The WrA Video Game Thread

I get that as a complaint. I tend to play the female Sole Survivor template in general because I DO like the voiced protagonist but only when Courtenay Taylor is voicing it and then it becomes a sort of Mass Effect hybrid for me and I had the hardest time getting back into being a silent protagonist when 76 came out. Now I can appreciate both but there’s something about Fallout 4 at this point that I can’t do any of the mods that remove the voice entirely for the whole thing.

Being from the past and thrust into the worldscape is a really neat hook but I get the parentage aspect being jarring and it was kind of an odd choice for, well, not to make a sweeping gesture but I think a lot of the Average Gamer population would struggle to identify with it? Sure, find your parents, find your brother/sister/cousin, but being a parent is… well it was certainly a choice.

Start Me Up bypasses it very eloquently and then it comes back to just finding quest mods that don’t reference the backstory, but they have a “I’m a Sole Survivor I’m just not that Sole Survivor” option for the best of both worlds, but then things like Sim Settlements 2 and several companion mods make the “I must find Shaun” thing part of your character’s personality all over again and I found it easier to just slide into the shoes than not if I wanted to keep “longplays” going where I could slot in the neatest, newest mods without too many hiccups.

Don’t mind me I have pneumonia at the moment so I’m not doing much and my brain is like “YES TALK ABOUT FALLOUT ALL F@#$ING DAY.”

Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well.

I guess if/when I feel like doing a deep-in on 4 again I will look into the mods. I may also have to go at it from another pov. I always play FO from my perspective: How would I handle this situation? How would I survive in the wasteland?

But for 4 I guess I need to change it up to how more of a… How would this guy handle the wasteland and find his kido?

I also struggled with it beyond normal human empathy when the game came out, now I’m married and have my daughter and suddenly it became my favorite game in the franchise and I find a lot of the “Mad Mom vs. the Commonwealth” angle not going far enough into levels of violent reprisal for my tastes.

Not a parent, but can confirm the older I get the more it just makes logical sense to cap Father the minute he turns up as opposed to hearing the man out because “WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO MY SON?!”

I’m just disappointed they hint with Kellogg a return of Game 1 and 2’s Bionic Augmentation system and we can’t have surgery to replace random bits of ourselves with machinery (New Vegas also had this, now that I think about it).

Course, I’m also disappointed they hint with Kellogg potentially taking over Nick and there’s no quest to bring Kellogg’s personality to the fore and be running around with the ghost of an Institute killer in the body of a experimental Synth. Not disrespecting the Synth Detective, but running around with Kellogg would have been more fun. There’s a depressing lack of morally ambiguous characters. Even straight up mercenaries like MacCreedy and Cait have softy hearts of gold.

“Artist” and serial killer Pickman should have been a companion. Yeah, he kills raiders but he’s absolutely insane and pretty much evil.

I’m thinking about picking up Disco Elysium has anyone here played it?

Am I going crazy or are there just not any super great deals this year?

I’m getting less and less mileage out of the Steam summer sales (they said, just looking at the pile of unplayed games) because I’ve kind of already… bought most of what was interesting to me over the years?

Like I’d grab Cyberpunk on a good sale considering the roadmap still looks fairly bleak but nothing else has really grabbed me and you can only see Terraria for .75 so many times.

Oh hey, The Outer Worlds is on sale decently…aaaaaand it’s only the base game. DLC is not on sale. Noticing that a lot actually. DLC is not included in the sale. Unless it’s a Paradox release, but that’s another bag of worms.

Like HoI4. Only $10. And all the DLC is on sale as well.
Still $75 for all of THAT, though.

So wild seeing “33% off!” on things and that still meaning $40. Gaming got expensive when I wasn’t looking.

I ended up buying Cthulhu but I don’t have time to install it.

My spending priorities have gotten all screwed up with going into the world of tabletop miniature wargaming.

Dropping $40 on a Chimera for the next phase of my Genestealer Cult army? No hesitation.

Browsing the Steam Summer Sale and sucking in air through my teeth because “$40 is a lot of money…”

I mean, Frostpunk is a game I’ve eyed for a long while. But factor in the DLC and that’s still $40 for the complete experience. (Seriously, why is the base game 67% off but the DLC only 15%?).

Subnautica: Sub-Zero isn’t even ON sale and the rest of my Wishlist are either preorders or not even available for purchase yet.

This might be the first Steam Sale I legitimately don’t purchase anything.

i bought black desert just because it was a dollar. i probably won’t ever play it.

otherwise, nothing’s catching my eye quite yet. the type of game i enjoy is a rare one that only appears every three to five years, so i take what i can get. the sorta bioware rpg or witcher 3-type rpg. its really hard for me to get invested in anything other than those, at least for single player experiences.

Tabletop Simulator is on sale for 50% off.

It’s 10 bucks.

If you love tabletop games, please buy TTS because it’ll be the best purchase you’ve ever made in your life. It basically gives 95% of board games you can think of playable on your PC with friends who also have TTS.

I’d been planning on picking up Greedfall since it’s 70% off but, with the new gold edition announced, I think I’m going to wait until that goes on sale eventually. I’m cheap and patient.

I got The Outer Worlds because it seems like it could be good and Stellaris: Lithoids because of a compulsion to complete my DLC collection for that game despite knowing full well I’m not really gonna play as rock men

I discovered Wildermyth recently and have come hither to sing it’s praises. It’s a great game and I know you all would enjoy it.

It is a tactical RPG that has random elements to it- your characters have random personality traits and backstory aspects, you encounter random events that change your characters in a variety of ways, and there is also an overarching story that kind of serves as a destination. For example you could be fighting a campaign against a dark entity. On the way, your mage gets imbued with the spirit of a Phoenix and grows an arm of fire. It’s hella cool :sunglasses:

The writing is beautiful, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and sometimes dark. I’ve really enjoyed it.

sekiro for $30 is tempting me something fierce
