It may help gameplay mechanics in the shorterm, but destroy the essence of the game. Since its inception it’s been Horde vs. Alliance. If that barrier gets removed, they wouldn’t have any justification to call it World of Warcraft. Azeroth Online would be a more appropriate name at that point.
This is my idea of how it should work:
1- Every race should “return” to their capital city in which you will have all the commodities you need to live in (AH, flying, etc).
2 - You won’t have access to a city you are not from.
3 - Cut the org/SW main city crap + faction nonsense.
4 - There will be a main city (like Dalaran) in every xpan that every race will have access to.
5 - let every INDIVIDUAL do whatever (s)he wants… if a Belf wanna hang out with a Velf and kill Gnomies in the OW… there you go!, if an Orc wanna kill another Orc because, reasons, there you go!..
Which is why I draw similarities to what Jagex attempted to do with RS3 in the wake of bringing OSRS to fruition…
Large sweeping changes to core systems of the game resulted in the mass of players fleeing back to the version of the game which has those core systems intact, causing a huge schism within the community that is ongoing and unlikely to change.
But participating in this thread has shown me that enough people want this for Blizzard to view it as being potentially feasible and honestly I’ve been looking for something I hated so much about WoW I walked away and never returned.
The removal of factions would be it. If I ever see anything in the patch notes related to it i’d unsub immediately. Maybe I’d pick up woodworking or something.
Even acting against your own people? WOW!
I wanted to see a forsaken helping kill Horde troops!
And all in the name of the Alliance!
It would be hilarious to see a paladin doo Silverhand help cast blight on the Alliance at the battle of Lordaeron!
I wanted to see a tauren with his ally friends bombarding Taurajo!
Or a night elve helping Horde during the destruction of Teldrassil!
HUE!
Oh god I would hate all of this.
or you can choose to flag Red or Blue faction in warmode but cant change sides until the end of the day at rest.
Cross faction grouping is not the same as getting rid of the factions entirely, do this even have to be said? apparently so. There are different activities within the game. For PVP type things like Warmode and BGs your faction matters and you fight each other. For raiding and dungeons, you have never fought the other faction, so having cross faction grouping for these things make sense and does not affect the mechanics of other parts of the game.
That was more of a clarification than a retcon.
This reminds me of early MMORPGs before WoW and DAoC. I would love it. Tie players to the race they choose, not some made up alliances with other races.
It would cut down on players bragging about their faction and force them to earn something on their own.
The only change I could see is I would love to see an insane faction grind someone could do in order to have access to another city. Maybe something like he Insane - it could not be easy or done in a few weeks.
This might work as the “mercenary” tittle, and you might only have access to an extra city, thinking which one would be a big deal…
I get that’s what they’re aiming for. But it’s poor delivery really. I don’t feel any tension at all. Scenarios against the computer isn’t really fun. And pvp scenarios would likely be lopsided since the horde have more participants than alliance
Agreed. In addition to that, I’ll say the same thing I’ve said for years.
Want the retail game to really explode again? Make a Caverns of Time Portal to the Original pre-Cataclysm Azeroth so people can go back and experience it. Yes, Classic exists and all that but people playing Classic are doing it for the experience that was classic, and you can’t even transfer those characters to live.
I think Retail should have access to everything Classic did, and then some. Classic is a microcosm. Blizzard should treat Classic like a Ladder for bragging rights / notoriety / for those who never experienced it, but also give the older players access to the same.
Level Lock raids if you must, but to be honest a lot of us would like that back. Besides, anyone who thinks it would compete with Classic; isn’t really wanting the classic experience which was a different beast.
It sure would solve a lot of level / time continuity errors created by the Cataclysm.
Also on the subject, can we have mogs that are no longer obtainable but which players own already become unlocked in the transmogger even if it’s the wrong class? Alanna’s Embrace was a best in slot for Paladins in Classic. I have it but can’t use it.
That seems a little bit unfair, given my only ‘mistake’ was choosing to roll a Paladin to heal.
Yeah I’m not asking for factions to be dismantled. Personally I would still play even if Blizz took it that far, but at the very least we ought to have cross faction grouping, is the premise of my OP.
wouldn’t be that hard to pull off, either. There is the faction switcher in BFD, which… can we talk about the horrible armor choices? it looks terrible. Besides that, there’s culling of stratholme, also the merc system like in Trashcan. It would be very simple to change your appearance to that of a horde for other horde characters, and yours to that of alliance for other alliance characters. You would never know you were fighting with a team of people who were not in your faction if faction is a consideration in such a cross faction situation. (though it’s more than likely the appearance, no one wants to look like a gnome)
No… DO NOT ALLOW CROSS FACTION GROUPING
its already garbage with this cross realm crap.
Can’t rely on people… can’t punish them for bailing.
Its more catering to casuals. Subs are going to suffer.
I wouldn’t mind being changed race more often in instanced content, but truly I don’t see a problem with the heroes of Azeroth simply coming together.
One of my favorite “For the Horde!” moments was at the Wrathgate when the Horde aided against the Vrykul fighting side by side with the Alliance.
