The first way is to have your fun defending and pvping but still doing so in a way that helps your ranking teammates get a win in the game in a reasonably short period.
The other way is to give your ranking teammates the middle finger by deliberately forcing a long, drawn-out turtle.
It’s a free country, so you can do whichever you like. But make no mistake - if you choose the second then a lot of people on your faction will start to hate you and, who knows, maybe some day they will be in a position to give YOU the middle finger. Maybe by bidding up that item you want in a GDKP out of spite. I’m sure there are a lot of other ways as well. Just something to think about.
Feel free to tell all the people whose monthly sub you pay how you would like them to play. As for the rest, your opinion has been noted.
If you can’t be bothered to fight for victory for your faction than quit the bg and requeue, that way you won’t get mixed in with those who want to pvp in a pvp map.
Fighting for your faction in AV involves trying to kill Vann or Drek, not standing on the road farming HKs. As I said in OP, I have no problem with option 1 - pvping while trying to win the bg. But just farming hks for your epeen isn’t about winning the bg,
And I was quite clear that they have a right to do it if they want.
AV in vanilla used to take hours, not 5 to 7 minutes. I’ve played so many over the years, and there are so many ways to play them, including pvping the other team into the ground for an hour prior to killing the BG boss.
Turtles are always the fault of O. They happen when D on both teams are stronger than the O. If you want to avoid turtles, don’t afk at galv and go straight to getting south control.
The way AV is played on Classic seems like it would be very, very boring when everyone is playing it just to maximize honor per hour, instead of trying to win and for fun.
I have 4 other people with me and we just slam Defense and most of the times wipe horde out (or atleast 15-20 of them) very quickly, if O dont get their stuff together and win before they start re spawning its not our fault. The 2 hours of just murdering after that is a lot of fun.
If im solo i go around kill lil clothies or start some really cool 1v1s 1v2s around different areas and it is a really fun, AV is truly the best pvp experience especially when a lot of people are trying to rank.
I think they are having fun as well because when it becomes a huge turtle i only see like 5-6 people leave everyone else just stays and enjoys it.
For those ally trying to rank, the key thing to remember is that you are fighting two teams - the horde and those in the HK premade like the guy above me who want to turn the game into a turtle.
Thankfully, there are things that you can do to prevent a turtle. First, you need to realize that not all premades are created equal. If you see Chibi’s premade, you need to understand that they kill the horde at the IWB chokepoint so fast that it is essential to send a team at the very start to bypass Galv and go south and take the two most southern graveyards (FWGY and Relief Hut) while leaving Iceblood Graveyard (IBGY) uncapped. If you succeed in doing this, then the horde that Chibi’s team kill will rez at IBGY and most will jump down rather than try to go defend their keep. A turtle will have been avoided. If you fail in doing this, then you’ve most likely got a 90 minute turtle on your hands, so I hope that’s what you enjoy. Personally, I will just AFK out at this point and then requeue in 15 minutes while grouped with a friend- thereby hopefully ensuring that you don’t get fed into the same bg you left.
The horde who want to avoid a turtle can assist in that by, if they get killed by an Ally premade at the chokepoint, concentrate on taking Snowfall Graveyard. Any horde who like turtles are, of course, free to do the opposite and rush their keep. However, it probably won’t seem like such a great idea 90 minutes later when you look up and see that the guys in Chibi’s premade have the top 10 kills and Chibi himself has over 100 kills.
First problem is people measuring their game in minutes and not by how much honor they could get per game. When I was ranking I spent the whole game doing stuff that gives honor, which at the start of the game includes killing Alliance at Galv.
Turtles are the Offense not being able to bust through. If you are on Defense sitting on your hands complaining about a “Turtle” first thing you should do is realize you are why the game isn’t over yet, and the next thing you should do is mount up and go help the Offense.
Alliance causes more turtles in my experience because they have a good chokepoint and love to use it. Horde is at fault here too because for some reason in all the years people have played AV many haven’t learned you can ride into the base from the south instead of getting farmed on the bridge…
Most of our games are usually 15-20 mins long, there was actually only 1 90 minute game last night. Alliance doesn’t have the luxury of 2-3 minute que’s (our ques are probably 20 minutes). Winning the game > letting horde “kill Vann” .
