if you will, M+ will provide a “higher gear top speed overall,” with its infinite-ish gearing possibilities and 12 crests at the end of each dungeon providing a “higher gear level ceiling” to the delves “higher (initial) gear floor.”
I’m pretty negative about TWW overall but these are definitely one of the best features they have added. It allows people to experience Dungeons without having to worry about other people. My mother for example refuses to play in groups with other people because she gets lost easily and doesn’t do very good DPS so she gets flamed and kicked from groups even Normal dungeon groups so she doesn’t do them anymore, Follower Dungeons allows her to do dungeon quests and experience dungeons at her own pace. They are by far one of the top 5 best features added to them game imo.
Delve loot level is fine, i dont see an issue with it rewarding champ.
I see an issue only with the sheer volume of loot it hands out.
Each week you can easy get 8 pieces of champ gear, 1 heroic from the vault, and potentially 1-3 items of heroic level from them as well via maps.
That is insane in terms of gear quanity for the time it takes.
getting 8 keys and running 8 delves takes like…maybe 2.5 hours, and thats between doing all the stuff needed to get 8 keys.
To get 8 champ items in M+1-6, you have to run 20 dungeons assuming that loot is distributed even between 5 people, and that takes 6.5hours on just running them, not counting actually forming groups.
I can only get 4 keys a week. Worldsoul events have been bugged to eat 5 items and give the rewards of 1. Many of us were part of the “sorry, no weekly reset for you,” so we weren’t getting keys at all.
So how am I getting 8 pieces of champ gear? Also: I don’t need 8 trinkets.
