The WorldSoul Saga Secret that Metzen Was Hiding

Okay… wow… this is a doozy. So, where to begin? Many people have been confused (myself included) over what exactly is happening in Midnight. It seemed so strange that we would do this large scale fight in the heart of Azeroth and then we would randomly do an entire expansion just in Quel’thalas, only to go to Ulduar in Northrend.

Here’s the twist. We’re not spending most of the expansion in Quel’thalas. There’s a detail Metzen is hiding for obvious reason. We don’t entirely win at the end of War Within.

We defend the WorldSoul from the “Forces of Darness” but this is just a ruse or an intentional misdirection for the “Forces of the Void” to close in on Azeroth and consume it in the Void. Many major areas of civilization in Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms will be revamped and Quel’thalas will be the last bastion of light left in Azeroth. This is where the Midnight expansion starts, when the world is metphorically at midnight with little light light remaining. There, the Forces of the Void are “intent (as in they have not yet succeeded) on snuffing out the Light of the Sunwell” and “plunging the world into darkness and fear.” However, we succeed at this starting point and throughout the expansion we “will not only help reunify the scattered Elven tribes of Azeroth, but we will make our stand with the Forces of the Light and banish the Shadow forever.” However, after this supposed victory there is a massive plot twist. We uncover a vast conspiracy, one that stretches throughout the history of the world, one which will challenge everything you think you know about the Titans, their intentions and the true Nature of Azeroth itself.

Here’s what gives away the secret. Metzen introduces every expansion by talking about how it starts . We start War Within by descending into the Heart of Azeroth. We start Midnight by fighting back the Void in Quel’thalas in the darkest hour. We start The Last Titan by uncovering a vast conspiracy that will challenge everything we think we know about the Titans, their intentions, and the true Nature of Azeroth itself.

After he tells us how they start, he only walks through what happens at the middle and vague end of War Within and Midnight.

In War Within, throughout it we’ll be exploring new subterrean kingdoms and engaging with ancient cultures like the Earthen and Nerubians. Then he ends War Within with the clever line “you will be called to do what you always, which is dispense indiscriminate justice upon all those who got it coming.” He’s not actually saying we’ll win. He’s only saying that we will be “called.” This makes sense given the War Within Cinematic Trailer. Thrall and Anduin both allude to being called. Thrall says at the beginning “Something, someone, is calling out from the Heart of Azeroth, like a voice from a dream.” Anduin asks at the end “Who is it, Thrall? Who is calling out to us?” I suspect Metzen used this clever word trick out of concern it might disincentivize people to play War Within.

In Midnight, throughout it we’ll “not only” help reunify the scattered Elves of Azeroth, but also “make our stand with the Forces of the Light.” This expansion will then end with us banishing the Shadow forever.

Finally, in the Last Titan, Metzen gave a fascinating transition. This time, he only talked about the beginning of the expansion. He said the following:

“Of course, Blizzcon, it is Azeroth, things may not go to plan . Things may just spiral wildly out of control. Leading us to the third part of the WorldSoul Saga. World of Warcraft, The Last Titan! In this chapter, you will be again returning to the old world, this time to the wintery lands of Northrend and there, at Ulduar, you will bear witness to the return of the Titans to Azeroth and there you will uncover a vast conspiracy, one that stretches throughout the history of the world, one which will challenge everything you think you know about the Titans , their intentions and the true Nature of Azeroth itself .”

Since we are uncovering this great truth at the beginning of the expansion, the full scope of the expansion is more hidden. This will be the last part of the WorldSoul Saga after all. They want to keep that all a secret. It’s unclear what that secret will be exactly, but I suspect the old theories about the evil of the Light will be true. This would tie in the Last Titan to Midnight, as this is a three expansion Saga. This would also be an insane twist, how we just banished the very forces of Darkness that were trying to stop the Titans.

This is insane and clears up all my confusion about the WorldSoul Saga and Midnight in particular!! Oh man, oh maaaaan, this is going to be incredible!! These three expansions will be like no other. A center of the world expansion. An expansion that revamps Azeroth with the Void. The expansion that uncovers the malicious nature about the Light! I cannot wait!

Please tell me what you all think though. I’m curious what the general thoughts are.

Lol, yeaaa, but it would appear that Blizzard will be using the time toggle feature or something to undo the effects.

I hope we do go to Quel’thalas though and instead of uniting the elves there is WAR
conflict, chaos, evolution, disparity

I do hope we go to Quel’thalas, but not that the entire expansion is there or that the other elven races randomly just settle in the Blood Elf lands. It wouldn’t make sense why the other elves have just settled there all of sudden in time for the Void Invasion.

I imagine Quel’thalas will act as the zones we explore in the first act of the expansion (season 1). Then we move into other zones. Who knows, maybe into the void itself.

I think it’s impossible to overlook the fact that Quel’thalas isn’t nearly large enough to support even a first season on its own. Even if they add that little northern coast bit and scale the whole thing up a fair bit, it’s still not there.

Quel’thalas will be a foothold while we explore something or somewhere else, imo. The only alternative is to radically scale up the region, blowing it wildly out of proportion with the rest of the Eastern Kingdoms, and I really just don’t see Blizzard doing that.

Same! I completely agree.

"With the announcement of the second and third expansions of the Worldsoul Saga, Midnight, and The Last Titan respectively, we are going back to old zones like Quel’Thalas and Northrend as they serve new modern story purposes. Hight gave a little more details on how these new zones are being implemented while also preserving their past usage in the game, “We’re giving our world builders some free rein to expand. Those areas may be geographically larger than they were. That’ll give them more opportunities to introduce some of the smaller points of interest where you’ll have a culture or a local tribe and give them the ability to have storylines that center on that. We don’t want people to feel like, oh, wait a minute, it’s that same place I know. It’s gonna feel like the same place; it’s just that it is literally going to be a little bit larger than what you’ve experienced. Flight being much more accessible, we need to have a larger landmass for people to be able to explore.

I get that, and I’m glad for it, but I honestly do not buy it.

Quel’thalas is not going to be as large as the Dragon Isles. It just isn’t. They’ll make it a bit bigger, sure, but there’s something else going on 100%.

I imagine they’ll blow Zul’Aman more into a bigger zone - Kith’ix is still under there, and I don’t believe he’s ever been KILLED killed.

Quel’Thalas has Eversong Woods, Ghostlands, Zul’Aman and Quel’Danas.

Dragon Isles has Waking Shore, Ohn’ahran Plains, Azure Span, Thaldraszus and Forbidding Reach.

Quel’Thalas needs one more Zone to be equal to Dragon Isles.

Incidentally we are uniting the Elf Tribes and the Quests do say that Amirdrassil will enter Reality so…

A large Magical Summer Forest Zone going with the large Magical Spring Forest Zone and the Haunted Magical Elf Forest Zone and the rugged Pine Forest with Quel’Danas being the 12.0.5 Zone(in the same way Forbidding Reach was 10.0.5 Zone) is a good bet.

Honestly that’s my main prediction.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we enter an entire Amani zone to the east of Eversong and the Ghostlands through the old gateway that used to be in Tor’Watha prior to Cataclysm, a gateway that still shows up on the map.

Considering what the Emerald Dream looked like what are the chances were are going to see huge Trees and huge Root Bridges in Eversong Woods and Ghostlands?

Most definitely. I mean they did that with the Twilight Highlands. In vanilla it did not exist beyond Grim Batol and that was slotted into the Wetlands zone. Same with Uldum over in Kalimdor.

Not to mention that prior to patch 2.3 (I believe), there were these giant Amani gates in Eversong Woods. EDIT: It was until Cata (4.0.3)

https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Tor%27Watha?file=Tor%27Watha.jpg

tbf The Forbidden Reach was mainly used as the starting zone for the Dracthyr and wasn’t accessible beyond that until patch 10.0.7.

Which is why I don’t expect Quel’Danas as a Zone after the opening until 12.0.5 or 12.0.7.

Beyond the points I brought up in the post, this idea that the expansion mainly takes place in Quel’thalas has another issue. Why and when would the other elves enter Quel’thalas? Also, why would the Blood Elves let them in?

We’re going to be fighting the Forces of the Void at the start of the expansion, so how do they get into Quel’thalas before this point? During War Within? None of that makes any sense.

I sort of wonder if we might deal with the Void Ethereal threat in .1 or .2 and take a trip to a chunk of K’aresh floating out in space like the Void Elf starting zone.

I agree. People keep linking the John Hight interview, but he only said the zone would be “a little bit larger” so we have more to explore with flying and more groups can be in the zone. They’re blowing it out of proportion.

I don’t think that these zones will be enough to sustain an expansion, and most people only want an updated new world for the graphics aspect of it.

Doing a revamp in Classic WoW doesn’t limit the artists to existing expectations, but is used as a tool to enhance the players overall experience as most of the time in classic is spent in the open world.

I think Blizzard is trying to keep players intrigued enough for the next 3-5 years of WoW and wrap up the Azeroth storyline so people can finally retire, lol.

But also, the World Soul Saga, I assume it’s more along the lines of being a Star Wars saga, where the Midnight expansion ends on a down note, where the players finally loose this battle vs the void and the Titans are called in to fix things.

I’d assume that these zone revamps will be .5/.7 content that lead into expansion pre-patches.
