here’s your complimentary subligar
The constant temptation to just flaunt it, at all times
iirc you can turn it off in the party finder window settings.
My housing neighbors are comprised of the following:
- Chaotic bisexuals
- An entire fc of bara cat men (hrothgar only) played by gay or bi dudes
- A couple of very sweet lesbians
- An LGBT fc
Not a straight in sight, and now we get bishi bunny men with Endwalker. Thank you Yoshi for our life
i still don’t even think this is the case, i know plenty of ffxiv players who didn’t come from WoW. it’s not like final fantasy is a tiny IP
plus this approach seems way too eager to ignore that blizzard’s game design and general philosophy facilitates its toxic playerbase and that square’s community sucks less only because people fear consequences
like yeah enforcement is definitely a component, it would be hard to argue otherwise, but ffxiv is built from the ground up to encourage cooperation and it shows through a generally less terrible playerbase that is more forgiving of mistakes
like yes people are actively punished for being hostile, but it’s not like there’s an actual reward for being nice - so my only assumption is that people in the game are just nicer in general
Sure there is. I get so much serotonin for crafting stuff for sprouts and seeing their reactions. Buying someone an apartment is like doing 4 lines of dopamine one after the other.
insofar as there are literally two factions fighting each other and that brings PvP to the forefront of the game (at least conceptually…) yeah, there’s obviously going to be more conflict in WoW in general. Blizzard doesn’t help that with its weird enforcement of rules or stuff like Corpsegrinder. you already said it yourself: PvP in ff14 is practically non-existent.
did they remove the commendation rewards? because you actually do kind of get rewards for being nice (or at least helpful). the same kind of goes with the Mentor system but the Mentor system has definitely, imo, shown that not all of the community is as pleasant as they may seem.
WoW was always designed to deliberately foster division and animosity–through its mechanics, its fantasy, even its marketing and Blizzard’s interaction directly with fans. So… shifting to a game that instead encourages unity and kindness and isn’t structured around dehumanizing whoever picked red or blue is quite the breath of fresh air.
comm rewards are still a thing
mentor crowns continue to be a joke
yeah with how strict SE usually is I’m not sure how the Mentor system went so far south so fast.
edit: and I don’t think it’s ever gotten any better?
It’s pretty simple: the rules suggest that someone can be permanently removed from the Novice Network and have their crown stripped, however that doesn’t seem to be possible in practice, so it’s just an empty threat to make people behave. There’s someone that’s been joining Mateus NN for months and soliciting people for sex but he can’t be banned from entering NN because no one was SPECIFICALLY targeted with repeated solicitation, so the most the GM will tell you is to put the person on blacklist (which you can’t as a mentor because you need to be able to see the message to know to kick that person). Moderation for the NN is bizarrely bad.
Some bk crown mentors will be doing 4k dps in expert dungeons, telling people that class quests aren’t actually that important and that they can queue without soul crystals if they want. Having 1500 commendations isn’t an actual indicator of skill or helpfulness, or even general game knowledge. Half the crafting/gathering mentors got their crowns by leveling omni crafters through Ishgard Resto without knowing anything about crafting beyond copy pasting online macros.
tldr Mentors are often a joke because they’re actually no better than average players, and are in some cases worse than average. Couple this with NN often being used as a global chat and lacks anything it really needs (like pinned messages) and a lot of sprouts simply leave it because it’s less useful than just joining The Balance.
Mentor crowns are confirmed useless because I have one and I am the average player.
Average is a step up from some of the clown stuff I see some of my fellow mentors do lol
edit: shoutout to the THAUMATURGE mentor, I HATE you
i mean the factions are probably the biggest offender, especially when blizzard routinely pits them against each other on a player level. if your friend likes orcs and you like humans, get bent i guess because you literally can’t interact with each other outside of hostile/inconvenient situations (is shared tagging between factions too much to ask??) and blizzard legitimately sees nothing wrong with it while continuing to stoke the flames because it’s apparently part of their design to hate the other guys
i mean i’m sure people appreciate the brief Good Brain Chemical surge they get from seeing a commendation, but i meant something a little more tangible than that. i don’t imagine most friendly people exit a dungeon and then start kicking puppies
the mentor system is a disaster and in need of a serious rework. i’m definitely not gonna defend it, especially because it’s the banner that a lot of the absolute trashketballs of final fantasy congregate under
i legitimately hope they just rip that whole system out and start fresh or start moderating it because yikes
Lol, it’s worse than faction tagging. If person A is on Alliance in a party, it still won’t count for you, person B, playing Alliance because it becomes a party-only tag. What an awful mechanic. As if making dailies shorter would be some kind of difficulty decrease.
FFXIV’s LGBT+ playerbase really is just… shockingly massive. It easily overshadows CoH’s LGBT+ community, which was HUGE back in the day. Clearly more games are going to have to include catdads if they want the pink dollar.
never forget that yoshi-p, blessed creature that he is, said trans rights
Which is funny, because like, name 5 LGBT characters in FFXIV. So it’s not like we’re playing the game because it has tons of LGBT rep.
