yeah cuz dalaran sucks lmfao and besides it’s still an infantile way of telling a story. they’re just hand-holding till the bitter end
Okay, let’s be really honest here: WoW has never been and will never be peak story telling.
Three major reasons:
- Media. The nature of an MMO limits the kind of stories that can be told and the way they can be told. Game mechanics, the need for everyone to interact with it, the piece by piece way it has to be told, etc., etc. This is just a VERY limited story telling media.
- The need to everyone to be able to follow at least the broad strokes. Blizzard couldn’t tell really deep, complex stories because they would just confuse the players who are more casual around the story.
- Skill. Let’s be really honest here, the Dev’s are not authors. These are not people that have spent the time, training, and work to become skilled story tellers. They design games. They will never match people who have spent their lives trying to get good at specifically telling stories.
Overall, with all the constraints, I think Blizzard does a pretty good job. They certainly make mistakes, and there have been some BIG ones. But it important to temper expectations with what WoW story telling can ever be.
Yes, they messed up with the way they handled Khadgar and Dalaran. They misjudged what people would care about more. But, all things considered, it is not really that bad.
