Thousand Words when?

I remember the day I noticed they switched that from the generic mount music. I had taken a break for a few months and when I came back, my character was parked up in Coerthas Central Highlands. So I log in, it’s dark and snowing, I mount up…and I swear I might as well have been back in the beginning of FF 6 after years away.

If you buy Fenrir from the cash shop it’s real good

except for when you listen to it during The Rising when you’re doing the event quests around five dozen other people and the specific echoing rendition they use for it combined with the crowd noises make it sound like a busy shopping mall

“mr raubahn sir your child is waiting for you at the lost and found”

So fellow FF players…when do I get a mount? Because I’m getting really, really tired of constantly having to run back and forth. Like the game well enough, but boy does this early game love its Morrowind-esque quest structure (Go Here. Talk to X. Do Y. Talk to X. Go Back where you started. Back where you started? Go Here. Talk to X. Do Y. Talk to X. Go Back where you started. Back where you started? Go Here. Talk to X. Do…).

I’m actually really interested in this Animal Races summoning their Primals. Stop making me go back to Scions HQ to drop off daggers!

Bad news but fetch quest syndrome never really trails off. I mean it does as the game goes on but it’s heavily frontloaded and you only get some relief rather than a full on cure.

Anyways your mount related quest is I believe 20, around the same time as the send you around the world and back to open up travel between all the major city states and so on.

Additionally, that’s Main Story Quest level 20. You can easily blow past that if you so decide to do some light grinding or side content, so don’t get confused, it is 100% a part of the main progression.

Eyes narrow in Level 28

I missed it somehow, it seems.

Nevermind then. No idea where I’m at in the MSQ but I do know I’m still far too outleveled for things.

Coincidentally, learned a really weird work around. I’m a Level 22 Armorer but Level 28 Marauder. Did the Materia questlines for Armorer which requires being Level 25 to turn in to get Materia mk. 2. So I swap over to Marauder Gear…and can suddenly turn in the Armorer Quest.

Secondarily, assuming I googled correctly, you may or may not also need to collect some Grand Company Seals to exchange at your choice of faction’s headquarters for a checks notes “Chocobo Issurance”. Not a particularly hefty grind by any means, but it’s an additional step.

And uhh, not to be the bearer o’ news, but your basic mount speed is not great. I know any boost is a good boost but it’s not exceptionally notable to begin with and any related upgrades are geared more toward endgame level (if I recall correctly).

But I swear it’s all good and tolerable.

Like I said, I’m actually interested in the principle story. It’s interesting. The glowing bits of seemingly frozen explosions on the horizons have me curious (I’ve not looked up what those are about to preserve the mystery). It’s just the quest structure is just…GUH. Why is there no teleport right to Scions HQ?

Tip: Teleport to Limsa Lominsa, access the aethernet, use it to go to the Arcanist’s Guild, and then take the boat right next to it right to the Waking Sands.

Also, storywise, the reason there isn’t an Aetherite next to the Scion HQ does get touched on later. Suffice to say, Ul’dah be Ul’dah.

That feels like more steps then my current way of just porting to Horizon and taking the Porter.

Give it a try. I always found it to be much, much faster. The ferry only costs 40 gil.

I’m thinking of maining ranged DPS because the Cryptlurker aiming set is just too good. The casting set is cool, too, but the aiming set is just… :ok_hand: :raised_hands:

Guess it’s time to work on my bard rotation.

The mount is at roughly level 30 and will be part of the MSQ after you do one of the trials. They’ve also made it much easier to get as, like, the first quest after it gives you the seals you need to buy the chocobo issuance outright.

Eventually, you’ll get Aetheryte tickets straight to Vesper Bay, so you’ll be able to port directly there. They look like envelopes in your inventory.

I like friends, can we be friends in Eorzea?
Semi-related, I also have art of my potato!

Edit:
Friends and refugees! I have started a Fellowship in FFXIV targeting folks from Wyrmrest Accord / Moon Guard. You can find this fellowship by clicking the social radial (has a smiley and frowny face) and using the ‘Fellowship Finder’.
You can find us easily by using the Fellowship Search icon in the Finder window (close to top right) using the following criteria:

  • Main: Making Friends
  • Sub: Novice Support
  • Recruiter’s Home World: Malboro

This should help a great number of us find each other and work towards something grand, yeah? With enough interest, I can start working with folks to put together events to get your feet wet in Eorzea RP
