Theory about Khadgar and Xal

Okay, so what if Xal is currently possessing Khadgar?

I don’t think she’s ‘possessing’ him per se, but I could definitely see something suspicious come out of him coming back to us so easily.

I don’t think so.

Given the reaction Xal’atath gave when the Dark Heart was cracked. It is clear she did not expect Alleria to target the artifact. So why would she be possessing Khadgar? She probably did not know that Khadgar turned himself into pure arcane energy.

This kind of “5 million D chess” nonsense is why we hated Zovaal. I doubt Blizzard would pull the same crap with Xal’atath.

Doesn’t really work for two things.

  • Khadgar perished in front of Alleria
  • Anduin regained control of the light (Xal’atath can’t predict that) onto Khadgar

Yeah, I put this idea forward somewhere.

I think it is technically possible. It’d just be kind of weird tonally in some ways. But still possible in my mind. Not likely, though.

Thinking on the spot.

For all we know, he didn’t. And that Xal’atath was just storing the corpse in-case she wanted to use it.

She was already teleported away before then.

While having a very clear meltdown due to the Dark Heart being damaged?

Like I said, tonally weird but still possible.

If we’re to believe Khadgar turned himself to pure arcane while his city was being destroyed and he was about to be blown up.

How? Especially if there was technically no body for her to possess? He existed as pure arcane energy while inside the dark heart

What I was saying is maybe that’s not actually what happened. Khadgar tells us he turned into pure arcane. But if he’s actually possessed that could be a lie. Maybe his body was turned into void energy or something instead.

Nah, I doubt Xal possessed him. She seemed pretty angry he was still around. I’m still confused as to why Xal’atath thinks she’s winning. Feels like we have stopped her every step of the way with the exception of “mass teleport Dalaran / destruction?” Which I do not buy at all.

Baddie: I will put this city to much better use
One minute later: Boom!!!

In the french version Xal specifically uses Adieu. Which highlight specifically how this “goodbye” from her is a permanent one. She wasnt expecting him to live and 100% thought he was going to die during Dalaran’s explosion.

Not to mention it makes her stupid. If she had any inclination that he was alive at all, Xal would kill him, preferably with a live Audience of the Forces standing against her for a second traumatic event for everyone involved.

I dunno if that’s what’s happening, but I feel like the ‘feel good ending’ of the .0 campaign is a fakeout. Something else is going on.

Winning battles does not guarantee won wars.

But there is a correlation. When are we going to get steamrolled and have to get rezzed? (that’s what made Argus feel dangerous, plus his story)

Not super afraid of Xal’atath at the moment. We got city destruction and befriend all the new factions. No feeling of doom and gloom yet.

Although spiders are debatable….without us smelling fancy they would eat us.

Side note: Are we going to get another Eye of the Jailer timer during Beledar dark phases?

Mechanics have never made me feel threatened. Just frustrated by the mechanic. Auto wipe after x number of debuffs, unless the tanks can swap… or other pure dps checks… for example. None of which really impress upon me much of a threat.

The spiders with their auto-eject debuff doesn’t convey a sense of their strength just that the Devs were unable to come up with another mechanic for making us feel “threatened”.

We haven’t. We have slowed her down and inconvenienced her. But we haven’t actually stopped anything she was trying to do.

Small correction here. She did not say she would put the city to better use. She said she would put the power in the city to better use.

She said:
“This city is home to such power. All squandered by the Kirin Tor. I’ll put it to much better use.”

She is talking about putting the power to use, not the city. She took the power.

Add to this:
Anduin healed Khadgar with the light. Which would have been a problem for the void being that is Xal’atath.

I was also suspicious of getting Khadgar back so easily, but as others have cited, Anduin rezzing him sorta puts a pin in that. I do wonder if swimming Xal’s purple kool aid pendant might make him more susceptible to void shenanigans, though.

That being said, I do think most of this comes from the fact that Xal is supposed to be this top tier schemer, and that billing makes people look for subtle malfeasance. However, if I had a dime for every time Blizzard wrote a super duper smart manipulator into ‘RAAAAAWR ANGRY MY PLANS WERE THWARTED,’ I’d have like five dimes.

It may be appropriate to temper expectations of brilliance.

A lot of writers (in all kinds of media) don’t know how to write smart people. And often the ‘smart’ part of it is written as basically magic. They know everything, can predict everything, etc. They write these genius manipulator stories as ‘everything was my plan all along,’ even when steps don’t make sense. Unfortunately that trains people to look for convoluted places that something might be their 10 dimensional chess game.

Fair points made. thank you for the corrections. I was going off of memory.
