That is a really interesting thing to note about the MU Stonemaul Clan during Warcraft 3. Makes me wonder what else of interest is shown during that part of the game.
I do have to wonder how the class selection would have worked for playable Horde Ogres if they were made playable during Vanilla or Cataclysm. I feel like they might have a more limited class selection, since that was a design philosophy during the time for MMORPG’s in general, and I don’t know whether they would be able to be Priests or not.
Maybe if they came out in Vanilla, we’d see more combos like Priests open up during Cataclysm. Hard to really say, even though there is evidence of Ogre Priests in general. Then again, we had some races like Trolls being able to be Priests, so it isn’t like it would be completely out of the question to see Ogre Priests back then.
As for how the MU Stonemaul Clan is represented in WoW, it is possible it was kept basic since they were put in as a NPC race at the time just to keep things simple, even if there may have been considerations for making them playable in the future. I’m sure there are examples of NPC races that, when made playable, got some fleshing out with class options that wasn’t present before in their NPC form. I’d like to think that if the MU Stonemaul Clan became playable, we’d see such fleshing out with them and having NPC’s of different classes in their racial hub and other questing areas they’d show up as.
Having the MU Stonemaul Clan be unique compared to other Ogre clans would also be a good reason to have them become part of if not the main playable Horde Ogre fashion. I’m sure they would be really interesting if they got to be fleshed out more and see some cool features of the clan out of it.

Funnily enough, despite all the work I’ve done to support playable Horde Ogres, it is all in hopes of being able to make the one Ogre Warrior character I want to make. He may be just the one, but he is special enough to me to be worth all the effort to support playable Horde Ogres if I ever get to make him in WoW someday.

For your Ogre character, would you make a female Ogre? If so, can I get your opinion on how you’d like female Ogres to look like, please?
One of the big things about playable Ogres is female Ogres and how they would look. I think it’s important for anyone wanting to make female Ogre characters to give their input on how they would want them to look along with customization options and such.
I still stand by the idea that they shouldn’t be Barbie dolls and should look gruff and savage like how male Ogres can look. I think it would do a lot for the game in terms of playable race variety and also world-building for having potentially cool female Ogre NPC’s.
Hopefully whatever is done with female Ogres, they’re done in a way that fits and shows what makes an Ogre an Ogre with them.

I think I’ve posted this here before, but I think using the Blood Troll Mothers as somewhat of a base could work well for female Ogres.
I made a mockup attempting to convert a Blood Troll Mother into a female Ogre, and I think it captures a decent picture of them.

I’d like this race playable too

That’s a really cool mockup.

I like the idea of mok’nathol, but I’d rather them be their own race.

I was thinking some about Tharg making a sacrifice, and if such a thing were to ever happen, I think the best scenario for it would be against an evil dragon of some kind, likely an offspring of Onyxia.
Given the history of the MU Stonemaul Clan and how they lost their home to the evil Black Dragonflight members and minions, along with Tharg losing his wife in said attacks, it would be rather fitting for him to make the ultimate sacrifice taking out one of Onxia’s offspring whose egg managed to escape and be raised since Cataclysm. It would be a meaningful sacrifice to save the MU Stonemaul Clan once more and in a sense, avenge Tharg’s wife and the other MU Stonemaul Clan members who fell in battle. In such a case, I imagine Tharg would name Crol’ka as the new leader before he passes on.
While the mention of Tharg’s wounds and age could allude to him not being leader for long, he could very well still become a long-term leader. For me, it’d be good to see him be able to be a good leader and see his clan flourish while getting some much needed revenge against some evil dragons. But if it isn’t meant to be, at least there is a good story to make way for Crol’ka as the new leader.
In a way, it would be great to show that Ogres can have a lot of depth and personality than just “Me smash!” That is part of their personality, sure, but there can be really interesting story potential for them.

I just came up with a new Ogre RP character a few days ago. Ogre Warlock, naturally born two-headed Mage from the Gordunni clan. He had such a lust for power he ended up joining the Shadow Council and helped in corrupting the Orcs and trying to create more two-headed Ogres.
Really excited to play him and see how he fleshes out.

It sounds like he would work really well if the idea of the Gordunni Clan becoming one of the playable Horde Ogre factions, coming from a trusted MU Stonemaul Clan member becoming their Gordok King, gets implemented.
The Ogre character I plan on making, if we ever get playable Horde Ogres, is a male Fury Warrior with one head of the MU Stonemaul Clan. His backstory is working to give his clan a good name while being able to bash baddies for the Horde and also get shinies. Gotta make a living somehow, after all.
As I said, he has a lot of meaning to me since he is based on my Ogre Berserker character from Everquest 1 and also Everquest 2, and was one of my favorite characters to play as and even do light RP with. My hope is that I’ll be able to recreate him in WoW someday as an actual Ogre character, which is a reason I keep at it with the playable Horde Ogre support.

So we are quite a ways to Dragonflight’s beta, let alone whenever it does release, but as NDA’s get lifted and we see stuff shared in videos and datamining, I’ll be sure to keep an eye out on anything Horde Ogre related.
As I’ve mentioned before, there is some interest with the whole expansion’s theme to the MU Stonemaul Clan at least. It isn’t a guarantee, and they could very well be forgotten yet again (Sigh…), but there could be a chance to see them appear somewhere and do something.
9.2.5 info I would hope would be out sooner than later, which I’ll look at and report as I normally would for patches in general, but given the history the MU Stonemaul Clan has with dragons, it is something I’ll be paying close attention to as we get to its releases and patches within it to report anything of interest here.
I mostly only really see involvement if some of the minions of the evil Black Dragonflight or some of Onxia’s offspring managed to survive and appear again, I assume as villains. It’d be a good reason for the MU Stonemaul Clan at least to come back into the picture and get some revenge, which would be great to see.
In terms of playable races, I believe Blizzard isn’t looking at allied races during Dragonflight. It could always change, but we’ll have to see what direction the expansion goes. We could also see some new races pop up as early access incentives for preorders of the expansion after Dragonflight, as well as whatever that expansion’s features would be. I suppose anything is possible in the grand scheme of things.
Regardless of what does or doesn’t happen, I’ll still march on for playable Horde Ogre support as best as I can. Ogre fans have been at it in general since Vanilla, but hopefully, we’ll see playable Horde Ogres become a reality sooner than later.

Been thinking about my, now three, Ogres that I plan to make.
Ogre Monk, of the MU Stonemaul Clan, whose first goal will be exalting the Ogri’la folks, but will be searching for peace and a good way to live. Hes going to be based on Rikishi Sumo Wrestlers in concept, and believe that his people can be much more than they are.
Ogre Death Knight, found by the Lich King frozen in the glacier of Icecrowns coast, He is two-headed (if an option) and was part of the First and Second Wars but has no memory of how he ended up leaving from Gul’dan’s forces on their way to the Tomb of Sargeras and ended up in Northrend. He was alone with no ship in the ice. Turned into a death knight by the Lich King Arthas, and remained with him after the Ebon Blade broke free, only joining them when Bolvar took the place of the Lich King.
And now an Ogre Priest, making her a one headed ogre I think, though I’m still considering a two headed one, part of the Stonemaul Clan MU side she was one of several priests around while the whole Daelin Proudmoore thing was going on and helped the Horde during that event. Shes been hanging around otherwise and feels her people need to reach out more to the Horde and step up and become more a part of it than not. Shes begun to dabble in Shadow magics but retains her “Light” powers as a Dsicipline Priest. (I don’t have many and I’m always trying to get better at using them.)
Heres hoping Ogres come soon!

Another thing to consider for your Ogre characters would be what their primary spec would be for their classes.
Mine would go Fury Warrior with the Ogre logic of “two weapons = twice da bashin’!” Moreso since they can dual-wield two-handed weapons. Something about it just seems really fitting for my Ogre’s personality.
And since you mentioned wanting to make one a female Ogre character, I have to ask: How would you like female Ogres to look and what customization options would you like for them?

The priest I’m going to go disc because… Well… I want the “heal” option but still with some shadow powers which just feels oddly right with ogres to me.
And the DK is gonna be unholy for the necromancer feel, unless they add necromancer, in which case they’ll be that and I’ll cross that bridge then.
The monk I’m actually not sure yet. Monk doesn’t really translate to sumo well, but I can see arguments for all three given his goals and the setup… So still thinking that over.
This is my favorite general rendition for them.

It just feels so ogre to me.
Far as customizations I’d imagine pretty standard stuff overall. Preferably options for two heads.

Seeing as we do have Ogre Necromancers in-game (in the new starting area) and assuming Necromancers would be their own class, I could see an argument being made for playable Ogre Necromancers. I don’t know if the Horde Ogre clans would have much thought on them among their ranks, though seeing as people walk around with powerful demons and Death Knights have undead minions of different types, I don’t know if it would really shock them to see Necromancers with undead minions as well.
Of course, if Necromancers become a Warlock skin, playable Ogres should be able to become Warlocks, so that would also work just fine. I’m fine with Necromancers being playable in either fashion, myself.
Fun fact: Ogres in Everquest Online Adventures (released in its only expansion) could be Necromancers. They could also be them in Everquest 2, though that game has all classes available to all races. They couldn’t be them in Everquest 1.
As for Death Knights in general, I think if they add more races to the class (and they should), it’s likely Ogres would just end up in the newer DK starting area. Just seems the simplest thing to do with a few minor edits to the area. Hopefully, Death Knights will be an option for future playable races!
And I still need to work on that sumo post sometime. I think adding in sumo stuff in general with Ogres is a really great opportunity to have something fun and awesome in the game.
