The queues are exacerbated by the bots, though. I honestly didn’t expect Blizzard to just let thousands of bots roam free without even trying to stop them.
Don’t worry, theyre auto-banning tons of legitimate players in shoddy attempts to combat RMT
Ah yeah, good point. Gotta make sure they look like they’re being aggressive.
I don’t think it was done with malice at all, it’s actually for the best that these FULL servers have people transfer off to fill out low and medium pop servers.
They’re doing nothing about the thousands of bots, but drop layering before AQ even launches which inflates the price of black lotus due to a shrinking supply but increased demand which also leads to gold buying from said bots.
If Blizzard isn’t in the pocket of these sites I have no idea why they are not doing anything.
Maybe they plan on a ban wave before AQ40 to stop the bots from doing real damage to Scarab Lord grind.
No blizzard has spoken layering is a trash solution don’t want to wait the door is always open.
So instead, as per usual, they let the bots continue to damage the server’s economy and health overall.
IIRC, there was a big uprising here in these forums of people screaming “remove layering! waaa! waaa!” And so Blizzard removed it.
“You think you do, but you don’t.”
Isn’t new to Classic though, wasn’t this wide spread until TBC/Wrath though.
Idk why this isn’t blatantly obvious for you all, but they removed layering in prep for AQ. The AQ event would be vastly different and open to exploiting if it was layered. Servers with layers would bang the gong incredibly quickly and layer hopping would allow teams to completely bypass PvP
I appreciate these reasons, and for those people who want an unlayered classic experience I say those people should have servers that allow it. But for those of us who want to play on high population servers without queues, give us the choice to be on a layered servers, with all the disadvantages and drawbacks that come with it. I’m willing to have a shortened AQ grind, layering exploiting, less pvp, and more bot farming in order play on a high population server without queues. Please, give us this option. Layer Whitemane, and those who don’t like layering can have free transfers to unlayered servers.
It affects more than just the layered servers though. If you have designated layered servers, you’re going to suddenly be flooded with all the guilds trying to compete for world/US firsts because the layered servers are the ones that will be quickest to unlock. The ramifications reach further than just a single server in this case.
This does not seem like a significant impact. I don’t foresee a massive number of guilds leaving unlayered servers to layered servers just for the AQ event. You are suggesting that AQ would leave unlayered servers guild starved and layered servers crammed with new guilds paying for transfers to try to win the event. I’m sure some would transfer, but I imagine the vast majority of guilds will stay put. As a prevention method, Blizzard would need to have enough layered servers ready to meet demand. Given how many people loath layering and transferring guilds, I don’t see demand for layered servers out competing unlayered servers.
I strongly agree with you.
I think youre severely underestimating the lengths top guilds will go to to have a shot at a world or region first. Most absolutely WOULD transfer just to have a shot, and when guilds of that magnitude transfer theres always others that flock to follow them.
I’m not saying this would straight up kill tons of servers, but it would absolutely kill a few, and the layered servers would be impacted hard by the new strains on the economy and server quality.
The simple solution to this would be to have enough layered servers to meet demand. And if the demand for layered servers is as strong as you are suggesting, Blizzard should move quickly to provide it.
If there are enough layered servers to meet demand, this will negate any negative impacts you are suggesting. As far as servers dying when guilds leave, I consider that a separate topic as Blizzard seems content to allow many low population servers to exist that many players would already consider dead. I would advocate combining low population servers together, but again, that is a different topic.
I appreciate your reasoning and I think with enough layered and unlayered servers, people can make their own choices and enjoy their preference.
If they do something like this they would need to make it impossible to transfer characters from layered servers to unlayered servers, or else the botting problem would explode on the layered servers, and we’d see a flood of transfers with hundreds of valuable resources making their way to the unlayered servers and screwing up the economy
The simple solution to this would be to have enough layered servers to meet demand.
One. You only need ONE server per region that has permanent layers. Maybe one PvP and one PvE in each time zone, but no more than that.
Adjust the number of layers weekly to compensate for player activity.
Other servers will never have layers again. Don’t like it? Transfer to the layered server.
We want layering back to be able to play the game when ever we want like we are paying for.
