If I have the pieces I’d like to upgrade why am I not allowed to run mythic+ to upgrade them?
It seems like an odd design decision to lock the upgrading of the items on a weekly number.
I understand limiting how many you can earn with that cap increasing, but the cap of this is how many you can earn then you cannot earn anymore unless the new weeks starts just seems obtuse for no reason.
I’m sure the major argument against this will be “WELL PEOPLE COULD JUST UPGRADE TO THE MAX ILVL FOR GEAR QUICKLY!”
And my response is…“and?” What is wrong with that? If some tank ran DoS 55 times and finally got a scale, let them upgrade it? Why make them wait X number of weeks? They are going to be playing anyway to chase those optimal items in slots. What is the point of capping how much valor they can earn?
The move away from valor/justice in WotLK and rep tabards were both bad for the game. Future expansions should look at what these expansions (Wotlk and MOP) did well for gearing. Because our current gearing and rep systems do not feel good.
You cannot upgrade M+ loot to the max great vault ilvl. It is just below that ilvl. So there is still incentive to run M+ at a high level weekly for vault rewards.
You only get 278 from the vault. And the likelihood of that being the exact item you are chasing is very very low. Highest you can upgrade to with valor is 272*
Always a cap at season start to discourage maxing in a couple days, and invalidating other content. Same with conquest, raiding only drops so many pieces. Etc.
It also keeps us subbed longer.
The caps are dropped off both gearing options at season end.
If you run higher keys the drop is 9/12 I think? You can get almost fully maxed out by now through vault/drops/and properly spent VP btw.
I don’t like it either. First people say that you can be decked out in 272…but the player still needs to get the drops they want to upgrade…which is a feat in itself. Running m+ for specific items has you waste so much potential valor gain because you find yourself at cap after only a few runs

This is essentially my issue. I’ve run DoS more times than I can count for scale, still don’t have it. But at this point valor is capped so its only really giving me anima for running these dungeons over and over.
And Mythic+ is just a means to help people gear to be ready for Mythic Raiding. Mythic+ is an alternate progression to skip Normal and Heroic Raiding and to have a path towards Mythic Raiding. Mythic+ is not Mythic Raiding.
If you expect to be fully decked with ilevel 278s by just doing Mythic+, it wont happen. Mythic+ is really a helping tool and it is very generous.
Valor was added just to upgrade some few gear that are not being upgraded from the Vault due to its RNG nature. It is NOT DESIGNED TO UPGRADE ALL YOUR GEAR.
To upgrade M+ Dungeon gear into:
255 - Needs 600 Mythic Rating
259 - Needs 1000 M Rating
262 - Needs 1200 M Rating
265 - Needs 1400 M Rating
268 - Needs 1700 M Rating
272 - Needs 2000 M Rating
Heroic Raid Loots are 265s from many Bosses and 272s from last 3 Bosses
FYI
Edit: My bow is Upgrade level 11/12 at ilevel 268. To upgrade this with Valor, I would need 2000 M Rating to upgrade it into 12/12 ilevel 272.
BTW, if there’s no Valor cap (and no M Rating requirements), you could spam M+2’s to farm Valor to upgrade it to ilevel 272. You wont need M+15s. Sorry, no freebies. ROFL.
First, the ilvl gap between players is already out of control. Unlimited valor would magnify that issue. Second, if you could just boost your gear all the way to the maximum level, then there would not be anything to challenge you, and you’d stop playing after a short period. You have at least a year to play this game, so they need to gate you.
To make things more fair between casuals and no-lifers.
I don’t know about the valor/justice system in Wrath but I do know making rep earnable thru more activities than just burning out on repetitive dungeons runs was better for the game.
That is not to say that I would not like to see rep tabards back, but just for one or two reps while other ones are earned in a variety of other ways like quests, mob killings, gathering, ect.
There is no need to get angry and yell. This doesn’t change the gap between players. This also does not change the fact that we are 5 weeks into a patch and you already want to out-gear it. If you want gear higher than the cap, then do some content to get that gear. Icy Veins has a handy dandy spreadsheet for you.
This is the exact reason Blizzard should move away from borrowed/external player power sources.
