The WrA FFXIV Thread

I don’t really find their lore (miqo’te) all that bothersome.

I don’t find it on its own terrible, but in an RP setting it seems like a nightmare.

Eh. I’ve been around long enough to know that even if stuff like that didn’t exist in the setting, roleplayers would weave something from whole cloth solely to include it.

See: troll harems, or that rhymes with reading auction a bunch of vulpera players organized.

From what I’ve seen, at least, all of that has been a lot easier to avoid in FFXIV than in WoW. No one’s flagged me down trying to sell me a “pleasure slave” like that one time in SMC, at least. Blech.

is this where I bring up the Xaela tribe that marries their horses?

I don’t actually remember the specifics but it sounds hilarious out of context.

This is pretty much my view. People be people, internets be internets, people roleplaying on the internets… yeah. I just don’t let it live in my head.

I’ve had bad experiences in WoW with other people, so, it’s probably just that bleeding into my thoughts on the matter here. I have no idea what RP and its community is like in this game.

There’s alot of thirsty players in FFXIV, but as someone else said. Just block, report if you feel the need, and keep on living your best life.

At its core, I’m not sure how different FFXIV’s RP community really is from WoW’s RP community, but one major difference between the two is player housing.

Everything in WoW is out in the open because there’s simply nowhere else for it to be, whereas FFXIV is setup so that roleplayers can have their own private space for stuff, like, uh, kneading auctions.

It’s much easier to curate your own experience in FFXIV.

I nolonger RP with randoms, so, thankfully, how other players treat my RP character shouldn’t effect me.

I really haven’t had time to deep dive into rp in ffxiv. I see it everywhere and I really love that it’s thriving in the game but right now my focus has been on leveling and figuring out the game/lore. I usually spend time rping at endgame after I have exhausted the story content. But I still have a ways to go. I keep making new alts so I have not gone past Heavensward post MSQ.

please for the love of god explain

And don’t spare the dirty words where appropriate.

Actually, I already know about these. I was in one of the Vulp discords when they first were released and these things went underground because they were getting trolled… term used loosely

i can’t, i’m trying not to get banned because i want to believe the next expac will be good :pensive: :weary:

One could say that Silverpine is beautiful this time of year though. We might want to plan a caravan there, don’t you think?

Do people actually believe this is even possible anymore?

I just hang around here because the forums are more amusing than the game. And that’s a pretty sad commentary in and of itself.

The people running CDN aren’t TERFs in the slightest. What. Though I do side with Lianshi that there’s a bit of an atmosphere there, I haven’t had any trouble with anyone there.

I want to believe. :pensive:

As much as I’m enjoying FFXIV, and as much as I absolutely believe it is (at the moment) a superior product in just about everyway, I still have an abundance of love for WoW and want to believe things can get better and that WrA’s RP community can bounce back.

I mean, where else am I gonna get so much juicy RP drama?? FFXIV’s RP community is too sensible. Can you imagine life without breading auctions, or rooftop snipers, or someone setting up a medical clinic RP event in the Square intending for it to be bombed by the Scarlet Crusade but not informing anyone of this (including the other organizers) ahead of time??? :weary:

Man, I love that kinda drama. There has not been enough of it recently. I am starting to itch…

But yeah.

I was just talking to Lohkash in that other thread the other day. FFXIV is just so much more conducive to cultivating rp than WoW and it stems from a completely different perspective from the management/devs all the way down. Is it perfect? HELL NO! But is it a damn sight better than WoW? You betcha!

And there’s zero signs of a perspective shift in WoW development priorities anytime soon. And if you doubt just look at SL character customization for your proof.

And there’s also no sign of a business-level shift any time soon either. There was an article from IGN earlier this week. I know, I know…IGN. However, that article was actually fairly well-written and well sourced in a surprising change of pace.

It basically described that there might have been a shift not only in design, but also in corporate spending and development pipelines. Apparently the previous “money is not an issue” stance has given way to “we need to turn over every penny thrice” mentality, which incidentally aligns with the fact that a certain goblin took over in 2018. Developments need to go through “10 people in 5 departments” at all times. You get the gist.

I don’t think any of that is going to change any time soon.

I don’t plan on coming back.

I’m not going to say never, because, sure, maybe the things I take issue with (that reach far beyond the Shadowlands expansion) will change. But I personally don’t believe they will. That’s not even mentioning the changes I’ve made in other areas of my life that effect the decision to return, too.
