Theory as to what the Old Gods set in motion

So, as we know we have “Defeated” the Old Gods…however we have yet to understand exactly how shadow beings (specifically from the void) function in death…
Then we have been getting these cosmic charts, charts that through studying we can deduce many beings cannot simply consist of 1 of these powers except the void lords and naaru
So if we hold the above true, it should be able to be applied to the Old Gods, which is Indeed true

  • Y’Shaarj is almost certainly be Shadow + Disorder + Fire, and as Y’Shaarj gains its power through negative emotions, it can be safe to assume he has something to do with shadowflame causing madness
  • Yogg-Saron likely consisted of Shadow + Earth + Life, this of course being due to his creation of the curse of flesh, allowing him to warp earth to flesh, however, the reason for the creation of the curse of flesh isn’t fully known nor were his ambitions
  • C’Thun being so old likely was never designed with this in mind, however if i were to pin it based of deduction, C’Thun likely represented Shadow + Air + Death, its likely C’Thun that has also some kind on influence on the Nerubians “ascension”, as we seen a similar themes with the Qiraji
  • G’huun is fairly new, but nonetheless represents an unholy abomination of these powers, an Old God being comprised of Shadow + Decay + Order, G’huun also doesn’t seem to follow the will of the void at all…simply content in spreading its rot
  • N’Zoth, is “The weakest” of his kin but seems to be the most intelligent aswell, every thought and action calculated, he likely consists of Shadow + Water + Order,
  • Il’Gynoth, while never offically confirmed as an old god, one could think that he may be an artificial old god like G’huun, created by N’Zoth through a bargain, likely consisting of Shadow + Spirit + Life

What we know about the TWW (and potential causes)

Beledar: A crystal of light, being overwhelmed with shadow, however this shadow is strange as you would figure it would produce shades or other beings of shadow, instead it produces shadow elementals, why?

Theory:

  • Beledar is currently battling for control with the soul of one of the old gods, and based on its location being in proximity of pandaria, it’s likely Y’Shaarj, the strongest of the Old Gods, that was the day Sargeras plunged his sword into Azeroth. While we could assumed Beledar started to shift because of the damage, what if instead it was the immense wave of fear that flooded Azeroth that day?

The Arathi Emperor: The Arathi Emperor is very mysterious atm, but it is safe to assume he leads the pillory of flame, he saw a vision of Beledar when Faerin was but a child and a part of the arathi expedition seeking it out, this is around the same time we went to pandaria

  • Theory: Y’Shaarj is manipulating the arathi emperor through beledar, to back this up when he saw the vision of beledar, this was around the time of the Cataclysm/Pandaria timeline when Deathwing shattered the world the black blood trailed to Beledar

  • However, still rooted to his heart in Pandria he chose to part the mists and lead garrosh down the path he took, using his emotions to eventually destroy the heart of Y’Shaarj, allowing his soul to travel to Beledar

The Black Blood: A tool of the Old Gods, their very blood, we have seen it used by nerubians to Ascend and we have seen it below the roots of Elun’Ahir, this ascension strangely turns nerubians far more human like, while still possessing Nerubian traits, however this black blood appears to be muddier compared to the black blood we seen in the dragonflight flashback

Theory:

  • The Black blood is a combination of all old god influence, however within the black blood beneath Khaz Algar lies C’Thuns soul, and with it creating a unique combination of power within the black blood, a drop is perfectly in balance with all elements, allowing for a stable evolution into the human like ascended we see so often.

  • With greater amounts however, they begin to show more of C’Thuns influence, this is likely due to the black blood now rotting thanks to G’Huun, and with C’Thun being the only other old god with a tolerance for death, they’re the only one who still remains within with black blood, likely waiting for the moment Elun’Ahir’s roots touch it

The Pillory of a light, the church of the Arathi people has begun doing an unspeakable act, necromancy, however this seems strange, given necromancy is normally a shadow based magic, with the void lords being the only ones depraved enough to form a deal with death…or are they?

Theory:

  • The raid back in Uldir we faced off against G’Huun, a titan-made Old God (albeit by accident), as we travel through Uldir we learn the facility was used to study the Old God corruption, which ultimately failed as we were told by M.O.T.H.E.R.
  • Within this facility we find a few interesting things, the first being Zek’Voz (Herald of N’Zoth), likely drawn to Uldir by G’huuns presence, which caused the Aqir/Troll War
  • The Fetid Devourer, a necromantic lifeform summoned through the will of of G’huun and the corpses of loa, while we really don’t find much out besides the tests done, it makes it clear the titans aren’t above testing on other gods they deem lesser
  • Mythrax, the Unraveler, once one of N’Zoths strongest subjects, was destoyed during the Aqir/Troll War while trying to break the seals for his master, later resurrected by G’huun now twisted under his rotting influence, confirming that even void monstrosities torn from its influence
  • G’huun whom has existed within uldir for an unknown amount of time, spreading his rot despite being “imprisoned”, G’huun was an un-tempered entity of death, its only goal, to spread its rot, this drew the attention of the Old Gods, however its rot seemed unaffected by their influence
  • The light saw G’huun as an opportunity, we use the reorigination array to blast G’huun with arcane magic, aswell as light magic, likely as neither shadow nor light can truly be destroyed, just replaced with the other, which is likely the reason for the name "The Reoriginzation array, this could be the explanation for the pillory of flame being capable of using necromancy, as upon G’huuns death, we sent it to the realm of light

The Thraegar, earthen turned to diamond, little is known about them, however what we do know is they are earthen influenced by Azeroth, given free will (or forced to follow the will of Azeorth)

Theory:

  • If the above holds true, it stands to reason that if the titans can be influenced/corrupted by other orders during their devlopment, so can the old gods, now N’zoth of course being at the bottom the sea would be among the closest to Azeroths world soul, likely being swayed during his devolopement into the squid monstrosity
  • N’Zoths obsession to study, observe, and understand his ultimately why he came up with a ruse, to fake his own death in the eyes of the void, as he learned through us being sent to the black empire in dragonflight his inevitable fate, the void seeing his failure and treachery would not have mercy if he were to return, where as if he stayed the rot now violently consuming the old gods remains would claim him

The Blade of the black empire, a mysterious blade, with a more mysterious origin, what is Xal’atath? Who made the Blade?

  • Xal’atath is potentially a piece of a First one severed off with with black blade, specifically the hunger of the void, with “Xal” being derived from the romani term Xal, which is understood as “To Eat” at present, with atath likely being a phrase derived from elven language (has this phrase been used anywhere else in the game?)

  • If she’s a piece of a first one connected with the void, it could be assumed the rest no longer follows the will of the void having lost its hunger, this being Elune, while not confirmed, we have seen Elunes power made manifest, with it her grace brings renewal and creation, while her vengeance brings shadow and destruction

  • Where is N’Zoth? he embedded himself within us during BFA after manipulating wrathion to perfect our cloak, concealing the movements of his soul and shielding himself from the grip of the void, now laying dormant, waiting for “The hour all eyes will be opened”

  • What is the Radiant song? My best guess is the radiant song is Azeroths awakening protocol, likely engaged once sensing the imminent void threat, however unlike the locus walker’s world, Azeroth has not succumbed to the void lords, instead carefully tempered with help from N’Zoth, Elune and the Titans to resist the void lords influence and instead embrace the one truth path “Balance”, by carefully managing managing the amount of void influence he put into Azeroth to balance out the titan’s influence injected by the manifold

As of now, the whereabouts of yogg-Saron are unknown but my guess would be his is soul is somewhere within the saronite undernearth northrend

TL;DR We broke the great cycle in shadowlands, Zovaal was supposed to win, and with it came reform for the death god pantheon, midnight we will reform the voidlord pantheon with the help of N’Zoth, we have already seen N’Zoth’s guidance of Azeroth, holding onto Magni until she was capable of infusing the corrupted Stonevault with her power, its likely we will see more of this as we go on

There is an emerging theory that the Old Gods have free will because of Azeroth. I think Void/Life makes sense for pretty much all of them, given all of them seem to be sentient corruptive tumors.

perhaps, and perhaps they may even be the ones that save us from renilash come Midnight, but for no we can only theroize, and tbh out of all of them, the only one i could see contesting the light directly would be Y’Shaarj, meaning the shadow of beledar is likely being caused by that specific old god, but we will have to see,
A small note, if you look at the world map of Azeroth, and pandaria’s proximity to Khaz algar, and to where the shas corruption is at its worse, its very likely Y’shaarji’s soul traveled through the black blood directly to beledar, he only needed someone to destroy his heart and create a path for him (Garrosh/Deathwing)
Y’shaarj could also explain why Beledar is producing shadow elementals, if we jump back to pandaria and look at the sha corruption, it can be assumed Y’Shaarj’s elemental influence was likely very strong, as even his corrupion blazes with white flame

It being the blood of Y’shaarj would make the most sense, since his remnants seem to feed on negative emotions. I’m still unsure on what Beledar is exactly. I’m still betting on it being tied to naaru. The Radiant Song might just be a “haha, I’m in danger” before it permanently shifts into Void. We know Xal’atath is involved, we know Locus Walker is aware of who or what she is, and we know The Radiant Song preceded Dimensius emerging on K’aresh.

I am still confident Beledar and the song are not extensions of Azeroth. If anything, they seem to be drowning out Azeroth’s voice (thus why it took considerable effort for Magni to even receive a message).

the old gods were actually good except cthun
yogg saron was retaliating against brann coming into his lair too far

I think the “Old Gods” were the “Progenitors” we heard about in Shadowlands. IE: Literally the “old” Gods. Their motivation is to take Creation back from the Titans, who are their rebelling offspring. Sort of like Greek Mythos with the Titans and Olympians.

That would be plausible. If the old gods weren’t a creation of the Void Lords, who wanted to corrupt any worldsoul they could get their hands on

It 100% is tied to the naaru, plus Y’Shaarj being fire element, he would be the most capable of corrupting beings of the light with beledar being connected to the sacred flame (and potentially the sunwell), or perhaps, Y’Shaarj intends to make a bargain with the light

see thats the thing, we don’t even know if they follow the will of the void anymore, as the void embraces all possiblites, perhaps that was a part of N’Zoths plan, as N’Zoth was closest to the world soul of Azeroth, he likely may have been influenced by it

Maybe the Void Lords are also “Old Gods” ?

I wouldn’t say that, i feel the old gods better mirror the titans, just as the wild gods mirror the death gods, with the void lords and naaru mirroring each other
Perhaps there is an entire power struggle between the old gods and void lords on the path of the void

Or rather the Void Lords are the First Gods with the Old Gods coming after them and the Eternal Gods coming after them and the Titans being the generation after them.

So in chronological order it’s First Gods/Void Lords > Old Gods > Eternal Gods > Titans > Elemental Lord Demigods > Titan Keepers > Wild God Demigods > Aspects > Primal Incarnates > Magnaron & Genesaurs > Demigods that aren’t Elemental Lords, Wild Gods, Magnaron or Genesaurs(I.E. the Lich King, Archimonde, Kil’jaeden, Azshara, Nhal’athoth and Ordos).

Titans are on the same level of power as the First Gods(Void Lords) at their maximum potential(Sargeras) and at the same level as the weakest of Old Gods(G’huun) as well as your average Eternal God(Denathrius) as well as a Primal Incarnate at their weakest potential(Argus and Aggramar).

Primal Incarnates and Aspects surpass Titan Keepers and Demigods and reach the level of the Lesser Gods in power.

Titans especially the Prime World Soul rival the power of even the Greater Gods despite not being Gods themselves.

potentially, and it could be thought that these beings can diverge from the will of their designated realms based on unprecedented events, like reforging and corruption, not all of which initially apparent, and perhaps with each tier down these beings become more complex, which results in insanity given any volatile combinations on top of an easier time swaying which side dominates their will based on which side is stronger, which is precisely why the elemental lords waged war, as given any conflicting elements get infused into said elementals and they would go insane

and now we start to run into a similar problem as Dragonball Z: you have so many tiers of “godhood” that being a god can either mean you’re the most powerful force in the universe or a total pushover.

i personally do not believe there is that many, rather the void lords and the…(are there lightlords?) and whatever is truling hiding behind the veil of death, are beings at the absolute pinnacle, then below them you have you have the titans/old gods/demons/wild gods/death gods/naaru, below that you direct subjects (the aspects, the keepers, the ascended, the faceless, etc.) and below that you have mortals, thats at least the way i see it, so Supreme/Greater/Lesser/Mortal

I think you give way too much credits to a bunch of Void minions who are barely even more than proxy

perhaps, but I feel N’Zoth wouldn’t just let us kill him without a plan, we know how he knew the future (he learned everything we had up to 10.0.5 when we ended up in the black empire, likely through a piece he inbedded within us in BFA) but for him to just die in such a pathetic way is just sad…esp if he straight up knew the future

N’Zoth knew everything we, Chromie and Eternus saw up to Dragonflight.

Eternus was working with the Infinite Dragonflight and thus would be privy to whatever deal Chrono Lord Deios made with Iridikron as well as the prophecies of the Harbinger.

Infact I wouldn’t be surprised if N’Zoth was the original source of the Harbinger’s Prophecies.

Of course N’Zoth is just guessing at which source of Arcane will be chosen by Azshara: She should be smart enough to avoid the Dark Heart and escape the Prophecy that N’Zoth has laid out:

N’Zoth foresaw that Azshara corrupted by a broken Dark Heart would become an Undead Blind Queen wielding a Scepter of Bone whose true face would be revealed by Beledar’s Night Cycle making her howl for the Light she once despised.

Unfortunately he arrogantly thinks that Azshara would make the reckless choice of holding to her bargain instead of grabbing the Azerite mined by Gallywix(which is equal to the Arcane of Dalaran) and the Pillars of Creation(the power hidden within Dalaran) and unloading the Dark Heart’s corruption into Xal’atath making her rot.

N’Zoth is like Zul and his Apprentice and got his ideas of knowing the future from our Time Travel forgetting that everything past our Time Travel to the Black Empire is a mystery.

5 Keys to open Azshara’s way into Beledar: the Hammer of Khaz Goroth to open the path, the Tidestone to keep the Waters at bay, the Aegis to keep the Black Blood’s Corruption from reaching in, the Eye of Aman’Thul to restore Beledar to it’s original splendor and the Tears of Elune to unlock that which lurks within.

Xal’atath of course would be desperately summoning Kobyss to attack the Arathi so that she can get the Rage from the conflict infused directly into herself during the Nightfall Patch before Azshara makes her move.

If by “he knew the future” you mean he knew an infinite possibilities of different futures that could unfold and hoped that the one he wanted would play out when the player would just be mind controlled and not saved by Azeroth…then yes he knew the future.

But the problem is, he is an old god and he thinks that he can just mind control people, and he manage to nearly win in bfa, thats what people often dont get, he do mc the players at the end, the thing is that Azeroth and necklace and the training agaisnt the corruption which was the whole point of the entire expansion since Uldir, culminated in us freeing ourselves and destroying him.

You dont accept N’zoth died, its one thing, but dont try to say it was “pathetic” it was literally the climax of all the expansion, you can re do bfa and its storyline if you want, you will see that all the events that plays out are for this final moment.

Uldir where we understand the origination sequence, meet MOTHER and find out how to purge the old gods.
Xal’atath dagger which will be handed to Azshara for her to finally think she can kill N’zoth and this will bring us to her to free him.
Ny’alotha when we finally kill him with all the powers we combined, these powers being :
8.0 = Hearth of Azeroth, its Chamber and the Azerite
8.1 = Uldir, the connexion to the Chalmber of Heart, MOTHER.
8.2 = We gather the powers of : Well below Nordrasil, Power of the black dragonflight in neltharion lair, power of the raid flight in twilight highlands, power of the blue flights in nexus, power of the green flight in the emerald dream, power of the Maelstrom.
8.3 = Power of the Forge of Origination, connected with the Power of the Engine of Nalak’sha in MoP, all connected to the Chamber of Hearth, the cloack which made us resist the corruption, and the dagger of xal’atath.

All of these were added over and over, its like whole Azeroth was shoting at N’zoth, so dont say, with all it took, that he died “pathetic” lol.

Its crazy how, you would theorize so much upon a randome quote he said in DF, yes i know this quote was written for DF, but i dont think it have anything to do with a future N’zoth coming back.

As for what you say about Azshara, dude, in bfa, she is freed from N’zoth, she is not a Void servent, she never was, accept it, dont make her wasted being a void servent, and dont be like “ho yeah, well, lets make her bfa arc irrevlevent as if she did nothing” like really, i dont like when people just make Azshara be deminished just to bring back the squid N’zoth is…like N’zoth is so boring why would you deminish a great character like Azshara with an actual story just to bring back a big squid that only purpose is the say jibberish to sound mysterious…

I’m saying that Chromie, Eternus and the Player Time Traveling to his Past would show him(through trying to read our minds out of curiosity) exactly how History would play out though the existence of Murozond would probably give him hope for his History to be changed but he would throw out what he knows and attempt to predict the Future if History cannot be changed!

Of course all he knows is everything before the point where we traveled to his era as well as what Deios told Eternus and that is not enough to solve the future so his Whispers are just guessing past the Thaldraszus Questline though the fact that Eternus must have been told about the plan to subvert the Nerubians for N’Zoth to immediately start Whispering about it suggests that Xal’atath revealed a lot of info on her plan that we never bothered to ask Eternus about!

A Song of the Depths makes it clear that the Naga were told about the plan to subvert the Nerubians as well as the Broken Dark Heart being up for the taking and Azshara making her return after Xal’atath completes the Awakening(her awakening when she realizes that Azshara is not stupid) so why wouldn’t Eternus and the Infinites be informed?

N’Zoth in the end is just another Zul who doesn’t know what Xal’atath’s plan(or deal with Azshara that requires Arcane) will result in as well as another Murozond desperate to avoid his destined fate despite knowing about it.
