I’m doing this awesome time travel quest and it’s held back by atrocious quest text. Check this out.
We’re not going to fall through time anymore but we’re far in the past. Waaaaay far in the past. “The Titans Haven’t Visited Azeroth Yet” far in the past. Getting home is going to be… tricky.
But we dragons can do it!
We’re going to need you to keep those Black Empire minions off our backs though. It shouldn’t take too long!
I think.
Probably.
Don’t worry about it! Just keep those creepy monsters away and we’ll handle the rest! Easy!
Who talks like this? How is this supposed to be immersive? I can hear the 20-30 year old writer patting themselves on the back because they think it’s funny and relatable.
I was playing 10.1 PTR and I SWEAR I thought I was playing Bugsnax with how terrible the dialogue is and how goofy the voice acting is.
The difference is… Bugsnax is a game for actual children basically when WoW is supposed to be rated T.
This game was always cartoony, but it never FELT like a cartoon, not until DF. DF’s writing and voice acting seriously makes me think this game is for 2nd graders…
DF so far has been pretty immature in terms of writing and voice acting, but 10.1 is on another level of infantile.
I like the game well enough to have been playing it on and off since 2006 but yeah, it’s never quite reached this level. Very obviously written for children. I’m a little confused because I didn’t think the target audience was kids anymore, but I don’t really know any of the player demographics. Maybe kids are still their main audience?
Really doesn’t seem right but you never know. I swear most of the kids playing are playing because their parents have been playing for years.
Yeah man, I was in a VC with one person who quit when the expac started and another person who hasn’t paid for WoW since MoP, and both of them were APPALLED when I was streaming PTR to them. They could not belive how kiddy 10.1 was.
Can’t wait for it to go live so we can see the cinematics.
I know for a fact they are going to feel like a melodramatic Marvel movie, like every cinematic after MoP.
Oh, don’t get me wrong. I absolutely adore this game. I criticize it because I care and want to see it improve. I had issues with the writing in WoD and Legion because it became so hokey. It still took itself somewhat seriously though.
I missed out on BFA and SL so I can’t comment on those.
Dragonflight is this first expansion I’ve had time to invest in since Legion and the writing is just so bad now! It makes me sad. If Blizz could just rein in the quirky zoomer/millennial speak I’d be golden.
Honestly, writing-wise, this cinematic is fine. I just wish the shot composition was better and the overall animation and models were better.
They need to start outsourcing the visuals of these cinematics because they’ve always looked pretty mediocre or just plain bad since BC.
The hyper-real CGI ones look fine, though.
I’m NOT asking for hyper-real CGI every cutscene, no. I want something like… an animated movie. I think the opening cinematic to Sonic Unleashed, for example, is what I am talking about here. Nothing hyperreal, but still good.
GOD I WISH PEOPLE WOULD REALIZE THIS.
People are always quick to say that one is “just hating” or something.
No, I complain so much because I WANT THE GAME TO BE GOOD!
Something about dragonflights writing in general just doesn’t vibe with me. Like every character seems to be trying REEEEALLY hard to sell me that the dragon isles are cool and awesome. Oh and the centaurs can go stuff it with all their unnecessary huffiness. Walruseses are cool though.
