The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! 🐊

Looks like our Saurok ambassador is meeting with the Dracthyr and Ebonhorn to greet new members of the Horde and to learn about the Dragon Isles. Sounds like an opportunity to do some new hunting and try out new foods!

The Saurok Ambassador was invited to watch the Dracthyr train. Very fierce warriors, indeed! Could be useful to make friends with these new members of the Horde, as you never know when the ability to breathe fire could come in handy for emergency BBQ sessions!

Been awhile since I took some screenshots. I should really get back into it again. I’ll have to find some new places to do them, including on the Dragon Isles! :lizard:

100% would rather have played this

than dracthyr.

Wait, correction, I would have played these, I’m not playing dracthyr.

Got another art piece from DeviantArt to share. This one is of a frilled Lizardman from the Warhammer Fantasy series. It was created by…someone with a slightly inappropriate sounding name, so I can’t repeat it here unfortunately. It was uploaded to the website on Dec. 24th, 2013.

“Warhammer fantasy: Lizardmen” on DeviantArt

This is a good example of seeing a Lizardman with a frill. As you know, some Saurok do have frills, so they would definitely be a customization option. This helps to imagine how they could look with a frill and the helm transmog hidden.

I could even see some animations with frilled Saurok players in combat expanding it outward, which is something some RL lizards do. I can’t imagine how it would work with helmets, but it could work for some of them I suppose. Still a neat idea for players wanting their Saurok to have frill customizations, though.

I’ll continue to keep an eye out for general Lizardmen art pieces to share for playable Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

So you probably can tell that the last several times I’ve been looking for inside information on if playable Horde Saurok are being developed, I’ve been given what seems like questionable “evidence” that leaves me confused. Bamboozled, you might say.

Well this time, I decided to go to a more trusted source to infiltrate Blizzard HQ and get some sort of information on playable Horde Saurok. I went straight to Gazlowe, the current leader of the Horde goblin faction. Seeing as he is in his position partially thanks to me helping to give Gallywix the boot, I figured he owes me one, and surely he has connections!

Well as luck would have it, Gazlowe actually delivered! He got me the inside information deep from within the Blizzard vaults of plans to “unlock my Lizard people.” I’m sure he knew what I meant, but anyway, not only do I have video evidence, this time I have a screenshot to share this time of my very own Saurok character!

Anyway, this is the video Gazlowe gave me on how to unlock Saurok for the Horde:

It involves you having to chase down a Saurok that turns on you after helping them, but you have to guide them to redemption instead of outright beating them up, which is a common theme Blizzard has been doing lately. It happens after you do a quest to transport some quest items in your starship, having to do some space battles which isn’t too diff…what do you mean what starship? You know what I’m talking about! Did you not see crazed Vulpera zipping around Orgrimmar crashing into stuff?! It’s fairly easy to do the quest to get it, you just need to look for where it is! It’s in the most obvious place in the game!

Anyway, you’ll see the Saurok has some pretty stylish jump animations, which I’m guessing is a new mechanic Blizzard is testing out, likely for raid purposes. It’s a bit of a tough battle, but nowhere near as annoying as the fights in the Mag’har Orc unlock questline. Hopefully Saurok will have that jump to it.

Once you beat the Saurok and have him turn good, you just have to use an in-game currency to unlock playable Saurok! Guessing this is a new way to get allied races unlocked, and hopefully it won’t be too hard to get it…or is what will actually be required when this quest goes live. Grinding out currencies can really leave players feeling spent, ya know?

Anyway, as I said, I have proof of this working because I totally did the questline! Here it is, my Horde Saurok character:

As you can see, transmogs are a bit buggy and not showing, but this is is likely an alpha thing.

…whats with that look? Don’t believe me? Fine, don’t take my word for it. Check out here for some more Saurok screenshots by another player with some working transmogs and something else which I think is the race Alliance is getting…whatever it is:

See? Told ya! Playable Horde Saurok confirmed! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to enjoy my new Saurok character on his epic journey for the Horde! But before I do, one last important detail I forgot to mention:

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY! :lizard:

The new Trading Post items for April 2023 are now available:

Completing enough tasks will reward these 1-handed sword transmogs:

Nothing Saurok related this month. I suppose the Runelord transmog would look neat for Saurok Warlocks and the dragon mount would look great for some Saurok scale colors.

Come to think of it, it could be possible for some Saurok Tribes to ride those dragons in general as mounts. Maybe not as a racial mount, but still something to think about…

Unfortunately, I am 25 tender short of getting the item I wanted after getting the item I froze before. Luckily I can freeze the new item, though I can’t help but worry that maybe I should be saving up some tenders in case there are multiple items of interest to get and report on in a month. Then again, if I saved up all my tenders, maybe nothing would come to it. Wouldn’t surprise me either way.

I’ll keep an eye out on Trading Post rewards in case something Saurok related pops up on there someday. You never know! :lizard:

Did you see that? This crocodile just heard it was the start of a new month and is excited to tell people to do their monthly in-game feedback to suggest races they want playable! Look! That human saw how convincing the crocodile is and went to do just that! That crocodile is gonna have a busy day!

With the beginning of each month, I make in-game suggestions for each race I want to see playable along with a mention of their respective megathreads on these forums. While it is far from a guarantee of seeing our dreams come true, I do think every little bit helps, and doing it monthly I feel is reasonable and not that intrusive or annoying.

If you’re interested in doing the same for races you want to see playable, I made a little guide on how to do so in-game here:

So help keep that crocodile happy and get your monthly in-game suggestions in ASAP! :lizard:

I have been thinking some on potential “Exploring Azeroth” books after Exploring Azeroth: Pandaria comes out later this year and seeing if any other places could have some Saurok related entries in them. Not a whole lot else I can think of, unfortunately.

The only other area so far I can think of is if they did an Exploring Azeroth book on Kul Tiras and Zandalar. In which case, the only thing of interest could be anything on the Bilge Rats pirate crew, seeing as they have Saurok amongst their ranks with the Brinescale Tribe.

I can’t imagine there being much on that, however. Likely, it’d be a short thing of how the Bilge Rats are up to no good and causing trouble in places. I don’t really expect an in-depth look at them or anything specific on the Brinescale Tribe. I’d be curious if anything would be mentioned on how they joined the Bilge Rats, but that would be a long shot I’d say.

If an Exploring Azeroth book of those areas ever pop up, I’ll be sure to get them and report back on here with whatever info would be in it. In the meantime, I’m still very excited for Exploring Azeroth: Pandaria, which is still tentatively planned to come out October 17th this year. Hopefully there will be some interesting Saurok stuff to report on from it! :lizard:

Alligators and crocodiles are very agile! Here is a video showing off more galloping crocodiles:

They can even climb trees and fences:

Not to mention being really strong:

Imagine Saurok riding on some galloping crocolisks into battle and chasing people up trees and walls. I’m sure their enemies would be very scared at seeing that run towards them and chasing them up trees and such, gnashing teeth and all!

Maybe crocolisks could be a contender for a Saurok mount. There are crocolisks on Pandaria, afterall. :lizard:

Apparently a few months ago, some new Seraphon models from Age of Sigmar were revealed. The first video is an official trailer for them while the second video covers over the new models in a little bit more detail:

Sharing these for the usual playable Horde Saurok idea inspiration, in which Seraphon/Lizardmen are a really good source of inspiration for that. Also hoping to be able to build my own Seraphon/Lizardmen army someday, which is one of the few life goals I have I want to accomplish, so it is kinda exciting in general to see some new models come out. :lizard:

Thanks to YouTube recommendations, I came across a video showing both the painting of classic Lizardmen models from Warhammer Fantasy and building some Lizardmen-related terrain and structures. It can kinda be used as a guide for those interested in doing something similar.

Video is below:

Sharing this for the usual playable Horde Saurok idea inspiration, in particular for the terrain building which could help inspire Saurok architecture ideas.

Still looking forward to someday building my Lizardmen/Seraphon army someday…and also my Saurok army if they ever become playable and we get more character slots! :lizard:

Yes, please.

Although I’d prefer to have playable naga first, I think because they’re bipedal, we’re more likely to get saurok.

Playable Naga would be neat. I wanted them when I first starting playing WoW during BC and still kinda do. I remember when Chris Metzen worked at Blizzard during that time, he had mentioned wanting to see playable Naga and Ogres someday. Maybe we still could since he recently came back to Blizzard, albeit in a smaller role.

I recall seeing this playable Naga concept on MMO-Champion’s forums some time ago that looked really neat:

I do think there is a decent chance for them, since a two-legged form can be made for mounts like in the above link. It has been showed to be possible for Naga to switch between forms in-game, as I think it was Azshara who did that in Legion briefly. Tail armor would just be made for boot graphics so that isn’t an issue either.

And given that storylines and revamps can be made to fit the situation, I don’t really see any major issues with them being playable provided that it wouldn’t stop Ankoan and Kelfin from being playable as well, depending on what faction would get Naga. So I do see playable Naga as a possibility.

There is plenty of room on that character creation screen for both Naga and Saurok, and it’d be cool to see them both playable. :mermaid: :lizard:

Apparently some other Seraphon (Lizardmen) models for Age of Sigmar got announced in addition to some shown in the videos I linked a few posts up. This article shows off several images of them:

Of note are more mounts that Seraphon ride, which seem to be newer ones said to be bigger than previous mounts. Saurok riding similar mounts would be very fitting, especially if they came with Devilsaur mounts as their racial mount which is an idea talked about here before.

There are also some neat scale colors that some of the models in the images have. Something I should look into are custom painted Seraphon/Lizardmen models to share some neat scale color ideas for playable Saurok.

There is even a new Battletome book being made for them. It is something I’ll have to pick up someday, both for playable Saurok idea inspiration and also for my eventual Seraphon army building. I still need to look over the current Battletome as well which I got some time ago.

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more Seraphon/Lizardmen stuff in the future for playable Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

I think naga would be a mainline race opposed to an allied race like saberon, san’layn or saurok.

I would definitely add naga to the horde with ethereals being their alliance counterpart.

Allied races like saurok don’t need a specific expansion as they would be a great source of content between huge raid patches.

I suppose the question is what the difference is between Core and Allied races these days, given the whole change on the character creation screen.

I think nowadays, Allied Races would just be races that you have to sweet talk into joining your faction, whereas Core Races just join you without having to do anything unlock them, aside from purchasing their related expansions. Honestly, I do think any race could be either Allied or Core races, depending on how Blizzard wanted to handle their story.

I’m assuming that Core Races would have more development time, being developed during a current expansion to be released later. Allied races might not have as much, depending on an expansion’s plans and whether there would be multiple allied races added during it or so.

Naga I could see being a Core Race since some work would have to go into making them playable. I suspect the more likely thing with them would be to give them an alternate form, like with Worgen and Dracthyr, to be able to ride mounts. It’s not impossible to have them ride mounts in Naga form, but I’d guess it would save resources this way. They would also need a storyline where they’re accepted pretty quickly by whatever faction they would join.

As I said, a lot of races could go either way. Saurok could be an allied race that joins in a middle of an expansion, but they also could be a Core Race if they might play a bigger expansion role. Saberon and Arakkoa could also become Core Races if we had a Lightbound centered expansion as well and be released near the beginning of it, with pre-patch events to go with it. A lot really depends on whatever expansion new playable races would debut in and that expansion’s storyline.

I do think the Allied Race system will still be used in the future, though as cool as it would be, I don’t really see us getting 10+ playable races in a single expansion again. For me, I can’t really say what races would be either Core or Allied, though I do think some would fare better being treated as a Core Race instead.

As for Saurok, I’m fine with them for either Core or Allied races. Can’t say which would be better, but as long as they’d be on the Horde side of that character creation screen, I’d be happy! Though I think they would get better treatment as a Core race, but that is just my own personal opinion. :lizard:

Saurok is Right! Give the Alliance MURLOCKS! :dracthyr_yay_animated: :dracthyr_nod:

I think armor would easily work on naga, as seen by that flamewaker boss in the firelands–Shannox.

The leggings just go around the body with an opening in the middle. While flamewakers aren’t truly naga, it’s the same model.
